I thought Ep 2 was stronger than Ep. 1. I think the new character intros were well done, particularly the Reed children. I am becoming more and more convinced that the show will outpace the books. Im not sure what to make of Catelyn's monologue about Jon.
Yeah that's what I based my opinion off of. She is a self righteous *****. Besides the obvious things with Jon Snow, she nearly got Tyrion killed and all of the nonsense that Ned got wrapped up in that cost him his head was kind of her fault too. Then she ends up F'ing Robb over by releasing the kingslayer. I saw last night that they've really changed the nature of her feelings about Jon Snow on the show. It seems they want TV Catelyn to be more likeable than she is in the books. They actually kind of started it in season one but I didn't think as much of it then. I'm talking about the scene when Jon goes to see Bran before leaving for the wall and Catelyn tells him that he should be dying instead of Bran. That was conveniently changed for the TV series.
That definitely seems to be the plan. I'm guessing the reason the show doesn't have the Reeds going to Winterfell before it fell as in the book was to cut down on air time in season 2. Also the fact that we're seeing Theon at all is a pretty big deviation.
I was thinking about it, and the only change is that they are showing what happened to Theon instead of it just happening in the background. A change from the book, but not really a deviation.
Wayyy back on page 1. but... Breaking bad and Rome are more than strong contenders. Shame HBO canceled Rome and screwed season 2 to hell. I think their characters are much stronger than GoT. GoT really only has a handful of people I'm interested in in comparison (although BB is much smaller, so...). Although, the women of GoT are certainly better than Rome's (minus Atia and Cleopatra). GoT is one of the few shows that portray women as interesting characters who're deeply tied to the story. And Emilia Clarke is... Emila Clarke. I'm finally caught up. Watched GoT seasons 1 and 2 this week. Hopefully the show picks up in s3 because it's been a bit of a snoozefest. Really interested in Jon Snow's adventure with the walking dead. Hope we get more of it soon.
Snoozefest? If you feel GoT is a snoozefest then I'm fairly certain, you and I live in two completely worlds.
No, I meant season 3 has been a snoozefest to this point. maybe that's no t really fair either, but considering where season 2 ended, I was hoping for an exciting start. season 1 and 2 were great. season 2 in particular.
Characters are probably the last thing I'd criticize from Game of Thrones but to each his own. Season three will start picking up very soon. The book it's based off of is probably the best one in the series so far. Can't really say much of anything without spoiling but things should start moving along very soon.
The producers said in a panel (with a bunch of the cast at the Emmy's) that episodes 1 & 2 are exposition and from there all hell is supposed to break lose. Oh, and the one show I'll never forgive HBO for canceling was Carnivale, the last half of the second season **** got real and then....poof.
For those with knowledge of the future... How important is Mance Rayder? Why is he so popular? Just curious...
I'm not sure how people are going to feel after the ninth episode this season which is titled "The Rains of Castemere". Book readers will know why.
Read an interview with the producers, and they said that scene was one of the handful of the key scenes from the books that convinced them to try and make this show.
Well, that was a "cracking" episode, in more ways than one. Some great scenes in this one, loved the smackdown from Tywin on Cersei at the end, and the Brienne/Jaime scene was good, the acting from Coster-Waldau in particular. Arya continues to be played by an astounding actor for someone so young too. And, as if there's not enough good acting in it, the Queen of Thorns is immense in every scene she's in. Would love to see a scene between her and Tywin.
This is the best show on TV right now IMO. I've never skipped reading books so that I don't spoil the show. I've read the 1st two books but I'll wait till after the season to read the 3rd. The cast is one of the best ever IMO.
This. And I'm not just sayin that cuz in illiterate. This is my favorite show right now. Theres a bazillion great books out there. But not too many shows like this.
I wonder if the author will write one last book to finish the series then delay its release so that the show can finish first. It would be a clever marketing move by HBO if they do it that way.
The Winds of Winter is already in progress from what I've seen. If the publishing is delayed I'm going to be pissed. I finished 'A Dance with Dragons' the other day and I'm already having withdrawals from nothing to read. Someone said earlier in this thread that there were supposed to be seven total.
Martin's writing it but that means nothing. He's notorious for taking years to finish his books. Don't be surprised if it is three to four more years before it sees the light of day.
As Fin D said, A Storm of Swords is split into seasons 3 and 4. You'll know where to stop, but it won't be easy. Season 4 is likely to have elements of books 4 and 5 as well. Books 4 and 5 are not really in chronological order so that might be a little jarring. After this season, I think you will be safe. I expect the show to outpace and condense the later books. Books 4 and 5 are not stand alone seasons, imo, despite being massive.
Ask and I shall receive. Although the odds were pretty high it was just around the corner to be fair...
Book 4 and 5 are pretty much the same book split into two and it tooks 7 years to finish A Dance with Dragons.
It was a little slow for sure but this story in general is all about building up to the moments like the one that ended episode four. I don't think it was ever written with the intention of moving at light speed.
It maybe wasn't quite of the same standard as the last couple of episodes, but I still thought it was pretty good. The death of Ros was a bit of a minor shock, and did a good job of reminding us all how much of a sadistic ***** Joffrey is, and the true nature of Littlefinger. Although Theon's torturer looks like he may begin to rival Joffrey in the sadist stakes. I think the Theon storyline is dragging a bit though, wish they would get on with it...
