It could be, I'm not sure. But it could also be my work firewall or something like that. Either way I trust you guys when you tell me he looks beefier. The real question is whether that was the problem and therefore will it be the solution.
well with the 2 pics although its maybe not the best example to look at, i don´t see much difference...lol
Tyson Clabo..Mike pounce..and Richie..that's a nasty crew right there, were gonna be tough up front that's for damn sure.. Fu&$ you Jake.. Oops.
I know I was/am probably in the minority, but I prefer the line how it is now. If you had told me before the offseason that I had the option of retaining Long to play LT at $9 mil or Clabo at RT and Martin at LT, I would have taken Clabo/Martin in a heartbeat. I just don't think Long is worth that much and I prefer Martin on the left. Heck, even without Long's salary, I'd probably prefer the current line. I just don't trust Long's body to hold up. I'd rather have a chance that the line will develop. IMO the best lines are those that stay together for a few years.
This may be noteworthy to no one but me, but in Omar's summary, he did say that Lance Louis expects to be ready by training camp (as CK alluded to in an earlier post, that could be a canned answer). But, I think he could be a sneaky good signing, provided he's fully recovered. I can't imagine him being worse than John Jerry was in 2012. I also like Dallas Thomas more than most. Hopefully he's recovered too. A few buddies and I usually make the trek down to Knoxville each fall to watch Tennessee get smoked by 'Bama or LSU. Dallas Thomas was more impressive at LG against 'Bama in 2012 than he was at LT against LSU in 2011, to me anyways. I'm not sure if he's anything more than a nice swing prospect in 2013 unless they get rid of Richie for cap reasons, but I think he's got a good future.
Exactly, one of the secrets to Ryan's success in NYJ was he inherited a OL that was very durable and had played together for yrs prior to his arrival, it went away and the team performance dropped off.
I did read that, I haven't spent any time watching Lance Louis's reps...( I did a lot of sussing saying those last three words lol) I'm with you on Dallas, I've watched about 500 reps, he looks solid to me, solid fundamentals, solid technique, really good base and anchor, built in stripper lumbar region.. I have read a couple of reports that have said that he needs to pull better which imo is BS, this kid can pull, has very good footwork on the pull, does this little drop step move that is fantastic and gets him out of his stance very quickly, I need him to be less finesse, and I need him to get over that shoulder injury so he can get his *** in the gym and fill out that frame with good weight and strength..
Gonna have to cancel that Fireland banner now. Even if he's worth that much, $9 million on 1/5th of the offensive line considering how inconsistent it was last season isn't smart. If you could put $5 million each into to solid contributors at the loss of 1 great one, at that spot on the team it's worth it. Disregarding the fact that Long was far from great the previous two seasons.
If Lance Louis ends up starting at right guard then all the pressure will be on Tannehill, Wallace, Hartline and Keller to produce a really good passing game. Not just a decent one, but a really good one. Jon Martin wasn't a good pass blocker last year but he was just as bad if not a worse run blocker. We're hoping that with a little bit of weight and muscle he can anchor better against the pass but I don't think anyone is hoping he suddenly becomes a good run blocker. Tyson Clabo at this stage of his career is a dependable pass protector that is questionable blocking for the run. Lance Louis is a pass protector as well. He has the ability to pull athletically but doesn't necessarily lock on and produce good blocks that way, and is more gifted in his mobility in pass protection and ability to adjust laterally and help out linemates within a zone protection scheme. With Dion Sims being a rookie, just learning how to block at the NFL level, I don't care whether he's supposed to be a blocking specialist coming out of Michigan State (where he was very inconsistent in his blocking), there's going to be a learning curve. Dustin Keller is not a blocker. Charles Clay is not a blocker. Even Jorvorskie Lane's lead blocking was overrated last year and the history of his career is one where he's been better with the ball in his hands than blocking for the guy with the ball. Michael Egnew...well, you get it. Combine all that with a backfield that features a 4th round guy who had 50 carries last year, a 2nd round bust at the tailback position (or near enough to it), a 5th round rookie and PERHAPS (if he even makes the team) a second year former UDFA...and you've got the recipe for a Marino Era type of ground game. We've enjoyed some success in this neck of the woods on the ground in recent years so I think perhaps it's not fresh in our memories how frustrating it can be when you don't have a good ground game. You've got to reach back and remember the Kippy Brown, Karim Abdul-Jabbar, 3 yards and a cloud of dust days. My concern at this point is the offense is not levered toward balance, and having a Lance Louis start in addition to guys like Jon Martin and Tyson Clabo...would continue to tip the offense away from balance.
That's one thing I did notice a bit in watching him. Against bigger guys in pass-pro, he can get walked back into the QB a bit. I do agree about his pulling though. While he's not going to be like Mike Pouncey in the open field, he's sneaky quick and doesn't waste steps.
Oh yeah I just realized the photos are all with the new helmets. Looking at the photos, does anyone get the feeling that maybe Egnew lost some weight? I'd kind of been wondering if part of the issue with him looking different in college to pro as far as running the routes and getting open is concerned was him trying to bulk up for the NFL. I wonder if in his MMA training he got in great shape but as a result he's lighter. Could be an improvement. We all know the guy's not a blocker anyway. I know this...earlier in the off season there was chatter about the Dolphins having to decide whether they would ask Jared Odrick to slim down for the role he had last year as an end, or to keep his weight up. I think the implication was that if they were going to keep him in the same function he was going to have to get down to 270 or 280 or so. Looking at his pictures, he hasn't slimmed up at all. To me this suggests he's moving inside more.
Some of this will be due to pads... Egnew at the Combine (not in pads) Egnew in Miami 2012 (not in pads) Egnew in Miami 2012 (in pads) Egnew now (not in pads)
If he's doing a lot of MMA training then I imagine there's still plenty of muscle there, but the heft is not there, less bulk. Either he's making a fatal mistake, or it's a brilliant last ditch effort to get his ship righted.
would love to know what he weighs now... what they all weigh now. Is that info released during training camp?
It's odd though, the forearms and calves are smaller and yet less defined... Where's DJ when I need him? Anyhoo, here's hoping it works...
I went on Bears forums and the general opinion was he was their best O-Lineman when he was healthy. Bears O-Line isnt great but if he was their best then i will take that any day.
Matthews had 11rec, 151yds, 13.7yds ave, 0TDs. I expect Rishard to make the squad next season. What stats do you expect him to put up out of interest?
He looks like he's lighter in the core areas to me...tighter more flexible stomach and mid section, smaller thighs, smaller lats. I'm no expert and I'm not even sure an expert could tell you anything based on those photos. Still. There's definitely a first strike glance that makes you think, damn that guy lost weight.
