Here's what I think of the logo. Don't care if it's a yellow and orange polka dotted oompa loompa as long as the dudes wearing it are wearing it into late January and February. Happy there, champ?

I'm sitting here looking over the helmets for comparison. If I had to rank this "new" logo among the current NFL's, I wouldn't put it in the top 25 to be honest b/c it's neither really cool nor traditional, and I wouldn't put it ahead of all the teams that've maintained traditional integrity even if they do look boring like the Colts & Bears. I'd rather be traditional and boring than be different just for the sake of difference. To me the "new" logo looks too professional; it doesn't scream, "This is the logo of a football team". It looks like a logo for a tanning salon, perhaps something like Tropical Tanning.

Re: Miami Dolphins New Logo Thread

This post and this thread reminded me that MLS teams are contracted with adidas to change their uniforms every two years. Logos stay the same, but uniforms get revamped. I'd like to see that in the nfl, only with a five year cycle.

I'm not a fan at the moment. I see that and think, "Humpy the blind dolphin". The white spot is supposed to be an eye? Why couldn't they just keep the classic jumping pose? At first glance, this does NOT seem like an improvement.

Having said all that, I will wait to see if this is offical -and I want to see the entire new look. An improved uniform would help, and the logo might look better on a real helmet.

What's interesting is all the other tradition-rich & SB winning teams that were prominent during the early NFL through the 70's (Packers, Chiefs, Colts, Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, Vikings) are all pretty much maintaining a traditional look (ditto for the multi SB winning Niners & Giants); meanwhile the only undefeated team in NFL history and with back to back SB wins appears to be diverting from tradition as if we're ashamed of it, that is, if Miami is indeed sticking with this leaked logo design, dropping the orange from the uniform, and adding the extra color or colors depending if the number outlines are black or navy. I can understand the Pats & Bucs changing it up b/c their histories weren't much to write home about, but that's not the case with Miami.

IMO it's a slap in the face of our '72 & '73 teams b/c if that uniform & logo was good enough for Csonka to wear then it should be good enough for every subsequent generation as well; hell, it should be a privilege. Could you imagine the Packers organization saying, "You know, we've been doing this whole G as the logo deal and green & yellow team colors for too long now so it's time to add in a random, unassociated color and change the logo to either a piece of cheese or an intertwined GB, just for the heck of it". That fan base would be fur-i-ous! lol. However, to half this fan base, tradition seems to mean as much as a fart in the wind. my 2 cents.

I'll also throw out the argument that players today, while arguably stronger, bigger, and faster than the players of the Phins heyday in the 70's don't have the heart those players did. I say they don't deserve to wear the same logo as Zonk, Kooch, and the rest of the hard-asses that played in the 70's...

The old-school logo should be a privilege, one that our players should be proud to wear once in a while. This is a new era, let's embrace it with a new logo and save the throwbacks for times when we are honoring the players of the past.

Funny you should say that, because back in 94 the Packers almost did exactly that. They were going to replace the cheese yellow with a unique shade of metallic gold and ditch all helmet, jersey, and pant stripes. Given how the Packers keep flirting with all these throwback uniforms that incorporate metallic gold, I don't think the idea of entirely dead. I can certainly see them doing something not unlike what the Spartans did.

Have you seen how many logos we've had? Yeah, they've been variations on the same thing, but our previous logo was a more radical departure than what our new one is. Also, to be perfectly honest, the logos we had through 95 were the very definition of bad design; they were impossible for a (artistically talented) child to faithfully recreate. Further, I think you're underestimating the impact that a complete identity overhaul can have for the on-the-field product.

Oh stop it. The logo from the 72/73 era had already been drastically changed 15 years ago. This change does no more disservice to tradition than the last version did.

And the reason those other teams don't have to change their logo is because their logos were solid from the beginning...ours was not. Ours was amateurish and weak. It was total amateur hour with that logo from a technical production standpoint and from conceptual standpoint. You take the logos you talk about and put them in line with any of our logos, and put aside blind homerism and there is no way ours belongs with those from a look standpoint. Our logo has always been one of the worst in the NFL (only the old Pats and Bucs were worse...barely). The only reason it sucked when it was changed 15 years ago and this one still sucks, is because tradition hounds won't let it be a complete redo.

In fact, the best thing we can do to honor tradition, is to separate from those great teams of the past so they can stand on their own and not be eclipsed by anything going forward...good or bad.

If people don't like the new logo that's fine (I don't love it, but at least its not wearing a tard helmet). But saying its because of tradition, when the logo had already been drastically changed from the glory days of the franchise, is ridiculous. Basically, you're saying we can't change the logo because it disrespects the tradition of the Jimmy/Wanny years....c'mon.

Who cares if a uniform was good enough for Csonka to wear? Honestly people. You get so invested in clothing. I'm 100% interested in logo's, uni's and helmets, etc. I think change can be good. I'm stoked to see what the Dolphins come up with. But to say it's a slap in the face of the 72 Dolphins may be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. All those old wind bags do is slam the organization anyway. Screw them. Where's their loyalty? Go live in a cabin and drink champagne by yourself and hate the organization on your own time. They show no loyalty and their spewing of nonsense doesn't do anything to help or hurt the organization. Second of all, if you want to relate changing a uniform to winning, look at the Patriots. New uni's, new logo, new QB (Bledsoe), the winning started. So if you want to play that dumb game, then they should change. I'm pretty sure Patriot fans weren't screaming "John Hannah played with Pat the Patriot, that's a slap in the face of the 86 Patriots to change the logo." Dumb arguement.

I found it interesting that when the poster at Finheaven took the pic and put it on a helmet, he used multiple tail positions b/c that jersey pic covered up the tail and he apparently didn't know about the original leak with the tail up. Then all the comments below that post that I saw said that the tail up pose was the one that looked the best on the helmet. IMO the complaint about the tail up pose is one of those that people resisting change have latched onto to complain about, but if there was no original logo just two new logos side by side many of those same people would prefer the new one. Personally I didn't care for the new pose until I saw it on a helmet (not the one the Finheaven guy did, an earlier one using the first leak). I think the new pose fills the space on the helmet better and implies more forward, more aggressive motion. I wouldn't call our logo aggressive, (it's a dolphin!), but I would say its more aggressive than our old logo. And thank god the helmet on the dolphin is gone!

no, they aren't. The colors/shading and sunburst and eye are all different. Also, Omar commented just prior to, or without knowledge of the newest "leak", then upon seeing the newest image, he said he hated it or something like that. That was all Omar said, and I think he is holding to Mike Dee's line of the previous leak being false, and not commenting on the newest leak (with the changes listed) at all.

But they DIDN'T. The Packers are strong on tradition and do a good job maintaining it, as they should when their history includes a team coached by Lombardi.

Yes, and that fits in with my point about Miami caring more about change than tradition. The organization has a chance to right the wrong that was done in the 90's but they seem more intent on drifting further away from tradition.

They were going for pretty much the same thing they had, only the dolphin has different detail, no helmet, and a different position. If you think it sucks, you must have thought the old one really sucked. It's the same damn thing only not as silly. I can 100 % guarantee that if you had never seen either the new or current logo, you'd pick the new one. Yall will come around eventually. You did enough to think the current one is worlds better than the new one !

The teams that made drastic changes feature both the old and new helmet logos (Pats, Broncos, Bucs). I don't think the Ravens count b/c they changed it shortly after the team's inception.

Then why did we just honor that team last year?
The history & tradition thing is way overrated in your opinion. Don't forget that underlined part WADR, as you don't speak for all of us. You might could care less about Miami's only perfect season and our 9 Hall of Famers who spent much or all of their careers sporting a traditional looking logo & jersey, but many of us do.

It's been changed since the 90's. How about we actually do the opposite and revert back to tradition for a change.

What a ridiculous straw argument man. Are you seriously trying to parallel a team that never won a SB and has no real history worth mentioning to ours? What a joke, man. That's more appropriately deserving of "the dumbest thing I've ever heard" label. Nice backward logic by the way. The Pats were a non SB winning organization so they changed everything and started winning. For all intents and purposes of this debate, I'll play along with your silly notion that their uni & logo change were responsible for their turnaround. If the Pats were a no-winning organization that changed and subsequently started winning, then logically that would mean a winning organization like Miami that previously underwent change in the 90's and hit a skid should revert back to tradition to spark up the winning ways rather than move further along into change when change has YET to do the organization good? Cmon man, simple logic here.

If you're so uninvested in clothing then why do you care more about seeing it change, as well as resort to infantile, derogatory remarks toward those who care about maintaining tradition? BTW, as far as your remark goes, I'm invested in football tradition, not clothing; it's the fans like yourself seeking change who are the ones more wrapped up in clothing.

1st of all you changed your original post... at no age and not even with infinite wisdom could one have interpreted that you prefer the white facemask from your original post.

You made a sarcastic comment to my admittedly silly, half *** attempt to prove a point to another poster. I posted a gif to get a laugh and basically portray (*primarily myself) as a nerdy dolphin fan. I could see how I made it seem directed at you, and understand you didn't appreciate it. No hard feelins bud.

I'm all about the white facemasks, had mentioned earlier that it would be the best change of all. It's going to be simply beautiful.

For the most part I prefer change over tradition.

They did a decent job of righting the wrong done in the 60s with a pretty bad logo. I don't know whose bright idea was it to add those weird markings inside of the logo.

I do like how the new logo looks a lot less like a Ninja Turtle or Pokemon character.

In my life I have found that tradition is used more as an excuse to be a jerk.
