Saw on NFL Live today that Lamar miller has been working with Frank Gore this offseason. Now, I know the gang from the U are close and many of both current and past Canes work in Coral Gables during the offseason, but this HAS to be a good thing for us. Also, I didn't realize Miller was as big as he seems to be, at least sitting next to Gore on tv. But mentoring by a Frank Gore type back is ok with me...
"During this off-season, Gore has taken the mentorship role to Miller as he tries to be the featured back for the Dolphins. Since RB Reggie Bush (Detroit Lions) left via free-agency, Gore reached out to Miller to see if he was interested in becoming workout partners, as Gore said: I known Lamar since he was a kid…I didn’t want to bother with him his rookie year, because I know he was gonna have a lot on his shoulders, learning a lot about the NFL…I know coming into his second year, when they didn’t sign Reggie, you know he got the chance to be the man, and I just wanted to get with him and work on some things, and tell him what he has to do, to be successful in this league. When asked on what he (Miller) has taken away from Gore’s work ethic, Miller said: He been a great mentor to me. I’ve been training with him since February. Letting him just tell me some of the things that he learned from his first year to now. It helped me out a lot so I can just take my game to the next level."

Best part about all of this, is even if we fall short this season.....our team is so ****ing young, we can/will be good for a LONG TIME!!!
I like that it's young but that we're not relying on a bunch of rookie starters. IMO this is what building a team for long term success should look like.
Exactly! Guys like Pouncey, Tannehill, Clemmons, Jones, Misi, Ellerbe, Hartline, Gibson etc are still very young, or "nfl" young....and will be here for awhile.
I've been thinking that way too, but if you look at the stats, he didn't have a bad year...his downfall was inability to create turnovers, but matrix-wise, his stats were better than middle of the pack, from what I've seen...?? He's still growing tho, which makes the prognosis perhaps look better than the numbers...
Being here for awhile. I don't think it's a coincidence that they only offered him a 1 year deal. I don't think they're sold on him. IMO he needs to take that next step and never has despite great athleticism. I think he lacks the instincts to be a playmaker (other than causing fumbles, that's the one play he can make).
I don't believe in PFF's judgment calls, if that's what you're looking at. IMO he was placed in a defense where if he had the instincts he could have been every bit the playmaker that Reshad Jones was last year. In fact, I think Clemons is probably a better athlete than Jones. Clemons just always seems to react a beat later. He makes the tackle so he's not a liability he rarely gets there in time to make a game changing play.
I agree, and I think that's why I've been hesitant to get excited about him, but while he hasn't been an Ed Reed, he has been better than what most of us give him credit for...at any rate, you're right also that this reason is exactly why the offer was a one year deal to "see" what will happen with his development... The one thing that concerns me about this team right now, is that we have quite a few "guys ready to break out", like Clemons. If a few of them do, we could be talking a different tune next offseason, if not, it's back to square one with quite a few positions. Think of where we are...Grimes, Keller, Clemons, Clabo, Martin, Misi (to a certain extent), Odrick, Egnew, Miller, Jerry, Richard Marshall, Tannyhill, Randall, Olivier...Of which 10 are pretty much locked in as starters, and this does not include this year's rookies and UDFAs and a few 'project' youngsters as well...It's kinda scary...
