The hound also saved Loras' life in the Hand's tournament when his brother (the mountain) was about to destroy Loras.

Agree about Davos. You feel that Stannis can't truly be so bad if he has the undying loyalty of a person like Davos Seaworth.

What happened to Jon felt like a kick in the nuts to me. I'm holding out hope that he lives since several characters that I've left for dead have ended up pulling through. Regardless I see the Night's Watch completely falling apart. They made a rash decision in murdering [or attempting to murder] Jon who was the only person keeping the fragile truce with the free folk going. Being that the free folk already passed under the wall they have the numbers to destroy the Night's Watch if they decide to retaliate.

If he were to actually die, I think it would be the dumbest thing I ever read. On the other hand, I don't want him to end up like Cat or Beric. An odd thing happened in the show with Melissandre meeting Thoros (and then taking Gendry). I'm wondering if this is a hint that she will resurrect Jon with them both being at the Wall.

Maybe he is just wounded? IDK. It was just so odd the way the whole thing went down. Being that Jon was making a lot of changes and yeah, letting in the wildlings pissed people off, but Jon was doing the right things. Getting that letter from Ramsay just sent him over the edge.

Book 5 leaves so much stuff open

I'm wondering if Jon survives somehow if that letter from Ramsey might cause him to reconsider Stannis' offer of making him the legitimate heir to Winterfell. I was extremely disappointed that he chose not to become Jon Stark, the appointment to Lord Commander of the Night's Watch made it easier to swallow but with that basically gone I'm back to wanting to see him become a Stark. Half of my motivation in that is wanting it to piss off zombie Catelyn.

The thing that annoid me the most was the fact the Night Watch were so stupid. I know they are not supposed to be intelligent people, however they have seen the dead walking. They saw them. They fought them. They are still concerned about the Wildlings at that point? It is the walking dead! Something HUGE is happening and they are worried by the fact they would have to fight along side someone who they don't like and have them take over farms that no one is using. All of them were so stupid. Plus they should know enough about Stannis to know that he would put them all to the knife for what they did. It just didn't make any sense what so ever.

If Jon does die it makes everything in the north boring. I don't want to read about nothing but Stannis. If he does die, I wonder if he becomes like Benjin.

Show just keeps coming every week, great show. The scene with Joffrey and his Grandfather was really nice, such a great cast. Keep hiding the spoilers! I can't wait for every week to see what is next. Jaime Lanisters character is so much better now, he's been great (actor and character) the past few weeks. Great story.

Not to mention it basically destroys what little is left of House Stark. He sure has been cruel to the house he claimed was his favorite in an interview.

Good episode this week, leads us nicely into what's probably the biggest episode of this season next week.

I liked Samwell killing the White Walker, but it was hinted at quite a bit by all the attention paid to the obsidian knife beforehand, which slightly spoiled it...and he really should have picked it up before running, I certainly wouldn't run away into those woods without the only weapon shown so far that can kill them!

Sansa doesn't realise how lucky she is to be married to Tyrion now, probably one of the few people in Kings Landing that can protect her AND not abuse her. The start of a thawing of the relationship between the Hound and Arya is promising too, Arya is not stupid enough to reject his help like her naive sister, at least whilst it suits her anyway.

I am still bothered by the fact he didn't pick up that damned obsidian shard. I hope the very beginning of next episode he realizes it and runs back to grab it or it will seriously bother me. How can someone be so stupid?

Dany's teddies finally made their triumphant return!

Great episode last night. Made use of the best story lines (Dany, Arya, kings landing, etc...). It lacked Jamie, but everything else was strong. Still pissed Mance Rayder is, to this point, persona non grata. WTF?

Episode 9 is coming.... should be insane. No idea where this season will end. Since book 3 is being split up ( don't spoil me, I'm willfully ignorant of the books) I'm hoping its not one of those chaos cliffhanger endings that mot do in this situation. A little suspense and cliff hanging is fine, but I want some resolution.

I didn't because this part is totally different than in the books. He killed the White Walker much earlier and when he was with the crows in the book. After that they called him Sam the Slayer. I hope he still gets the nickname.

Not sure how he's going to get that nickname now. I guess Gilly could tell some of the Night's Watch and they could still come up with it but.. not the same as some of them actually witnessing it. I'm also disappointed that the White Walker wasn't riding a dead elk when he approached.

It is. The episode is called "The Rains of Castamere," the song they play at the wedding (and characters have been referring to and singing this season) about House Reyne that Tywin destroyed...not to imply that you didn't know all of that

    For book readers:

Looking back on Robb's story it's truly amazing how much Martin completely screwed the character with a confluence of crazy events. I never really noticed it while reading, but Martin has characters making choices all over Westeros that completely screw Robb over, even when those choices don't even make the most sense. I mean, Balon Greyjoy seems to have little purpose other than to screw Robb and piss off the reader. He is introduced, attacks the North and then is quickly killed off stage when his purpose is fulfilled. He wants to be independent and decides the best way to do this is attack the only other kingdom that would support his cause..... Renly with his 100k army is dissolved with a shadow baby. Robb gets married in a complete WTF moment. Karstark goes nuts. Lysa Arryn should be a natural ally, with thousands of men willing to fight for Robb, yet their gates remain closed. It goes on and on.

It is a perfect storm of things going wrong but most seem feasible when you think about it. Except for Renly's death... Hormonal teenagers can do idiotic things and that's essentially what Robb's surprise wedding was. I blame the whole Karstark thing on Catelyn though it could have still been a problem if Robb would have ransomed off Jaime. Not that surprising that Balon betrayed Robb being that he hated Ned for putting down his rebellion and taking all of his sons. It was all crappy luck for Robb but really no different than the perfect storm of bad fortune that deprived Dan Marino of a Super Bowl victory.

Oh and there is also Edmure preventing Tywin from crossing the fords so that Robb could trap him. That one is plausible though. Just bad luck.

My problem with Balon is that his plan has little chance of success. Robb is a natural ally to his immediate needs. Raid his coasts later if you want, because you think you are tough. There is more plunder in the Westerlands for Balon anyway. His only chance of independence rests with Robb succeeding

True though. its was a pure crap storm

So, I've been thinking about this season leading up to Episode 9 which will come NEXT weekend (Bastards!!!!!) and not having read the books I have a prediction.....(I don't need to know if I'm right or not, I'm just bored and throwing it out there.)

I think Robb Stark dies and his army gets decimated. I think the fact he's going to attack Casterly Rock and that in E:8 Cersei tells the story behind the song "The Rains of Castamere" and E:9 is called The Rains of Castamere foreshadows his defeat and death. Plus, showing him happy and his wife newly preggers, also hints they are about to eff him hard in the goat ***.
