Yep, I watched 10 Oregon games in their entirety this season...and 9 last season.
I like Kyle Long. Incredible athlete for a kid that size. My issue is that he has played all over the place. He is the kid without a true position to date. He has done "Reasonably" well every place they have put him, but I don't see him projecting to any particular position.....yet. That will of course change when he eventually settles into a particular position and is dedicated to learning that position.

That being said, if he is still available in like the latter part of the 3rd or early 4th, would love to see us take him......but don't be surprised to see him in Philly. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

I don't see how a lot of this isn't just the mythology of Andrew Luck, instead of the reality. There are some things yes, but the difference between Luck and Tannehill this year was largely what he was asked to do, not how he did it. Reggie Wayne didn't hurt, either.

neither did TY Hilton, Avery, and Dwayne Allen. unlike us they surrounded their franchise QB with as many weapons as possible right away and they were rewarded with a playoff berth.

really? explain to me what you meant then. you said this draft is deep at OL and we can find a guard and tackle after the 1st round.

I also really like Kyle Long. I think he will be a tough OG in the NFL. Some limitations but he can be pretty decent. Would love to grab him in round 3. I think we could pencil him in as a starter day 1 at RG.

Would love to sign Winston, draft Long.

Would also have loved to sign Osi or Abraham ... but those ships have sailed, unfortunately.

I think once Joe Toledo is back from
injury he has the potential to become a very good starter for us.

Seriously though, if we don't nab a vet before the draft, I think we could see a trade up to select a LT... Except Martin looked worse on the right side.

That's the real issue. We can't trust him on the left... And don't want him on the right.

At the least, I expect we get a second to fourth round OT to compete at RT and as a fail safe backup at LT.

Justin Pugh, Brian Winters, for example...either one could start at RT as a rookie. Alvin Bailey, Larry Warford, Hugh Thornton, for example, any one could start at guard. I'm not so sure they are looking all that hard at replacing Jerry at RG anyway. If you cared to do a little research you would find out he was 21st best pass blocking guard in the league out of 72 who played in at least 25% of their team snaps. With Richie being 7th best, that gives us one of the better pairs of pass blocking guards in the league. There are better pairs, I'm sure, but far many more who are worse, considering there are 64 starting guards at any given time and both ours are in the top one third.

Yeah, he's unsigned. I am just doing some assuming here. Would love to still land him but I think after the Dumervil signing (and Osi) that Abraham's stock will jump a bit for teams that missed on those (perhaps Denver or a couple of others) and we won't want to pay as much as a bonafide contender will do for this one year guy.

I have to think that if the Fins wanted one of those guys they would have signed them. If they didnt sign them they didnt do it for a reason. I mean I would love it if the Fins could sign every player that is best at his position but that isnt realistic. IMO the Fins are looking for players that fit both on the field and fiscally.

Menelik Watson is a second round type OT as is Terron Armstead. I also like Brennan Williams who is going to be a starter as a rookie if he is healthy. If not someone if going to get a steal for a guy that is going to be a player down the road.

As for the OG's you forgot Long as a 2nd round type guy that could be a starter as is David Bakhtiari...

The reality of it is that it is not uncommon to pull OL starters later in the draft

Certainly agree. I think a big part of all this is age. They were aggressive early with young players (even seemed more interested in Dumervil at age 29). I suspect they are sticking to a formula (don't over spend on older players but go after guys who will be at their peak for 3-4 years).

I also suspect Abraham is asking a good bit and that other teams closer to competing for a title will offer the most.

But, I'd love for Miami to sign Abraham to a 2 year deal and let him be a specialist. The reality is, specialists are much more important in this league than in the past. I think as a 50% player (mostly passing downs) he could be really good for a couple of years (extend his career).

That said, they do have to spend some money. According to one report that are $14 M under and have $7 M coming June 1. That $7 M will be a wash with the draft. But, need to do something to get to the league floor. But, they may have cap issues moving forward as well ...

And, the value of getting a couple of players in there (Winston at OT; Abraham; Grimes) is that it gives them more flexibility in this draft.

And, I think the OL is more critical for veteran signings because protecting Tannehill so that he can perform his best is crucial not only for this year but also for his confidence going forward.

I'd love to see us add those 3 players in free agency. It would open up the draft to any possibility then. We could draft totally for value over need all the way through.

All good choices too. Williams as a RT if his shoulder is healed would be as likely plug and play as anyone. Bakhtiari would be an ideal zone blocking guard.

Completely agree. The draft would be pretty fun then (especially if they landed Austin in the 1st round. I'd feel like all the rest would be gravy! That would probably be the most fun I'd have had for a draft in ... well ... ever!).

Honestly, I'd rather see us draft a pass rusher than to go out and sign Abraham.

I'm sure they would too, but there are other considerations. They don't want to spend too many resources on what will end up being a Nickel package guy or push Olivier Vernon on the back-burner unnecessarily too, so signing a short-term option might be better.

I looked at Bakthiari and I saw a LT with great feet, not a Guard. If Martin is kept at RT I'd have Bakthiari on my radar for LT.

I would be very surprised if Martin was not the starting LT next year… Very… I have confidence he is going to address his weight room issues...

The only two guys that are out there right now that I would want to see them sign are Winston and Grimes… other then that I am blah… Could be the Fins are holding some money back so that they are in position to sign a player that shakes loose after the draft.

I think Martin was drafted to play LT for us. I think they just put him at RT last year because Jake was still here and he could get some game experience.

This is not out of the realm of disbelief, but what is the plan for RT now that Martin has been moved (either by hook or crook) to LT...that is burning question for many of us...Yeatman may have improved, but do they really think he's ready ?? Is Nate Garner a guy you'd want to go into the season as your starting RT ?? How high on the draft list do they go to get a more valid replacement...unless they go in the first or early second round, what we get is likely not much better than what we have.... And if they do go in early in the draft, doesn't that take away the possibility for a play-maker at either DE, CB, TE or WR ??

Agree with your observations. I still hold out hope that they would sign Winston to a moderate deal. I know some don't like him and he's not going to dominate. But, he could still be a good player and we might then be able to draft an OT in the middle rounds (3-5) who could compete and might become a starter by next year. Winston gives them assurance so they don't have to reach or trade up.

There is also, imo, a need at OG in this draft.

I too think that Martin could become a decent LT if he really works to reshape his body and improve his technique. He needs to make a big jump this year. I hope he has been working out.

I'd still like to see Winston in the fold, too. Then picking a guard within the top 5 picks would be fine with me. I just wonder if its more than just a difference in worth that is keeping them from signing Winston?

Little off topic but thought this was funny as hell. My dufus neighor said Long was having his press conference up there on Thursday. He directed me to a forum and almost spit up my soda when I read the first response to the news of St. Louis introducing Long. Its funny as hell. Also sad to say its true.

I'm fairly certain they are a bit more than flirtatious in regards to Winston(and Moore), but they've got a lot of leverage and are in a position to use it.

Why do you think they have a lot of leverage over those guys? I guess those guys aren't getting any really great offers, but it's not like they are guys who may not have jobs next year.

They will likely be employed, but they can easily end up being underemployed relative to their merits. That is a possibility, and becoming a stronger one for both players. Winston's agent basically said he wants to play for Miami, which isn't really suggesting he's got loads of options at this time.

You are going to have to point the bolded part out to me.

Did he say "Miami" exclusively, or just that he want to play in Miami, as well as hell, anywhere.

The latter wouldn't mean much of anything. The former would be painting his client into a corner and would NOT be a wise stance.....

    Oh, old double talk Drew.

I think, translated, this means. “Eric would really like to play for the Miami Dolphins as long as we can break the bank,” Rosenhaus said. “What a terrific financial fit.”

The next time Drew does anything with the better interest of the Dolphins in mind, will be the first time.

Just the same today when I heard Albert Breer ask Dumervil why he signed with Balt. Breer gave him like 2-3 multiple choice answers, to select from, but none of them were they offered the most guaranteed money. Like duh, how ******* dumb do they think fans are who listen to this?

LOL, a lot of fans actually eat that stuff up man. Sometimes its sad when you think about it. You know, perusing around. Rams are tight, super tight against the cap now. There is rumor Harvey Dahl who is scheduled to make 4 million ( not guaranteed ) may just become a cap casuality shortly after the draft. I know he is not a teenager but he is a decent guard and he did fill in admirably at RT for the Rams when needed.
