Because we needed state approval for the ****ing 1% increase in hotel bed tax that only affects tourists and the state rebate tax which was largely going to be repaid over time...

But thats fine, continue to spout illogical bull****.

It is completely legitimate to expect beneficiaries join into a favorable business proposition. Does Stephen Ross benefit from 4,000 new jobs at the stadium? Is Stephen Ross the only one to benefit from the massive influx of expected tourism from hosting MAJOR sporting events?

I work for NASCAR, in Daytona Beach. Please tell me all you want about how you think the owner should be the only one to pay for such a thing, meanwhile my city and county continues to push for public financing to help....THE FRANCE FAMILY...but "omg they are so rich, they should pay for it all" right? Because it's not like Daytona Beach, or Volusia County reap any benefits? Oh wait....Im here on planet earth, join me sometime.

It's just funny to me how Southern Cal is itching to build a team like the phins a brand new state of the art facility, meanwhile our lemmings here in florida jump on the "hate a rich guy" bandwagon when he is only expecting the local and state governments to approve a deal that is already in their favor.

Ross needs to start workin on a plan to get public funding for a NEW stadium now. That should be the target before threatening to relocate/sell the team to someone who would relocate.

    Whatever.

Ross is a billionaire and the Dolphins are a privately owned business. Let him pay for it.

Should restaurant owners start asking for tax payer money to build big famous restaurants? Many businesses help the local economy, not just sports stadiums.

Look, the fact you would compare a restaurant to a stadium, and the sheer amount of venues that can generate immense profits for the surrounding communities is a complete joke.

I was hoping the Jags would leave Florida. This way the Dolphins could just move North and fill the Niche. I think the Orlando Dolphins has a nice ring to it.

And then Roger Goodell steps in and says "sell it because you are not moving it".

The team getting moved is a non story.

Lol, I would love to have more opportunities to see the Phins, but thats a horrible idea. Miami/So FL is a big market, and a wealthy area. Which is pretty much the reason why Miami won't be relocating, under Ross or otherwise.

I do like the idea of the Jags moving though, I hate seeing them on local TV

Yes but wouldn't the Entire eastern state be an even bigger market? I'm about 90 minutes north of the Stadium. I go to several games a year. As big as the SoFla market is, those seats are never filled. Tons of space out there in central Fla. They can plan/ build the best stadium in the world there. Satellite parking lots and monorails like Disney , public transportation , Hotels , It could be sick. Plus Ross does have that connection to Sea World. :knucks:

So what do you expect Ross to do with the stadium he owns, paid for dearly, and has on the books as an asset? Scrap it? (You do understand that when the public builds the stadium, the public owns it, so Ross would not own the new stadium.)

Oh well. This decision doesn't really affect the team. The field itself is in good shape and is a pretty fast track for a grass field. Fans will return if the product on the field improves. The lose of big time events and home night games doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I think what really bothers Ross is he lost out on the Big Game. The 50th. He loves being the center of attention. He loves the big name celebrity owners, the nightclub he built in the stadium. The Red Carpet. He wanted the flashbulbs , the handshakes , he wanted what his Billions can't buy. Now he has to go back to being the NERD that was made fun of when he was younger in school. Just I thought......I really don't know ****. :wink2:

There's no chance they move to go to a much smaller, equally transient area.

Yes, many businesses do receive subsidies. It is a common practice:

Ross made the worst business decision I can think of when he bought the stadium with the Phins. Bad move buddy..

    The suits have no clue.

The fact that the renovations cannot move the lower bowl, and upper deck closer to the field, tells me the disadvantage will continue to be there, the roof would help with some energy keeping people in the shade, and if Goodells reason for not keeping us in the loop is because of rain, then maybe drop 100 mill of your own money on a new roof..

The NFL almost never accepts cities that don't provide subsidies for stadiums.

It's like reading people comparing a government budget to a household one. Clearly ignorant of the scope, scale, and intricacies of what they're talking about, but confident enough in their debate skills to push ahead arguing.

Lets dump that sh&$ and start an OB2 committee, I guarantee this town would get behind that..oh the marketing could be genius...both programs involved..

Have you ever seen that Hurricane stadium project concept stringer?... Just add the dolphins to the equation, make it a dual threat concept, I think you could do it for 750 mill.

The complaint wasn't rain on the field. The complaint was how many Gucci loafers and handbags were destroyed in the stands.

Yeah right, somethin is shady, is there nothing on the record from Goodell as to what he wants out of us, I mean if it's rain, then just put the roof on it, won't cost you 400 mill to do that.

 And good thing he is renovating that piece of crap. The TV makes Wrigley Field look like this amazing wonderful beautiful field but everyone that has been to Wrigley Field is afraid to sit down on that dump, cause your seats might cave in.

What's wrong with the seats is that they're in such poor condition/eroded due to the heat/sun light/other weather conditions it goes through. I haven't gone to a game since Pennington was here and I can imagine they're worst off right now.

Not as comfortable as seats in other stadiums. The kitchens are too small which harms the quality of food.

Oh ok..hmmm, I think Ross has to try to cut the job to get it around the money he was willing to spend from his end, lets say 200 mill, without the new screens, without adding rows and doing whatever it was they were gonna do with the endzone corner sections, he might be able to get it done and make Goodell happy..?

  34. smahtaz

    smahtaz Pimpin Ain't Easy

That's the problem DJ. Ross was planning on using the bed tax as a revenue stream to provide collateral for the construction loan. If he's going to pull this off now, he'll need to be very creative.

Like I said, he went to bed with this stadium when he bought the team..I could of told the billionaire it was a bad decision, but he did it, and he needs to be clear with the NFL as to what they really want, and like you said get creative..obviously legislature has no clue about a world perspective, exposure to the region, and the prestige that comes with a world class venue, so he's gonna have to take the hit, and do something..

I would almost gurantee that Goodell said nothing about adding rows, reconfiguring the end zone corners, and adding four new hd screens...that's got to cut the budget by half.?

I know of all the teams that can relocate the Dolphins are the least likely, because of the stadium. What is Ross going to do ? The Hurricanes still play there and have a long time lease so what is going to do, pull the Dolphins out of there and create even less revenue for the place ? Are you nutz ?

Exactly, plus non-Canes and -Dolphins revenue. Yeah, he will just throw that down the tube and move the Dolphins, cause he will get a better deal than owning his own house outright. Silly stuff.

Smaller maybe, but WAY more convenient for North and south Fla. The masses will come Tenfold. They can start from scratch , Ross is a developer he can build his own City/county. Make it the place to beat for all Superbowls. No place will compare because it will designed from the ground up to accommodate it. Ross can build from there. Build communities , Parks, Schools. I'd let Miami choke on this.

To expound upon the seat issue, I think it was more than just replacing he seats. I remember one of our architectural members describing the changes to be made including moving the sections around to create better viewing angles, decrease luxury box sizes and make a more intimate setting. I think in the end the number of people to fit into the stadium would be lower but more comfortable with better viewing angles. What was described wasn't as simple as taking the seats out and putting new ones in. That was almost a year ago I believe so I don't know if that is a part of this renovation, but I imagine that it was since that was one of the critical issues in addition to the roof.

Were there empty seats when the Dolphins were a consistant winner ? NO....the attendance problem is more that the Dolphins have been consistent losers the past 10 years than anything wrong with the fans. It's like this in most markets. Look at the Jets, if they don't win, that stadium is empty. Same used to be in New Orleans, Buffalo, Houston, Phoenix, almost anywhere. There are exceptions such as Denver, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, Green Bay and maybe even Dallas (which has the biggest following of any team outside of the NY Yankees in this country). But when confronted with consistent losing most cities fail to support their team. Detroit for years couldn't fill the Silverdome. Even last year in Kansas City, which used to have a 30,000-40,000 waiting list for tickets, they had 15,000 empty seats.
