how do you know we didn't get one of the guys we wanted? Davis was one we were smitten with IIRC, so did we really miss out on the pick? There's still the aspect involved of trying to play the draft. With your approach you might as well say we should've drafted him in the 1st round.

Before we traded back into the 3rd round when we still had 3 4th round picks. I would of drafted barkley why not, now not so much. I hope we add a safety still some good ones on the board.

Maybe, but that's not the point. You could tell he was disappointed how that last sequence turned out. I think he misjudged the situation a bit. He figured a lot of his players were still there, and he could get a few early picks in the 4th and have a shot to secure a couple of them. Then things did not go as he planned, and he was forced to go back into the 3rd to secure one of those players.

It wasn't a disaster by any means, and Will Davis looks like a nice pick, if albeit raw, but i think he was disappointed a bit.

If he was our target then we got him. but it costs us more. Thats the "cute part" that Padre and I agree on.

Not planning to have a contingency plan at the most important position in all of sports is stupid. If RT develops into a legit QB then Barkley rides the bench for the duration of his contract and moves on. No harm done. If RT gets hurt, doesn't develop or Barkley turns out to be the better player then so be it.

Why do so many Dolphin fans think RT should be coddled like an infant? Should Miami bench RT if they are making a late playoff run and during the playoffs so it doesn't do harm to his confidence if he fails too?

If adding a QB in the 4th round destroys RT's confidence and reacts like the FO is preparing for him to fail then better to find out he is Ryan Leaf-like now than giving him the keys to the franchise for a couple of more years. You really think RT is going to be react like a low-esteemed child if Miami spends a 4th round pick on a QB after spending the #8 pick in the draft on him last year? Whoa...

He is 25 years old, maybe fans should accept RT deserves the chance to prove he doesn't need the FO/coaching staff to treat him like he needs diapers and a pacifier to someday succeed.

youre ignoring Moore's entire presence. We have, arguably, one of the best backup qbs in the league, whom we just resigned THIS OFFSEASON. Theres no place for barkley.

But with Moore as our back up, for atleast two more seasons, we don't need to add a back up QB. We have it, and a good one at that. We know what we have with Moore. We don't need Barkley as a 3rd QB

Nope, they put a 4th rd grade on him and "stuck true to their draft board"

Keep in mind as well, we've traded in rd #2 for guys we had to have:

-Sean Smith, traded back with the Colts
-Daniel Thomas traded back into the 2nd for him

trying to make calculated decisions is a part of every draft. Padre's notion of trying to get too cute is complete nonsense. Ireland's shown no tendency for doing that since he's been in charge that is any different than any other GM. If anything he's shown to be more assertive in going after the players he wants than passively trading back. This is nothing like what NE does every year.

This. No reason to pay a pretty decent contract to Barkley to have him back up Moore. Moore is a great back up and like you said, arguably the best back up in the league. Redskins didn't have that when they drafted Cousins.

    Honestly?

Only as a 7th rd pick who is cheaper then Devlin, and even then he would have to beat him out for a roster slot.

Well for what it's worth, IMO Ireland is a bit upset at how the night ended. He felt comfortable that the guys on his board that he wanted would be there in the 4th tomorrow, and traded back from 82 to secure a couple more. He got a little panicked when he saw a bunch being taken at the end of the 3rd.

I think he was happy with how his draft has gone so far, and that last part sort of clouded his sunny day a bit.

It wasn't a disaster, and the move still turned out decent, but i felt he looked slightly disappointed.

Nah, I totally misread what happened..again...

Folks may laugh at this, imo what Ireland really needs is to just trust himself and take his guys.

His player instincts are great, his poker instincts are terrible

Also, i think Ireland looks more comfortable than ever taking shots at riskier and more raw players now, because he has confidence in his coaching staffs's ability to develop these players. Today he drafted perhaps 4 talented but raw players, and i feel he would not have done so 2 years ago.

I dont ever want to see RJ stanford and Jimmy Wilson again, so im pretty pumped about this.

And if Grimes recovers, he's arguably the best CB in our division.

I'm not even going to talk much about Ireland here cause being critical of him pretty much got me banned on the other site by his playmate but anyways....

Ireland always tries to outsmart everyone when it comes to the draft, always does some ridiculous trades and reaches. I feel he has too much power in the draft. Last year was his rare good draft, so 1 out of 6 drafts have been good.

They showed a headline bar on NFLN today saying we only have ONE player on our roster that we have drafted and is a pro bowler.

That says a lot, though I think last year's draft and of course Reshad Jones will add onto that list eventually, and this year's draft may turn out to be a very good one too but so far I only like Dion and Jarvis. Blame it on Parcells if you want about that NFLN stat, to me it's a collective blame because Ireland was still the GM, he wasn't the receptionist in Davie.

No, I like Ireland, think he is a solid football guy.

What I dislike about Ireland is he plays the "..well we have several options here.." games a bit to much

What I like about Ireland is no one bargain shops like he does

If you want to blame everything at Parcells go ahead.

I've seen this guy pass on all pro players left and right too many times for guys like Vontae, Sean Smith, Koa Misi, Daniel Thomas, Phillip Merling, Jake Long and that's just off the top of my head. There's more to be named, Ireland's drafts are mediocre at best. He tries too hard to outsmart everyone and instead ****s over himself.

Only Jake's 1st 3 years? How does that change him from being an all-pro player?

Surely all these players Ireland is passing on aren't All-Pro's every year. At the very least he isn't the only one passing on them. Regardless of that, I don't care if you criticize him by saying his drafting is mediocre, but lumping Jake Long in with those other names is silly.

Name a GM that hasn't passed on an all pro player to pick a non all pro player many times. I'd wait, but you cannot since there isn't one.
