He's older, but a great pass rusher and a good fit at the right price imo. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...cialist-john-abraham-20130315,0,7884312.story Sun Sentinel is a pain now, pay only after a few views.
Go Get Him! He will not cost much and will be as good a situational pass rusher as the Dolphins can get. This would be an excellent move.
If Irish gets this done I will be extremely impressed. Make it happen Jeff. Then get Jake back here pronto!
Really don't want him to sign with the Patriots, who knows if our O-Line will be any good. Would be a nice boost for us as well for the time being.
The thought of Abraham going to New England over us is sickening. We need every bit of help we can get to even compete with them.
As I posted yesterday, He was in Miami with his agent yesterday. He already met with us. He is now visiting the Pats.
I recall it mentioned he was seen in Miami, but I didn't see any confirmation, he'd met with the team. I see it now. Thank you.
Maybe Abraham didn't visit after all: While the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported this morning that Abraham had visited the Dolphins today before heading to the Northeast, Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post comes with the opposite word, that a source close to Abraham said he had not visited. UPDATE 12:13 P.M. ET: We seem to have a tiebreaker. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald is fairly emphatic that this didn’t happen. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-reports-on-whether-abraham-visited-dolphins/
Actually he hangs out in South Fla quite a bit plus he works out here so its not unusual to see him here during the off season.
Abraham indeed visited Dolphins On Friday, we tried to sift through conflicting reports on whether free-agent defensive end John Abraham visited the Dolphins. Since then we were told by a very good source that Abraham did indeed visit the Dolphins. Another source confirmed that the visit happened. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/16/abraham-indeed-visited-dolphins/
Evidently, there is still some interest here from both sides. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/12/report-dolphins-not-ruling-abraham-out-but-not-pursuing-him/ Really, I don't see why we don't get serious about signing him. I think he'd be better than any DE we draft (Next year, that is) and would really be explosive on our DL since with Odrick he doesn't have to go every down - he can alternate series and on obvious passing downs Odrick can move inside and bring Abraham in. That would be such a potent attack, imo. I think Abraham would still have a good couple of years. I understand we are likely going to look at him after we come out of the draft. But, if he's an option this year, why not ensure we get him; then focus on other needs. And, go for a pass rushing DE in the mid rounds and also look for a young one next year.
I agree. If we signed him and Winston, the entire draft could be BPA. There would be no glaring holes.
I agree but like with Winston we're probably waiting for the price to drop. If it does then maybe we pursue it. If not, then I doubt it. It might simply be a difference of a million or something minimal by NFL standards....He may want a 2-3 year deal and we may only want to go 1 with a vesting option, an easy out without huge bonus money or something to that effect. I hope he is a Phin, but something tells me Ireland is in buying on the cheap mode which to be truthful, this is the time of year for that....
Oh, I don't think this is true: CB LT RB are all positions that better be addressed somehow someway. Abraham would indeed be a very key signing and would certInly open up the draft for us......but there are still some glaring holes out there.
I suppose if one were not sure Martin will improve, that may be a glaring hole. I certainly would not consider a corner duo of Grimes and Marshall to be a glaring hole, nor Patterson as the slot corner. A 3rd running back needs to be addressed, but that is the 3rd back. Hardly makes RB a glaring hole. Good RBs can be found throughout the draft.
So, you are convinced that Lamar Miller can carry the ball 15-25 times a game? I think you are in for a surprise...or else I am. I think that we are in deep Kimchi if we are counting on Martin at LT. That has already been outlined ad nauseum...and yes, I think we are in serious trouble at CB as well. If it were not for Grimes, we would have, perhaps the worse CB tandem in the league. All that being said, I still think that Abraham, depending on the price, would be an ideal signing as at this point, we are also in dire needs of a pass rusher. Another monster Pass Rusher will indeed make the CB's and entire defensive backfield seem much better than they are.
I do.t understand the thinking that we have bad CBs. Marshall and patternson are more than adequate and grimes has the potential to ne our best cb since surtain and Madison. And on another nite, can anyone make an argument that RB is a bigger need than TE
The Dolphins haven't ruled out free agent John Abraham, but haven't "pursued him recently after initial conversations." That suggests Abraham will be a stronger possibility in South Florida if/when his price comes down. He'd be a luxury addition for a team that's already set along its defensive line. Abraham hasn't made a visit in over 20 days.
They probably shouldn't bother signing him if they're going with a DE at 12 but if they're not, there's room at the inn. I love him. I'd consider taking Devin Taylor AND him. Can't have too many guys that can rush the passer.
Yes, why couldn't he? You think he is too injury prone? Apparently, the Dolphins braintrust believes he can be a starting RB too. So our corners wouldn't be as good without Grimes? Well couldn't you say that about every team if you took away their best corner?
Well, we aren't sure that Miller is going to be the main guy yet. Lots of time before they have to say one way or another. The draft will certainly show us exactly what they want to use him for...and yes, I am VERY concerned, that if asked to carry the ball 15-25 times a game, he won't last till the 2nd 1/2 of the season. It's a pretty big drop-off after Grimes. THAT is the issue.
