Where in my post had me comparing Michael Caine to Paul Giamatti? All I was doing was using those examples in that none of those guys at the time of their casting had any background in those roles. You said Giamatti has no experience being a super-villian so I pointed out neither did Ledger (whose casting was killed by people all over) for example. If you go back to when Jackman was cast as Wolverine you probably would have hated the choice since he was best known for doing musicals, he never showed much diversity before.

Paul Giamatti was excellent in John Adams. not sure that's the same type of character he's played in other movies, e.g. Rock of Ages.

Paul Giamatti is also a HUGE comic book fan and his favorite villian.............Rhino. And just in case your thinking he said this for a role. It was in an interview about 5 years ago. Guy must be incredibly ecstatic to get the role.

So at the very least........he understands who Rhino is.

He even campaigned on tv for them to not only make him a villian in Spiderman 2....but asked for them to put Rhino in there.

Chris Cooper has signed on to play Norman Osborn. Pretty good casting choice.

Willem Dafoe is going to be a tough act to follow in that role.

    Meh.

He overdid it so much I thought he was hopped up on Pacino Pills.

Chris cooper is going to suck though. He's only been really good in Adaptation.

Christopher Waltz should be Norman Osbourne.

Dafoe overdoing it is why he was so good at it. Norman Osborn is not subtle.

I don't think he overacted at all. The mirror scene where he talks to himself/the Goblin is excellent, for example.

Good actor, I cant see him as a super-villian. It makes just as much sense as casting Topher Grace as Eddie Brock.

He was great in the Ides of March also.

Doesn't he play a villain or a jerk in almost everything he's in? I'm not a huge follower of his work but know he was a villain in The Muppets, Breach, Bourne Identity, and Me Myself & Irene. I think he was also a bad guy in Money Train and The Patroit. He was a jerk in The Town as Ben Afleck's father and also ended up being a bad guy in American Beauty too. So he's pretty qualified.

I haven't seen most of those. He wasn't a bad guy in the Patriot, it was the opposite. Guess he was the bad guy in the Bourne movies.

Oh ok my bad, I haven't seen that movie in a long time but for some reason I thought he was. Spoiler alert, he turned out to be a bad guy in the 1st Bourne movie. He started out as a good guy but was revealed to be a double agent.

American Beauty was pretty twisted for it's time. Now not so much cause the theme's been overdone.

Again, I still think we should wait until we see the finished product first before truly judging it, especially off of one picture that's wasn't officially released by the studio, just think to the first Catwoman photo and the outrage because she didn't have cat ears. Like Fin D is hinting at, perhaps this is before he actually becomes "Rhino", for all we know this could be a flashback that happened years ago.

One thing to note though, he looks like a tough guy in the picture. That was one of the biggest complaints about the casting choice since he played a lot wimpy roles in the past.

We'll see as it progresses. As of right now, it's not good. And I base that on the fact that they've already screwed up the main character and the origin....so it's not exactly a reach that they'll screw this up also. ;)

Yeah, they gave him a skateboard, how could i forget that affront to reason.

They made the Lizard, the way they were supposed to, as a big powerful lizard-man. Electro looks like the newer comic version of Electro too. No reason to think they'll greatly change Rhino either.

Who could forget Emo Sk8er Boy Andrew Gairfield? Man him with a skateboard really messed with the plot and totally ruined the film for me. I just hope Superman puts on those red undies by the end of Man of Steel or I'm rioting.

Yes, they did right on the Lizard. We'll see about Electro. I notice you sidestepped them ****ing up his origins. Does that mean you agree? Doubt it but I had to ask. LOL

However, the skateboard wasn't the only reason I didn't like the new Spidey. Far too hipster for me. That's my opinion, which of course unless it agrees with yours is entirely wrong. :p

And the only way they won't greatly change the Rhino is if they go CGI like the Hulk. End of story. No normal human is that large, so unless they go the CGI route they've already greatly changed the character.

For the record, HATED that. Douche chills.

The funniest part is, I don't know why I keep getting into debates with FinD. He'll post a thousand times to try to prove his point, and won't ever give up. Eventually I have to leave work and go have a life, but he'll continue to post long into the night. You think I'd learn by now. :p

I dunno i thought I read that the movie origin was similar to the newer Ultimate Spider-Man stuff. Regardless, everything gets changed from page to screen.

Of course I think they are going to use CG for the Rhino. That was my point from the beginning of this thread when you first got your leathers in a bunch about the casting of Giamatti.

Also, as a side note, leave it to you to create thread where you're *****ing about someone else's opinion on who to cast for the villains, and turn around and act like I'm ridiculous for *****ing about your opinion.

He's persistent though. Got to give him credit for that.

I agree I thought the emo Tobey was dumb mainly because of the dance number since it added nothing to the overall storyline and was distracting for being so awful and out of place but didn't think it was a big deal he had a skateboard in TAS.

I don't have a problem if filmmakers change things here and there as long as the movie/story is still good and as long as they don't go overboard with any changes. For example, I had no problem with Nolan changing Harvey Dent's "scar origin" because it fit in with the film or how Bane didn't have "venom" because it fit with the realistic approach. I would have, however flipped out, if Bruce Wayne wasn't a rich billionaire raised by Alfred but instead was poor and raised in the projects and worked in a auto shop (which would have happened if Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One scripit got approved instead of Nolan).

I don't mind changes either. I just like when casting is at least similar in looks to what we've all grown up with. Like I said, the guy who played the Russian assassin in the Punisher would have been perfect as the Rhino. And for those who worry about acting skills...do your research! The Rhino in the comics was dumb as a ****ing rock! You don't need Sir Laurence Olivier to play him!

Pre-Rhino, Rhino could be anyone, however the only way to have Rhino like the comics is CGI. Kevin Nash is WAY too tiny to be Rhino. Rhino is The Hulk size.
