Apologies if this is a re-post.

I thought he had some interesting things to say:

    My thoughts:

    - Henning will be in the booth, relaying the calls through David Lee on the sideline. i like that it keeps Lee involved with the process, and available to work with his puil on gameday. No one on the coaching staff will know our staring QB as well as David Lee, so he is the ideal man to have in the Qbs ear, and on the sideline on game day. This would benefit Beck, especially, as the two of them have done a lot of work on his mechanics. Lee seems to be a great QB coach and mentor.

    - Pasqualoni will be on the sideline. Interesting that the OC is in the booth but the DC is on the sideline. I wonder if that is based on their own personal preference, Sparano's, or both?

    - Sparano singled john beck out as quite improved. He noted that studying the film of last year, Beck had a bit of a sidearm release, which has improved from working with David Lee. Sparano sounds pretty happy with Beck. I keep hearing him talking about him, but rarely do I hear him bring up Chad Henne or McCown. I am *hoping* that means Sparano likes the Beck enough to lean towards him as a starter, barring any poor performances by Beck that would lose him the job.

    My conclusion?

David Lee was obviously a key pick-up for us this offseason.

    Your thoughts?

Considering he was hired before the coaches were, I'd agree. Parcells must have decided that Beck was worth salvaging...worth enough to bring in Lee specifically to work with him during the offseason. While we all look at QB as the premier battle in camp, what with the media coverage it naturally will/does get, it really is shaping up to be the most interesting battle in camp...

Personally, the progress of this team will be dictated by the OL more than QB, but I just love watching the trenches...so I may be biased...at any rate, as much as I am looking forward to the QB controversies during camp, it is certainly getting old...we've been watching that one position since Jesus was a corporal...One of these guys needs to step up and take the position even though my personal fav would be Beck...

The tough thing to call is exactly what the current coaches think of Beck. I know I've read several articles on the web, and comments on this site, that have all but written off John Beck as our starter simply due to the fact that he was drafted by last year's regime.

I'd be really curious to see if that theory actually holds any water. It seems to me that you would want to give a legitimate shot at a starting role to any player who could contribute positively to your team, regardless of who drafted or signed him. I hope Sparano and Co. agree with me.

I'd hate to see Henne thrust into a starting role he didn't earn, and Beck to become a successful QB for another team because of a GM or coach's ego.

The thing with media is, they have to write something. And what's the easiest thing to write? That new coaches, ESPECIALLY parcells, will start "Their" guys.

Just because of experience, I wouldn't be surprised if McCown started at the beginning of the season. It's not a knock on John or a praise of Josh. Sometimes it is what it is, and he has 7 years under his belt. But I would put money on John starting this year.

Throw away every article, every commentary, every bias, draft status, Parcells' Guy, etc. And what do we have? An old fashioned QB competition, the best player starts, gee what a novel concept!

Yeah, I keep hearing that "Their Guys" thing. Parcells only likes "His Guys"... like it's some sort of weird inner circle where players have to eat a raw goat's liver and duct-tape Mike Ditka's butt cheeks together to join. Every coach has "his guys", but all that really boils down to is those are the players he knows he can count on... the guys that he trusts.

John Beck is a very, very hard-working, very talented guy, and there's nothing that says he can't prove to Sparano and Co. that he can be counted on... even if they didn't draft him.

I get you. Honestly, it's tough to call it at this point. If anything, I'd say Henne is practically out of the running, but that's only due to him being a rookie. If he's a quick study, and can catch up to the speed of the NFL, it's a 3 horse race... I just doubt it will happen for him this year. Come training camp, I think Beck and McCown pull away from him.

While Beck doesn't have McCown's experience, he's no rookie any more, and honestly, I think he's going to make a better QB simply because he makes much better decisions than McCown and has much better accuracy. McCown has only had one year where he threw more TDs than INTs (2004 - 11 TD/10 INT), and if there is even an average QB competing against him, I don't see McCown as anything other than his backup.

Even with the bad year that Beck had when he was thrown into the fire last season, you could see that while he was overwhelmed with the speed of the game, he never lost his cool, and aside from one or maybe two throws, he made pretty sound decisions on a banged-up, very bad offense.

If it's a fair competition, my money is on John Beck starting game one. I don't know if he'll keep the job all year, but I think he'll earn it in training camp. Personally, I think he's the best QB on the team.

I think the real interesting QB battle in Miami may not be until next year.

It's funny but everything I've read and heard about camp so far, from the guys who were there and actually saw what was going on has been that Mccown has looked better so far.
