Yes its outdated. They won because Flacco brought the air attack with a 117.2 QB rating. They did it by scoring 31 pts a game in the post season. That is not Parcells football.

Ireland brought in decent players overall. The coaching and player development was atrocious. Ireland made some big mistakes, namely being wrong about what available veteran WRs were worth money wise. He admitted it and learned from it. You can have decent players and still have a losing record you know.

I think we will now. Most receivers we picked up in the past were typical Parcells possession receivers...hell the Parcells way even turned Marshall into a possession receiver while here. You brought up Bess earlier, yet Bess was UDFA, so no he wasn't Parcells material he wasn't a risk either and has played better than 99% of UFDAs.

If we don't make the playoffs (outside of catastrophic injuries) then I'll want him gone, but blaming our woes on him since he's been here is not looking at the whole picture.

No, Jeff supposedly argued for keeping Sparano during/after the fiasco of a trip to California to try and get Jim Harbaugh to coach in Miami. As GM, Jeff should have known Sparano was in over his head and gotten another coach a year sooner. At the very least, Ireland should have been drafting for BPA, even if he did not know exactly what style of offensive/defensive systems another coach would run. Tough spot? Sure, but that's why he is paid millions of dollars every year to be GM.

Having just three years to build a good team is very possible in the modern NFL. Everything is set up for teams to be about average with minimal effort, and getting to a good level happens with smart drafting, FA signings, and a bit of good fortune. Getting to a great level is the hardest thing to do, but let's see the Phins get to 9-7 or better before we worry about that.

QBR does not equal aerial attack. Alex Smith 105 rating throwing 170 yards a game.

Romo threw for the same yards under Parcells, that Flacco threw this year, and Romo didn't start the whole year. 5th ranked passing offense under parcells 2006. Baltimore 15th ranked. Scoring, Dallas 4th, Baltimore 10th.

I think overall he did mediocre and that's why we were mediocre. But in this game, mediocre makes for 13 years and one playoff win. Decent players are not good enough. Look at how stacked Seattle and SF are, and how fast they got that stacked.

If Ireland continues to be decent, he should be out of here. We need excellence.

He was a part of the leadership that brought this mediocrity here so yes absolutely. The reason why is because I feel QB is so important, so important, that a good QB can almost will teams into the playoffs. He absolutely got the Henne thing wrong, him Sparano and Henning, and that set us back 4 years.

So while Mike Wallace is nice, the 11 draft picks are nice, but if Tannehill doesn't progress, or even regresses, we're screwed.

Wait up... At the time, Ireland and Parcells had the top QBs rated as Ryan and Flacco by a lot over Henne, Brohm, etc... But none of these 08 QBs were considered a "sure thing", just the best QBs available in that particular draft. Weighing taking a gamble on a first round QB that they weren't 100% on against a "sure thing", "can't miss", "future All Pro" in Jake Long, they took Long and then looked for the best QB left available. They wanted Flacco and actually tried to make a move to get him, but had the Ravens take him at mid-way thru the first with a pick the Ravens got from Houston. Henne was a consolation pick at QB. They simply had to have a QB and he was the best of what was left in the 08 draft, aside from perhaps Flynn... It was a weak QB draft. Henne was never "the guy" or their highest rated QB or anything of the sort. He was simply the 3rd or 4th best rated QB on their board and was available...

Are you saying that Flacco didn't put on an aerial attack in the playoffs?

And? You think one year with a QB playing above what a Parcells QB usually plays on a team that Parcells had no say in player acquisition, the year he quit...is proof of something?

Why do you ignore the fact that Henne was exactly the type of QB Parcells wanted? The Parcells QB checklist is a real thing. It is also NOT meant to be a jumping off point in the evaluation of a QB, it is the whole evaluation of a QB. The checklist is seriously, seriously flawed.

Regardless, you've essentially made the bar for GM's, one draft and one QB. That is insane.

    Canada EH!
Jake Long first overall in 2008, Pouncey 15th overall , Martin 42nd overall. That's three top draft picks on the line, center and both tackles. Yet our line after 5 years is still no better as a unit then it was before them. Sure Long has injuries slowing him, pouncey so far is great, Martin it's too soon to judge. I am only saying that's 3 fairly high picks on the oline, and we are no better off for it. We should have had one of the best lines in football, should have been able to plug average guards in with those 3. I also liked the Long pick and Pouncey pick. Martin I was like ok then, we did need a tackle after turn style we had.

I would be ok with them taking 4-5 lineman this year in draft offensive and defensive added together that is.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Long and Pouncey pretty undeniably have played well, are you confused that they have not somehow manned the other spots on the line as well as their own?

I wonder if he would take Odrick and Misi over Dez Bryant every year too?

I'm thinking his point is, our strategy of spending VERY high resources on the o-line hasn't paid off. And the guy who spent those resources is still here, and might possibly spend even more resources on the line that he's spent MASSIVE amounts of resources on.

The O-Line is so complex, so important, with so many pieces, a nice mix of high picks and mid round gems or even UDFA/Free agents is needed for a great line, because you cannot spend high picks on the oline completely.

So far, we've failed with that. He did ok on Jake, very well on Pouncey so far, and that's about it. He hasn't uncovered any stars elsewhere. I understand, new regime, new philosophy. But Ireland hasn't shown he can pick oline for any philosophy. We'll see how it shakes out this year.

If you spend resources on that position and get good players at that position, it has paid off.
