Just to be more specific the back injury Albert had that caused him to miss games last year was due to back spasms. I'm not medically inclined so I don't know how long it takes to recover fully from such a thing. Does anyone know?

If we give up #54 and are able to trade down in the 1st and recoup another 2nd round pick I'll be cool with that ... otherwise I'd prefer a 3rd for BA

Ireland has done the draft equivalent of flushing 2nd round picks down the toilet. This would be an improvement over his current track record.

No its conjecture based on numerous conflicting reports leading up to the draft which is when all manner of misinformation is floated about.

These stories you're reading have the factual weight of the National Inquirer.

If Miami's going to pony up pick(s) and/or players (Randy Starks, perhaps?), I'd rather investigate and see what Denver wanted for Ryan Clady (also franchised, and to my knowledge, hasn't signed his tender either) before Branden Albert. Clady's better, and younger.

I hope they don't do this trade. There are good tackles we can get in the second round.
I understand Ireland is bad at drafting in that round, but we can hope.

Giving up a second round pick for Albert feels right to me.
Fill a hole and more flexibility in the draft. He passes that physical he will be a Dolphin IMO.

It's being reported late on the nfl network that Miami is offering #54 and is willing to give Albert a long term contract..

Ireland has wasted plenty of 2nd round picks. This would be one of his better uses of said round selection.

Also, Albert is better than the OTs that would be available at the 54th overall pick.

So you would rather hope that a guy with a less than scintillating track record of drafting in the second round will be able to find a tackle rather than acquiring one that has a proven track record?

exactly. while there are some concerns/risks over his health, when healthy he is an instant starter. getting the 5th or 6th best Tackle in the draft with #54 is just as risky that he's not starter material.

the only downside is the contract may be painful in a few years if Albert's back gives out in a year or two. I'd rather take the risk and make a run next year when all these players have a year to gel together and Tannehill has another year under his belt.

Albert Breer is saying that IF a deal is made, then it likely won't be until day 2 of the draft. I'm ok with that as it would give us time to see how day 1 pans out and what's still available before pulling the trigger.

I get back spasms myself. Not an athlete by any means, but mine certainly don't, and aren't going to, get better with time. Of course, it will more depend on what is causing the back spasms with Albert and whether it is treatable.

2 to 6 weeks I was told. I had a back spasm about 2mths ago. 1st few days you struggle to walk let alone run. The muscle just seizes up. Painful. If u rest for even 10 minutes it can clamp up. After a couple of days you just have to keep using the muscle and be active. Resting the muscle is the opposite of what you should do to get it back to normal.

After holding off and reading everything here and weighing it out, about the best I would be comfy with is the 3a pick. I also agree we would be able to score something in the 2nd round, but I wouldn't wanna lose anything before 3a for BA.

Is any other team even interested in Albert? I've only heard about Albert to the Dolphins. If this is the case why on earth will be pay asking price? We would just be bidding against ourselves. 3a or even better the 3b for Albert? Ok. I'm fine with that. One of the 2nds for him? Not so much.

Good point. And, Maybe that's exactly what's going on? Let 'em know you're interested, but let 'em sweat it out. The price, theoretically, should be dropping a little more with each passing day. Get him for a late 3rd, maybe not a bad deal.

Maybe other teams' GMs are smart enough not to let their interest in Albert become public.

Maybe you are very right that not all GMs would let their interest in someone public...maybe some GMs are smart enough to throw up smoke screens or maybe smart enough to actually think the kid can do something for us, knowing that they have to upgrade the OT position, be that at LT or RT. Maybe some GMs have seen the medicals on Winston and don't think he's the answer ?? Maybe the Chiefs leaked the Fins interest for reasons of their own....perhaps to feign more interest in one of the three OTs in the draft...Maybe (and the more likely in my small mind) the agent leaked the info to put more pressure on KC to sh!t or get off the pot with Albert...

Maybe some of us, myself included don't have the right facts here, the right information here and simply are speculating based on our own biases....maybe...

Albert is asking for Jake Long type of money, on a long term deal. [pleaseee say no Ireland]

It'll be very hard to explain giving a 2nd rounder for Albert, and paying him a long term deal with equal or greater money than Jake Long. Very hard to explain.

Yahoo Sports is reporting the deal unlikely to happen unless Albert lowers his contract demands significantly. It appears right now he is seeking $8-$9 Million.

it's what made the deal appealing in the first place..not paying him what Jake was offered that is.

I'm not so sure why it would be hard to explain. At this stage of their careers, Albert is better than Long. Two years ago, it might not have made much sense to let Long Walk and trade for Albert, but Long hasn't been a top LT in the NFL since 2010. I realize injuries caused his decline.but he still isn't as good as Albert right now. I just don't think the Dolphins should pay him the money he wants. I would rather see them try to trade up in the first round and draft one of the top three LT's.

Albert should only be traded for if he is willing to take less money than is being reported he wants. I think if he is willing to take less money and if the Dolphins can get him for a third round pick instead of a second round pick, he would be a good option, if they don't think they can trade up and get one of the top three LT's.

I'd doubt it, probably the late #2 and (imo a #4)

As I said, just a rumor, but think if we wouldn't pay long that kind of money, we aren't paying Albert even more.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It sounds a little more serious than I first thought. It also sounds like something that could be overcome with a full offseason but it could depend on what it causing Albert's issues.

I would play Martin at LT and just sign Winston. Keep our own picks and go from there.

I still don't know how I feel about this. If you're going to give up a high pick and big money you might as well just draft one. All though, you know what you're getting in Albert and he's in his prime now.

    Tough call.

I have said this before, I'm not thrilled with trading up so high for a lineman. If you're trading up that much, it should be for a game changer. Dee Milliner would be sweet if that does happen.
