Good, because I have been laughing at you this entire time for different reasons. Happy we both can supply each other with so much entertainment.
The NFL had a simple but good statement regarding Mike Wallace's tweets. That was the gripe with Wallace. That was the great message the Onion delivered on him. No one was censoring him. No one condemned him. But he showed his cards as just a dumb, ignorant, a-hole. Unaware, and uneducated. And he was called on it. Quite frankly, that's been you two. To not care is one thing. To not "know" or "get it" is another. Both is just sad. You guys are entitled to your opinion. And I don't think either of you are hateful or racist. But I have to conclude that, between the both of you, there is MAYBE 3 or 4 semesters of a community college education. Tops. And most of those classes were probably specialized, certainly not liberal arts. You are sorely in need of knowledge, as made evident by the embarrassing argument that has transpired throughout this thread. I give credit to Fin D, as he can't let it go, and is actually trying to educate here. Further, to watch the moronic, not to mention improper, use of a very malicious slur for 10 pages? You're swiftly digging a deeper trench of stupidity. Hiding behind hyper-sensitivity? A guy who has spent thousands of posts crying over girls, complaining about over-sensitivity? At least Fin-O has always, steadily, been half brain dead. There is a significant group of fellow citizens that this team name deeply insults and hurts. It doesn't effect you, it effects them. Eh, no skin off your asses though, right? Right. There's a place for the "American Pussification" argument, but this isn't it. I type this with nothing but the most beneficial intent to you both. Stop what you're doing and go get a proper education. Get better jobs, get better lives. If this insults you, good. Its 'Merica. I say what I want, and you'll end up all the better for it.
I give FinD credit for that also, as in vain as it may be. One thing I've realized from years of being on message boards is that people will never change their stance or beliefs. To use the old saying that we use in the music industry:
The reason education is brought up is because you both clearly don't understand the ramifications of what racism or bigotry creates. You are still both acting as if we are upset about a comedian who made a joke about Chinese drivers. Actually, education would help you both, but the real problem is you are both really just "young, dumb and full of ***", as the saying goes. That means neither of you are mentally developed enough to be able to understand the plight of other people. You both are too egocentric at this point to understand things that exist outside your own sphere of influence. Basically if doesn't get you drunk or blow you it doesn't really register in your underdeveloped minds. Travis, I think you'll get there some day though. Fin-O? I doubt it. He wears his ignorance like a badge. He is literally proud of the fact that he's ignorant to things that aren't sports, porn or money. I can say all of this because you think judging someone by their words or actions as we've done to you, is the same as judging entire groups of people based on color, faith, or something a couple of them have done once, as you've done to various races in this thread. The day you realize, that not only are they not the same thing but in fact, complete opposites, is the day you'll get on this site and tell us we were right. Fin-O? That chuckle head will be in prison getting passed around for cigarettes first.
No one thinks you're a hateful racist, just ignorant. You believe you are not racist, you think racial jokes/stereo-types/words are funny, and you believe the world is too sensitive. You, you, you. You have a "the world is my toilet" mentality. You don't bother to understand or respect those outside of your minuscule circle. A socio-economic course of the past 50-100 years would do wonders for you. You have no idea, not a clue, why things are the way they are.
You just shot your whole argument to **** with that comment. 1. You used a key word...friends. I doubt quite highly that the NFL franchise in Washington are "friends" with the Native American population of this country. 2. You said that when you're around your friends who do get offended, you don't say things that will offend them. Well, the Native Americans ARE offended, so in effect the team is "not saying" by changing the name. So what's your problem with that? By your standards, it's only okay to alter behavior so as not to offend if it's your friends who are the ones offended? What a crock bro!
Goodell doesn't seem to worried about it.... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/e...ner-we-will-never-change-the-name-of-the-team
"Napoleon complex is an informal term describing an alleged type of psychological phenomenon which is said to exist in persons, usually men, of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subjects' stature. The term is also used more generally to describe people who are driven by a perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects of their lives"
The ignorance is strong in thread. The lack of self-awareness is almost as sad as the arguments used to defend your racists views.
No one is telling you how to be with your friends. That's why I feel you still don't really understand what is being talked about here.
If I may, I agree that people have become overly-sensitive in this country. Political correctness is absurd these days. With that said, the Native Americans find the name racist and therefore it should be taken seriously and compassion and sensitivity should be shown. I'm all for jokes, but to them, it's everything but a joke. I do understand the organization and the fans are committed to the name, but they're going to have to do something eventually. I liked Ronnie's idea of dropping the 'Red' and just calling them the 'Skins'. I don't know if that would be good enough though. I don't think they'd even have to change their logo. Is their logo considered racist? I can see why the Indians logo is considered racist, but I wouldn't say that about the Redskins' logo, but I could be wrong. I definitely don't like the name 'Redtails' though.
They are misspelling the the lazy, low-brow racial slur "Injun." They are spelling it phonetically, like a child learning to write for the first time. Really rounds out the ignorance and stupidity displayed in this thread nicely.
Oh, now it makes sense. I was really confused reading through this thread last night when people kept saying that.
Racist to whom? I certainly get a kick out of this because those who scream most about the "outrage" know so little. I posted something in a similar thread regarding this subject, so I'll be repeating most of what I posted there. The Washington Redskins were originally named the Boston Braves, but as there was also the baseball team, Boston Braves so the following year, they changed their name to the Redskins. Why was the team originally called the Braves? What did the team stay with an American Indian motif? The teams very first head coach Boston Redskins was William Henry "Lone Star" Dietz and George Preston Marshall, the owner/founder of the Boston Braves (football Braves) renamed the team to the "Redskins" in HONOR of Dietz and the Sioux Indian nation that Dietz was. Did you hear that, it was an HONOR! But today, too many people, ignorant people piss, cry and moan about the "racism" of the word. The word "redskin" may be offensive to you and others, but you fail to realize the context of the word as it was used then. Redskins is offensive to you as it conjures up visions of racism...just like "queer" conjures up visions of an anti gay slur when "queer" truly means odd or strange. *** is also another one of those words that conjures up negative connotations when its truly meaning is a stick or British slang for a cigarette. No, "Redskins" as the name of the team was NEVER a negative connotation and was so named to honor the warrior spirit of the Sioux Indian nation, but words have evolved from their once true meaning to words of negative connotations, the ignorant have let the same happen with the mascot of a storied NFL franchise, a franchise which was one of the very first to integrate African Americans onto its team while facing ridicule from not only their colleagues in the NFL, but from the public in general. To change the name of the Washington Redskins would be more of a racist act as it would completely dismiss the reason George Marshall named the team in the first place. But for those who fail to educate themselves, go right ahead and bask in your ignorance.
Redskins has never been a non racist term. And the people that find it offensive are Native Americans. Are they wrong to be offended by term that has always been a derogatory term towards Native Americans?
George Preston Marshall was a racist SOB. Last owner to allow black players on his team. Screw him. Hope he burns in hades. If there is such a place. Some folks call it hell. I call it hades.
I agree with all of this, and the posters open and closed version of history. I'm not offended by Redskins, so screw anyone who is. Y'all is ignorant.
Of course they are. Just like there wouldn't be anything wrong with a team called the Detroit N*ggers. Or the New York Kikes. Baltimore Dagos. Boston Micks. Atlanta Crackers. It's all good.
Have you taken a poll to support your "Native Americans are offended" comment?? Do you know multiple Native Americans and have had deep conversations about how they feel?? Not likely, your just talking out of your *** as usual trying to feel like a model citizen by taking a firm stance on something you can't even backup with facts. Have a seat kid the theatrics are over, you lose.
This might be one of the most asinine posts I've ever read. It's one thing to be a bigot, it's another to not even realize you are.
Do me 2 favors? #1 read this from the link in the OP: or even read this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Redskins_mascot_controversy that has things like this in it: favor #2...blow it out your ***. Because you're wrong..again...surprise. Don't even man up and apologize for the first time, just stop posting in this thread.
Oh no, he knows exactly what he is and what he's doing. After all, you can't spell "effin troll" without Fin-O.
New Ottawa team is called the RedBlacks. Just dumb. Otherwise this whole conversation just reminds me of Randall in Clerks 2 (we got a lot of Randall's around here):
