Tavon Austin Was Dolphins Original Target

Yeah I read those too ... gonna rub a lot of salt into the wounds of the Austin fans

 

So what I gather is, Miami ranked Jordan #1, and Austin #2. They knew that Jordan would not be their at 12, but Austin may fall. When they realized that they would not get Jordan, or Austin they decided to get the guy they wanted, and got Jordan.

 

The only constant in life is change.That was months ago ...and things change.

 

It goes to show you how wrong the Ireland haters are about his drafting tendencies.

 

This may indicate that we could be targeting a WR tonight. Stedman Bailey?

The idiot's on NFL network (Jamie Dukes and Heath Evans) just got done ripping the Dion Jordan pick and saying Ireland has had a Terrible offseason. Wow how do these guys get paid, its Draft day how do these D squad analysts get on t.v? Just reinforces my hate for those 2 guys.

Well Skip Bayless said the Dion Jordan pick was one of the worst in the first round. That's the best endorsement this move could have possibly gotten.

 

This doesn't jive with what Ross said about how the idea of trading up went, tho....

 

You'd think that they'd learn after Bruce Irvin shut them up.

The NFL is moving toward eschewing conventions on grades and more toward acquiring their guy at all costs. Cowboys did it, Titans drafting Locker at 8, Bruce Irvin last year, etc.

I'm happy we didnt land Austin as I consider him a luxury pick.

Sure when looking to buy a house the fancy appliances and other fancy upgrades catch your eye but someone better have their eye on the foundation.

 

Ireland could've had Austin if he wanted him, tells me he had Jordan higher on his board.

 

I have not watched NFL network a lot, but what I have seen I do not enjoy. Most of them times it seems like the former players think they are still in a locker room and act like it. Don't trust their analysis and even less their ability to convey their thoughts in a clear manner.

 

Heath Evans always jumps at the chance to dog us out.

 

I would be extremely surprised if we didn't target Swope in the 3rd Ryan's built in security blanket. He isn't a Tavon Austin but he is a quick YAC receiver that we could really use.

 

Except that time he said Tannehill was the best QB in the draft and that we did well drafting him.

Not high on the Jordan pick, but considering they gave up a 2nd, of which we have 2, and there is zero doubt its a position of need, it was indeed a shrewd move.

The idiot talking heads at all outlets are going to have me loving this pick before the day is over.

Peter Pricko the incredible ignoramous gave us a C- for our pick, but gave the Lions an A+ for Ziggy Ansah 4 picks later. That might be the stupidest thing I have ever seen anywhere.

Or him knowing he was on borrowed time he's showed some balls and made some moves this pre season that might make or break him. He might actually be out of his comfort zone but he's actually doing a decent job imo (up to now). Cudos to him.

 

I heard someone on ESPN describe Dion Jordan as a game changer, and that is all that needs to be said about him. Everyone, even Gruden was saying what a good athlete he was, and Gruden was the most negative of anybody. Irregardless Dion Jordan was a top ten talent and Ireland grabbed him.

 

He said the Dolphins move was because of panic. I fail to see how that even closely resembles what Miami did. DE/OLB wasn't a huge need for Miami. In fact, I was very shocked Miami got Dion Jordan because I didn't think they wanted another one. There was no panic in this move.

 

Gruden always slates Miami picks. Ive noticed it last few yrs. Hard to slate a pick that every mock draft expert analysis ive read on NFL.COM had Jordan going before our pick at 12 but once again Gruden goes negative. Unreal. Just glad we never got him as HC. His voice grates me nowadays. Love to know why he goes negative on us.

 

Ok so we covet Austin at pick #6 and cant trade there so we moved up to #3 with Austin still there and went Jordon instead? it's a 3 pick difference, if u covet a guy you pull the trigger and F**k the critics.

I actually think we are getting slated in some corners by "experts" because they dont actually follow and look into the Dolphins games and our weaknesses. We arnt fashionable due to our record and playing at 1pm every week. No prime time games. If we dont play in NY or called the Patriots then we get a bum deal. Its been like it for yrs. I was expecting it. If the Patriots had moved up and grabbed Jordan we wouldnt be reading half of this crap. Pardon my French.

 

rule of thumb if many people dislike our draft then chances are we will end up with average players.
example many people were doubting us the last two years mainly the wide receiver corp AND truth is dolphin fans were so wrong about how crappy our wide receivers were the last two years which makes those people right and fin fans wrong.

I would bet that we get a "c-" from most of the media and that will unfortunately spell lack of success for us . I just hope that I am wrong.

Anyone have a link to the reaction to the jordan pick on ESPN? All I can find is NFL network which I watched live.

 

Ive seen a lot of As and Bs. Those killing us are the least reputable and most kneejerkers out there. Mayok loves Jordan, Jaws loves Jordan. In contrast, Skip Bayless hates the pick, Prisco hates the Pick, but loves the Ansah pick.

It seems pretty clear that we were targeting Austin at #12. What changed was that Austin became a target at #9 for the Jets. We didn't rate him high enough to move up much for him. We did rate Jordan higher, but weren't going to give up much to move up. I do think that we were ready to offer the Browns #12 and Bess to move up to #6 for Austin. We made the same offer to the Raiders who declined but countered with #12 and #42. As reported they never expected the Raider's to ask for so little. I expect our board had Joeckel or Fisher then Jordan then Austin then Vaccaro or Eifert then Werner on it. I'm not sure whether or where Lane Johnson was on it.

 

So why was Jordan expected to get picked by EVERY NFL.com Mock Draft expert before our pick yet when we grab him hes a reach? Logic goes out the window with that imo.

 

He's ripping Jordan b/c Oregon uses a deep rotation system. That's not on Jordan. Oregon also had Jordan drop into coverage quite a bit, so Gruden and others are claiming he didn't have high volume sack numbers. But if you look at it on a per pass rush basis, Jordan was up there right behind Mingo as one of the best pass rushers in the draft. Jordan is basically being ripped for being versatile enough to be used in coverage.

 

Yeah, I saw that. They were ripping Jeff Ireland pretty hard and knocking drafting Dion Jordan because they think he's nothing special. Highest rated d-end/olb prospect and they spew this nonsense. Hey Heath Evans --CHILD PLEASE.

 

If you think we missed out of Tavon Austin just think about this for a second. The Jets were looking like they were in good position to either draft Austin or Jordan. It was pretty much a guarantee they would get one of them. Them sitting and waiting around, Dolphins swoop in and take Jordan away, no big deal, they will get Austin, then the Rams swoop in and take him away from them. Jets had to settle for their bottom two choices, imo.

 

If Belichick had the same offseason as Ireland so far, they would have been erecting a statue in the studio and prostrating themselves before it. For some reason many in the mainstream media seem to hate the Dolphins, and will take any opportunity to have a go at us.

 

Panic would have been taking Johnson because there'd been a run on OT's, which most of us thought the trade up was for. As you say, picking Jordan was as far from panic as you could get.
