A little help for the uninitiated, please. It's an interesting name, the Tuna. Lends itself to lots of marine quips. The High Zinger lands the Tuna. This Tuna swims with the Dolphins. If he ever gets fired, "Wayne cans the Tuna." And so on, ad nauseam. But inquiring minds want to know: How did Parcells come to be called "The Tuna," or "The Big Tuna?" Would someone please enlighten us?
Dont worry about that. The guy has had jobs with 4 different teams and never has been fired. He quits on everything
Here you go. Not the best nickname story I've ever heard but this is it. http://www2.jsonline.com/packer/arc/13097/opp/patn121.html
No, it came from the old Charlie the Tuna Starkist commercials. He was telling his players to not feed him a load of bull, that he was not gullible like Charlie the Tuna. After that the players started calling him Tuna or Big Tuna
so then it's just a coincidence that he resembles a tuna and his mouth gapes open when he's angry like a tuna? wow...
L.T. said it was that they could not call him the big va_ina so they used a word that was more televising friendly.I guess he was joking or high on coke at the time.
