In case anyone doesn't know, that entire interview can be seen on the official dolphin site. Its probably close to an hour long. Great info in there.
When I watch the tape, I see a runningback who knows how to use his blockers, who explodes into the hole when he sees it, has enough speed to turn a 3 yard run into a 5 yard run, with really good quickness, a great spin move to lesson the blow of the first tackler that allows him to gain a couple of yards and a runningback who for the most part always looks to move forward. If he continues to develop he could be a great runningback.
Thing I flat out love about Miller is his ability to - quickly - make a decision, and then almost as quickly make a cut to the right place. Just seems to find the open space, no matter how small it is. Over the course of a season, w/ his speed, that will make for some very big play opportunities. Reggie, on the other hand, had the speed, but didn't always seem to make the quick decision on where to go, often juking too much, or missing a small lane that he could've gone through if he made the right cut. But sometimes when there was a hole there, or he had a chance to make a move in the open field, his big play ability would show up and he would end up on Sportscenter. I think of the two styles, we may see more highlights of Miller because of his ability to find and get through the smallest of holes. Now, can he p/u blitzes, and hold up carrying the ball 15-20 times a game? We'll see, and that more than anything will determine his success this year.
Kansas State Wildcat fan here. I'm really excited to see what Miller does for us and if Daniel Thomas steps it up.
I agree, we are better on paper and we were 2 kicks from a 9-7 record. Tannehill has excited me more than any other QB for Miami in years, including Henne's first year.
I'm excited about Miller, but I think some posters are going a little too far (Edge?!?). It almost sounds like we had this top-20 RB on the roster and just chose not to play him or give him the ball. There are reasons he was a 4th-round pick, only got 50 carries, and was inactive for a few games. He's not consistent or versatile, isn't great catching out of the backfield, and can't pass protect. Even back in college he was never a 3-down player, very seldom used in shotgun, etc. Canes fans, myself included, will also tell you that he ran really soft after nicking his shoulder in 2011 and ran scared/overly protective, down on first contact. At this point I think you can optimistically expect that he's a 10-15 carry guy. But even then, he hasn't actually proven to be able to handle a consistent workload at this level (or in college, arguably), hasn't done much of anything in the League at this point - good games against Oakland and Buffalo don't scream 'stud' to me. Add this to the fact that DT's a bust and the other guys haven't done anything either, I'm hoping we draft a RB fairly high.
Hijack alert! When you get through watching Lamar - check out Reshad Jones highlights from 2012. Herein lies a lesson in the necessity of patience. There were a number of posters who were ready to through him overboard a chum at the end of his rookie season. Also, take a look at the tackle at 2:55 or so - a beautiful form tackle. I really hope players can get back to blocking and tackling correctly instead of just trying to lower the boom on someone. Lowering the boom on someone looks spectacular - but how many of those attempts have we seen give up first downs, long gainers, and/or touchdowns?
