You can't say Eddie Lacy has proven nothing. That is the problem. He has no NFL stats, but he has had quite a football career. And the original question asks whether if I'd feel better about the position. We have Miller, who has shown flashes. We have another rookie. And we have a 3rd year lame-duck. Swap Gillislee and Thomas(and no offense to Gillislee) for Eddie Lacy, and yes..I feel a whole lot better about things. Who is talking about Miller going anywhere? Green Bay drafted, arguably, the best TWO backs in this class. And while I spent the most time on Miller, because we are all banking a lot on him..I went over all our backs in explaining why I would have been happy to draft Eddie Lacy. Its not so much about Miller, as it is everyone else. We need more than just one guy.
Lamar Miller has proven to this point is that he can't beat out Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas for touches.
I think you also have to look at how the draft fell and ask yourself, if we took Lacy in the second, we'd have missed on Taylor. Is having a more solid looking RB stable more important than a #2 or #3 CB ?? I don't think so personally. If we'd have taken Lacy in round two, the next best option at CB would have been Ryan Logan or Tayvon Webster (available to us when we next picked). Would we be better off with Davis and Logan/Webster than Taylor ?? They felt good enough about Miller, Thomas and Gray that they went after a position that had more need...it's a simple choice. Lacy has some issues and wasn't considered a lock-down stud (that's why he was taken late in the second instead of earlier). Nothing said here makes me feel any worse about Miller, Thomas and Gillislee at this point considering the alternative would have been to have less at CB...
True. But not because of lack of talent carrying the football. It was due to his ineptness in other aspects of the game. Those can be corrected with good coaching and hard work.
Of course if Lacy is on this team your more comfortable at the position.... great fit ( GB took him ) and compliment to Miller's skills.... Larry's right that it wasn't the way to go. My answer is : I'd feel more sure about the position , but i wouldnt be happy with the pick, hence less sure about the teams direction.
I think we are sure enough that Daniel Thomas is toast .... Miller, Gray and Gillislee will be pretty good. I am really excited about Gray .... I think he will push Miller by the end of the year. My only concern is blocking ... we have 3 pretty good horses right now.
Maybe you haven't seen the roster lately but Lamar Miller is on it Reggie is not and do you really think Daniel Thomas will be getting more touches than him?
From what I hear Miller had trouble picking up the pass protections, that will have any RB on any team cemented to the bench.
I don't really buy into that. I could see the coaching staff bringing LM along slowly. No need to rush him into the lineup knowing that 2012 was a rebuilding year. Why not use up RB and DT and save the wear on LM? I just don't see the need to play LM anymore last year when this year is the goal.
