Love this Rishard Matthews talk, it's big for us if this kid can be our Hines ward..

I'm not on the Binns hype, I think Matthews keeps him from seeing the field.

Did not see this one coming, but for our fourth corner to be improving its a good sign..kid plays the run well.

Hmm, I still prefer Binns and am down on Carrol, Nolan has played a lot and really has not done a lot with it.

Totally agree on Carroll. He seems mechanical to me. Poor hands and ball skills, marginal instincts and reactions. If he makes it over Patterson or Marshall it is 100% due to contract size IMO, which would suck. So he looks better, according to Congemi, in the flag football of OTAs and mini camps. Whoop te do. Let's see how he does when the real football starts.

He's not hot garbage, he just doesn't make plays, he is what used to be called "a track guy playing football"

Why can't he still be called that? He is much more athletic than he is anything else.

B/c I'm not sure if he has run track.

Sort of player who will be right there, then cannot swivel his head or get his hands up in time to break up the play or make the Int.

    TBH, prefer Jimmy Wilson

This kid Matthews is a good kid...He takes his craft seriously in the offseason at an early age, he's smart, from watching his personality he's got the right makeup I believe, the dude is built like an absolute stud muffin, I mean really good build Padre, with that body he can take a pounding, he can drag defenders, he can box out, strong hands, coachable as hell, I think we're looking at a solid player and contributer, no problem with him being one of our top 3 guys on the field..I don't see Binns hanging.

I feel like Congemi might have been onto Rishard Matthews last year at this time too. Does anyone else remember that?

I like Carroll more than most. As others have noted, he generally does a good job of staying with his guy, he just hasn't yet put it together to make the play on the ball. Some might say that is either there or not, but I believe there's a chance that the light goes on in that respect and think he can become a very good corner. Even if it doesn't, just staying with your guy is valuable because the QB usually won't throw there. Carroll has solid metrics in terms of targets per cover snap and yards allowed per cover snap. He's certainly a good enough player to be a 3rd or 4th CB.

Love the Rishard Matthews talk. Would love to see him develop. He looked pretty talented in college from what I saw. Would be great for us to find a quality #4 WR.

Problem is Fineas, he is just vulnerable to that sort of throw the ball to the covered guy and he'll make a play, and fades, b/c he just does not get his head around quickly enough.

Do agree, he is a good 4th Cb type, who can spot start at the wide side and do okay for stretches, but his light really needs to come on.

With his body and strength is how this kid gets big plays, he has this ability to make the corner miss on the initial tackle that is consistent, he's just not easy for a corner to tackle, defenders bounce off his legs, uses his stiff arm nicely, and we should not forget, this kid can return punts, I'm suprised he isn't getting looks there.

Sure, he has weaknesses. All players do. The bottom line is that he really doesn't get picked on a lot due to that vulnerability (hence the solid targets per cover snap numbers) and doesn't give up a huge number of yards when he is in the game. If the light does come on, he could really be very good.

    All I can say is:

Camp cannot get here fast enough. No offense to anyone, but I am so over the fluff pieces at this stage of my football life. Lets see how we do in a couple of weeks.

Roger that, though I had hoped to hear more about Marcus Thigpen, and it's good Lee Robinson did some things.

Camp is where it is, how many Bumphis's have we seen through the years?

Put on the pads, get out in the heat, you see what's what.

When it comes to instincts, reactions and ball skills, how much more can we expect the light to ever come on? It seems to me those things are something a player either innately has, or he doesn't.

Like my old high school vice principal used to tell me, "If, ifs and buts, were candies and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas". :)

Must be age. I remember when I used to eat this crap up. Every little tidbit meant everything. Now? Meh. I might care more once the Cup Final is over.

I think most have been disappointed with the progress of young players like Carroll and Wilson ... but this coaching staff facilitated some noticeable improvements with Clemons and Jones last year ... so, we'll see how camp shakes out and truly see where guys like Carroll and Wilson stand against up and comers like McCray and project Presley - not to mention the new additions of Davis, Taylor and Kovacs ...

Believe we will have a very strong secondary over the next few years ... and look forward to seeing how it plays out and if Patterson, Marshall, Carroll and Wilson stick (I don't see more than 2 from this group still being on the roster post camp - with Marshall being the closest thing to a lock right now).

If anyone is disappointed with Misi I don't really know what to tell them. If they're looking for stats, they're looking at the wrong position. He still managed some high statistical games regardless.

Nah, suspect Dion Jordan (notice "praying mantis" is not longer used) will be a situational rusher but will play a lot, look at it this way, if he replaces Misi he and Wake will be on the same side of the field which imo, is not a part of the plan.

Maybe when he comes into games, everyone shifts Wheeler to Sam and Jordan to Will or DE or a 5-2 look etc

I can honestly say I don't know where I want to use Jordan's skillset the most in the future..and what Coyle is going to do with it, and what position would his skillset be the most effective at playing.??

I know that in his mind, he's stoked about playing defensive end and rushing the passer, I think that comes from the dolphins brass telling him that's what they want from him??

the knock on Misi was that he was supposed to be that complement to Wake in passing situations ... which has and will not happen.

anything beyond that ... Misi is an above average player - and someone you'd like to keep on your roster.

I actually think it would be better o have Ellerby at Sam, isn't that what he did in Baltimore?

Also, this is why in so excited about our defense this year. Between Wake, Odrick, Vernon, Misi and Jordan, the combos we can use are open to almost anything. 2 fast lbs and dbs that have the quicks to jump routes and convert turnovers. All while good ole Chris Clemons will hold the back end
