I'm listening to the whole interview and Mike Dee needs to tone down his attitude, because there is always next year and if that guy has as much power as Dee claims he does, then that's not a guy you should piss off.
Well Jim Defede mentioned exactly what I just posted "this is going to be the same guy speaking next year, these words you're saying is not going to help you next year". And Dee responded with this is not a guy you can win over regardless of what he says about him or not.
I disagree, stick it to the man Dee! Dee did a good job calling him out, Why should one person decide if this bill gets passed or not? Let it go to a vote, There is always next year and this negative attention to his decision might make him more willing to let it go through.
There is no next year. The Dolphins aren't going to waste their money on this again. It's up to Miami Dade to deal with their own economic development.
Oh well, what's done is done. I am sure something will get worked out eventually after a talk with Goodell. The NFL wants the Super Bowl in Miami, it is the preferred destination by most of the players and administration in the league.
"There is always next year" is like saying "maybe" Cubs fans been saying that for 100+ years. Dee has every right to be pissed. I agree with Dee saying that the house of rep thought his one vote was more important then everyone else. The fans who attend the games lose on this. Ive been to a game in September. Its too hot to enjoy a game. Miami lost out on this bill not being passed. Super Bowl 50, the biggest Super Bowl ever will be going to San Fran.
Worst part is that Miami-Dade likely will never get another deal this favorable. The team made unprecedented concession in hopes of getting SB50.
I mean really how many superbowl are they going to have in the mideast/west? They need to be either in Florida or California where the weather is nice and ppl have something to do leading up to the game (NO as well) and the NFL knows that.
Yeah its a sad day for the Miami-Dade area, because one guy is power hungry. This is what happens when one person has so much power.
SF, Arizona, Houston...there are plenty of warm weather cities with significant better facilities. San Diego is an instructive example, they haven't had one in a long time.
Miami Dolphins are one of the only franchises in the NFL that doesn't have a long term lease with their community. -Dee Since Joe Robbie Build the staidum, Heat has got two stadiums, Marlins got theirs. Ross won't move this team, but another owner might, if Ross sells. If the Miami Dolphins leave Miami it won't because of Ross. I don't think Miami moves, but there is still a chance there that they do. Atleast if Miami got this approved, they would have been cemented in Miami for good at least
I hate to throw my hat in here but those attacking the speaker of the house as "having too much power" need to relax a little bit and introduce themselves to how the republic actually works. He could have certainly sped up the process, but honestly, Miami brought the issue up late. It's well within his power to not bring it up because simply put - it was one of the last issues brought. There's a crazy amount of spin here, and an even worse understanding of the process itself. There are other avenues that may be taken. On a personal note - This interviewer is ****ing atrocious. He's a pot stirrer. Half of his comments are baseless and made in an attempt to exaggerate. I mean, get real. Asking if this was a bad idea? Talk about making a statement versus asking a question.
The other avenues are much worse for the people of Miami Dade. This was a great deal for those people. It wasn't a great deal for Ross. This isn't about Stephen Ross or Mike Dee. They will make their money. This is about the Miami economy that is one of the worst in the nation. This is about the 27% of Miami residents that make $15k or less per year. Those are the people who lost.
Well, to me, this deal was a no brainer, also think if the team starts winning no politico wants to be the guy who got in the way of a concern that is growing in popularity. Personally I feel such upgrades are needed, but also think a new stadium is required as they keep trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear, Joe Robbie's vision was incorrect for the area imo.
Didn't seem like he had an attitude to me. He just simply laid out the intentions of ownership which he represents. He wasn't aggressive or combative in his responses at all.
Then as Speaker you say, "It's too late for us to make a decision." You don't give your word on something then renig at the last minute. I hardly doubt Ross threw 5 million into something he didn't think was going to be voted on. For someone to blow 5 million...there is some type of reasonable assurance that this thing will at least reach a certain point.
I have news for you....it was going there anyways. This was more about making Sun Life a more valuable asset for Ross than it was about anything else. If you choose to not believe that, then so be it, but that is what this was really all about.
I have news for you... Miami had a 100x better chance to get super bowl 50 then they do now. Miami had a good chance to get that super bowl, now they have no chance. If you choose to not believe that, then so be it.
Oh I totally agree Ross thought this was a sure thing, and that is why the not-so-veiled threats about helping to cure Tallahassee Dysfunction are a full frontal attack on Weatherford. It will be very interesting to see who runs against Weatherford in his next race and how much outside money goes to them.
Your contempt for Stephen Ross profiting in a partnership is disheartening. You realize that Ross inherently profits when Miami-Dade profits??? It's troubling when people are against economic development for a struggling city.
If the SB went to Santa Clara there was a concession made that the deal would be off and the renovations wouldn't continue. In order for the deal to be approved the Dolphins were required to get SB 50.
I agree they have no chance now, because they NEVER had a chance at it.....why are people so naïve ? The NFL has wanted a Super Bowl in San Fransico forever. We only got the Saints / Colts Super Bowl because San Fran had to backout because their stadium deal didn't get done on time. The NFL never gives out SB based on a stadium that isn't built, except for they did it for San Fran. Goodell so wanted one there he was willing to go out on a limb and award them one, even though everything hadn't been already in place. No other city would ever get that kind of consideration except there I don't believe.
So the NFL never gives out SB based on the stadium that isn't built, except for they did it for san fran? That makes your first statement false. Dolphins never won a super bowl. except when they won in 72 and 73.
I'm not against him profiting, who said I was against that ? I believe his best bet, is to go to Broward County and just get them to build him a stadium. How about that Broward taxpayers, aren't you just willing and waiting to do that for Mr. Ross ? C'mon be good citizens, its all good for Broward County. It'll bring in 4,000 jobs (that don't last more than 2 years) and it'll all be nice and rosy.
people still way to butt hurt over the marlins they don't realize how much superbowls and sporting events help the cities
Stephen Ross best financial option would be selling to someone who wants to move the team out of state. He doesn't seem interested in investing the time necessary to move. Broward County is not ideal. South Florida isn't ideal. It has the worst wealth inequality in the nation. The middle class is all but gone, and the NFL relies on the middle class for attendance.
Yes they did.....we took that Super Bowl on short notice because the NFL knows this area can do it, and did a great job. The game was originally awarded to San Fran based on "promises" the stadium would be built for it on time. The NFL deemed that Candlestick was unacceptable as a venue and asked Miami if they could do it. Look it up, its part of history.
okay good. I am just saying, you are contradicting yourself by saying NFL never does this, but they do.
It's one economy. They literally are connected. Teams must rely on both counties, as well as PBC, for attendance. If you're going to relocate, you don't do it to an economy that is in shambles.
I suggest everyone pick up their phones and voice your concerns/opinions with Weatherford. http://willweatherford.com/contact/ Direct link to his email: http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Representatives/emailrepresentative.aspx?MemberId=4399 And his Twitter: https://twitter.com/willweatherford I plan on emailing him and stating, how as a fellow Republican I am disappointed by his short-sightedness and lack of economic awareness. This deal could have made a big impact on both Florida and Miami economy." I encourage you all to do the same.
Those people are much more lost because of an old law that allows for this horrible economic gulch in the 1st place, the right to work laws, that prevent wage earners easier access to collective bargaining. A Super Bowl once every 4 or 5 years is not going to change the economy of Miami-Dade County. The promises of all these other events, well that is all they were, promises. Did Ross & Dee have signed commitments from these other events ? If not then, how can you know if they would have come here or not ?
And for anyone to just excuse Broward out of this is ridiculous. If Broward can't afford this, then how did you expect Miami-Dade which has a greater number of lower income residents to do that ? Stringer, come on.....
