Fron Twitter: @seankjensen: #Browns seriously considering a trade for Dolphins WR Davone Bess, according to a league source. Several teams in the mix.
Sean Jensen @seankjensen WR Davone Bess is a solid player but let's not get crazy; I'm hearing mid-round picks being discussed.
I dont think you get a 3 for a 3.4M cap hit and a WR who is really a #3/4 type on a good team. Lucky if you get a 4. More then likely you may get a 5 and a future 5.
Adam Beasley: Davone Bess is indeed on the trade block, and multiple teams have interest. At this point, it would be more of a surprise if he isn't moved. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 via Tapatalk 2
No freakin way..if you want Bess and your only willing to part with a fifth, then you don't want Bess.. Good luck finding a fifth round pick with the talent and work ethic of Davone Bess.
4th rd pick would be best case scenario IMO, but doubt we get that from the Browns (and especially not a 3rd) since they don't have a 2nd.
I guess this was the plan all along, given the Gibson signing? And With all the rumors swirling with trading for Albert, are they leaning towards Austin or Eifert with the 12th pick?
Right but many slot guys have some big play ability. Bess has NONE if we're being honest here. He makes no plays downfield. Everything he does is inside of 20 yards. And while hes great within that radius, he doesnt score a lot of TD's. hes a chainmover and you dont get great value for those guys. Much of the time theyre undervalued. Here I think a 4 or 2-5's is legit compensation. Hes not cheap at 3.4M and being a #3 wr and you have to factor that in.
gunna have to agree with dj that a 5th is pretty ridic. This has to be for draft day ammo. I could see a 3rd/high 4th happening in a flat out trade with someone.
Not the biggest fan of Bess, but Bess>Gibson. They better get a younger piece like an Austin, Bailey, Patton, Wheaton, or Swope. Maybe even parlay the pick into Jacoby Ford.
In agreement with DJ. If you can scheme for Bess; motion, mismatches, etc., you've got yourself a very good slot receiver. He's got great hands and he knows how to find space. He can also make things happen after the catch. My most ardent critique of this new regime was the lack of scheming for Bush and Bess.
I'm hoping this is going to mean Eifert one way or the other. I'm really hoping so. Tavon would be sweet, Eifert would be fkin awesome.
Well if Albert happens before or after KC picks their T at 1, what are you thinking is gunna happen at 12, Con? Whether its at 12 or not, I think Eifert to miami is a strong possibility unless the browns get in it first somehow.
Hes good at finding a marker and moving chains. i love the character of the player but imo hes not a great #3. Hes a guy that if you talk about him as your 4, youre talking about a very strong wr corps. That would jive with what GB did with Jennings-Nelson-Cobb-Jones. None of those guys are confined to 20 yards like Bess. I bring it up because its probably something Philbin mentioned when evaluating the position.
I dunno about that. Bess has a special gift at moving the chains and keeping our drives alive. I'll be very disappointed if we get anything less that a high 3rd rounder.
Also, this is a great move if they are trying to bait San Fran for a trade. Speculation is San Fran wants to come up for Austin. If that's true, Miami just traded their slot receiver...
It's hard to move guys around that can't play on the outside. This coaching staff does not have confidence in Bess as an outside receiver. Moving from one slot to another is really the only motion he can make, and it's not nearly as problematic for a defense. This is really a case of Philbin's reported desire to have receivers that can play inside and out.
I have said the same two names for a while now. I can't say too much as this isn't The Club. But I've said who I think we're looking for. One guy I mocked to us in the Club level Mock.
This is a pipe dream. Look at the free agent market for slot receivers. Wes Welker is the greatest slot receiver in the history of the game, and he got $5M a year? I think Bess' value is closer to a 4th round pick.
