Really thought safety....but couldn't pass him up. If anyone wants a cheap above average run stuffer.....Gary Gibson (480k) can be had for a 7th now.

yeah you can't trade a guy you signed in FA even if you cut and signed him. You removed the right to trade him based on putting him through the FA process.

21 year old kid to groom as a 4-3 nose tackle. It'll take time like they always do...but he's got a solid start.

I likely won't be able to check much stuff today besides when I break for lunch, and then after work. I hope we get through like 10 picks by the time I get off work.

Yup he was the last guy for me in the top 75....but a lot of folks seem to think he's probably moving inside to LG at the next level. So as I said about not being able to justify adding him was because I already have Greco at LG (Ironically NFL draft scout compares him to Greco) with Rinehart as the backup guard.

It's said every draft though, a few people will end up taking a player that goes undrafted, and some people will sign UDFAs here who are taken in the draft.

He's athletic enough to play any spot. As to what he'd be best at, that may depend on what coach he goes to.

All I know is that I hate the Eagles for taking him.

Its a great pick but if he wants to play LT he probably should bulk up or get drafted in a zone blocking scheme.

Boik got hurt in terms of the draft value when Dennard went in the 7th round because of the character concerns but played well last season. So if he has a good career then the Patriots got a steal and Boik hit on draft value, if he goes the way of any other CB drafted by NE in the last several seasons like Wheatley or Wilhite it's a lost, but if its like McCourty it can be a push.

That's What She Said took Chris Johnson in the first around where he was taken in the real draft and hit that pick. Gish drafted Jamaal Charles right after with his first while the Chiefs got him in the third round, so there's a pick that's kind of close to value where the real team got a steal.

Allow me to take the time and highlight some currents GMs past drafts. I'm only go as far back as 2009 because it should give us a pretty good glimpse of 4+ years. first up Paul13:

    2008:
1st-11th overall (from Buffalo) Jonathan Stewart
    * Not really worth the 11th Overall, but then again he's been up and down his career looking like a stud some seasons, dealing with injuries in others. Worst of all he's stuck splitting with DeAngelo Williams.
1st-18th overall Chris Williams, OT Vanderbilt
*I'm thinking this one is a bust.
2nd-44th overall (from Carolina) Early Doucet, WR LSU
Hasn't really stood out, got cut this offseason.
3rd-94th overall (from Buffalo) Steve Justice, C Wake Forest
3rd-95th overall (from Buffalo) Brad Cottam, TE Tennessee
4th-125th overall (from Atlanta) Brian Johnston, DE Gardner-Webb
5th-146th overall Nicholas Hayden, DT Wisconsin
6th-173rd overall (from Buffalo) Kevin O'Connell
6th-177th overall Arman Shields, WR Richmond

    * I know he got good value at the time for O'Connell because the Patriots took him third, but then again he's another waste of a Patriots pick, like a second round CB.

I know Paul wants to have this one back, the only pick I can really give a nod to is Stewart because he has been productive and looks like a number one back at times who should carry the load and not share it. Otherwise this draft was a load.

    2009:
    1st - 10th LB Rey Maualuga - USC
Still starts, but there are quite a few minuses that make him not worth a top ten selection. Definitely not Rivers, but not close to the other USC LBers.
1st - 21st RB Chris "Beanie" Wells - Ohio State
    1st - 25th LB Larry English - NIU

    * Man Paul is not building up a good track record here with first rounders.
    2nd - 41st CB Sean Smith - Utah
This is a win for Paul, because he's still an in demand CB. You Dolphin fans know better than myself on if this is really a good value, I think it is.
    3rd - 67th TE Shawn Nelson - Southern Miss
I don't even think he's in the league.
    4th - 112th NT/DE Roy Miller - Texas
Paul's best value pick between these two drafts.
    5th - 148th RB Kory Sheets - Purdue
    6th - 164th DE Pannel Egboh - Stanford

You get a pass because these guys are late round picks, so you can miss on them.
    6th - 166th G Louis Vasquez - Texas Tech
Maybe even better than the Roy Miller pick.
    7th - 212th QB Mike Reilly - Central Washington
    Somewhere in the CFL.

So Paul did alright with four picks, with his best value in the later rounds.

Well I'm doing drafts prior to 2010, in the future I'll look at 2010-2012 maybe. Anyways here we have our beloved commissioners drafts from 2008 & 2009:

    2008 - Tennessee Titans
    1. Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
    3. Tavares Gooden, LB, Miami FL
    3. Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa
    4. Tyrell Johnson, S, Arkansas State
    6. Johnny Dingle, DE, West Virgina
    7. Drew Radovich, OG, USC

    - I don't believe this draft class evolved into much, Limas Sweed was an unfortunate bust who left the league after only a few years.
    - Gooden and Tyrell Johnson were more or less depth guys, thought I think Tyrell was a starter for at least a season, so for 3rd/4th round picks they aren't terrible but maybe later round value.

    2009 - San Francisco 49ers
    1. Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
    2. Robert Ayers, LB, Tennessee
    3. James Casey, TE, Rice
    3. Andre Brown, RB, NC State
    5. Mitch King, DT, Iowa
    5. Christopher Owens, CB, San Jose State
    6. Chris Clemons, S, Clemson

This draft faired better as James Casey, Chris Clemons and Andre Brown are very good players for their specific roles. Casey is actually one of the top H-Backs in the league and Andre Brown had a 100 yard game this season but could be gone like that as he's travelled around the league.

Though round 2 is a bust. Round 1 is ok because he's still in the league and can be a starter if not for his injuries issue. Not terrible, I'd say decent and like Paul there are issues in the first round.
