I posted there stats, about the only thing Bess had more of than Gibson was YAC. Other than that, Gibson had more yards per catch, TDs and 1st downs. And I can't stress this enough, Bess was the #2 last year, Gibson wasn't. Bess was pedestrian and limited to the slot. Gibson is slightly above pedestrian and can play in the slot or outside. Basically, time already told us he's better.
In defense of DBess, I thought THill's spotty ball placement hurt his game last yr. As the game slows down for THill I expect that to improve.
Because they offer something different, IMO, one of Jasper Collins and Chad Bumphis could have a good chance for one of those final 2-3 spots. Last year seems like we kept 6 WRs, so maybe will again.
I agree with all of that. I'm just not as concerned about it as you seem to be. WR was a serious problem last year and it's been addressed adequately IMO. Obviously we'll need to see them on the field before drawing any firm conclusions but on paper it's a pretty good group, light years ahead of where we were at WR a year ago.
In defense of THill his ball placement was effected by DBess' inability to get separation. DBess was on his way to his best year, so i don't think ball placement was that big of an issue.
Well two pages consisted of a ck/dd showdown... splash in some Fin D nonsense and we got ourselves a nice offseason thread.
You're an intelligent and ruggedly handsome person with wit to spare. There's no doubt you'll be successful in business and women. See? Nonsense.
Why are you presenting this as if that's the only way to view the changes? I think that's ridiculously semantical. To me, Brian Hartline is still Brian Hartline. He's going to play just as much as he did a year ago. And I don't even think his role will change much. Davone Bess appears to have been replaced with Brandon Gibson, and the Dolphins have taken that conglomeration of sh-t they kept going with throughout the year between Legedu Naanee, Jabar Gaffney, Anthony Armstrong, Armon Binns and a rookie Rishard Matthews, and they replaced it with Mike Wallace. Whether you choose to look at what the Dolphins have done as one big upgrade (Wallace) and another downgrade (Bess ==> Gibson), or you choose to look at it as somehow three upgrades despite only acquiring two new players...like I said, complete semantics. Chiding someone for viewing it one way over the other is pointless.
Really? I would think that Wallace would have more playing time than Gaffney, Armstrong, Binns and Matthews combined last season.
Not a whole lot more. They had over 800 snaps last year. And if you look at Green Bay's history with the WRs there, Greg Jennings' snap participation from 2008 to 2011 was 82%, 77%, 83% and 74%. Jordy Nelson's was 45%, 29%, 55% and in 2011 the year he had 1263 yards, it was only 60%. Regardless, acting like there's only one way to view or account for the upgrades is ridiculous.
I do agree that there is only one way to view upgrades is ridiculous. I think of it is as Hartline and Wallace with Gibson off the bench is an upgrade over Hartline and Bess with a bunch of wide receivers that never panned out or rookie Matthews off the bench. Which IMO is a huge upgrade. Mostly because our third wide receiver situation last year was inexcusable.
It is obvious that Jeff upgraded the Receiving weapons for the offense with the addition of Wallace and Keller. Gibson, by all rational accounts, is an upgrade over Bess. Binns had a promising end to last year and with a year's experience under their belts and competition from rookies the receiving threats as a whole is remarkably better than a year ago. Any other way to view it is semantics or just plain bull ****. Some people are bull **** artists, you can smell what their cookin.
I agree with you. It reminds a little bit obviously of 2010 when we added Brandon Marshall. But I don't think Mike Wallace is the receiving talent that Marshall is/was.
Really? So anyone who doesn't think Brandon Gibson is an upgrade over Davone Bess is being irrational. Nice.
Lol, the other day me and my son pulled up to a red light, there was a moment of silence, then all of sudden he screams out, I'am a fluffy dog!!!! That's some Mcnuuts sh&$ there lol. If you watch that video above, you'll see a TD catch in the back of the end zone against the ravens, not sure Bess can make that play at that depth..
I think it will be tough for Cunningham to crack their 53 man roster with Jackson, Maclin, Avant, Cooper, and D.Johnson on the team.
Pro Football Weekly graded McNutt with a 2nd to 3rd round grade last year; gave Fuller a 3rd round grade, and Matthews a 4th or 5th round grade. Lindy's gave McNutt a 4th round grade. Lindy's also gave Matthews and Fuller a 4th round grade. Given the time necessary to develop receivers, the Dolphins have three developmental guys right there with pretty high draftable grades. Throw in Bumphis and Collins and that is a good mix of young talent to compete. A much better level of competition this year than last year I believe. And, I didn't even mention Sinkfield, Binns, and Tyms.
