He never said that. So your 2 biggest points in this thread are based on arguments no one made. Bravo.
WOW again. Just wow. You realize high school recruits are ranked by numerous services right? ..... and guess what-- I know this will come as a shocker to you but many of these top recruits actually.get.drafted. I know right- Mind.Blown. Bottom line is Youtube is right there at a scout's fingertips. If all there is on a young player is a freshman highlight clip, then why wouldn't a scout click on it to get a cursory idea of that player if he's never seen or noticed that player before?
Can you give me a source to show that he attended three games? And that they were all for Tavon Austin? And that he set up multiple meetings with Tavon Austin? You can post them here, or PM them to me, because we're reaching the brink of irrelevance in an irrelevant thread. Mind-numbing. Keep in mind that they were all prior to signing Mike Wallace, too.
So Rivals works for the Miami Dolphins? I clearly stated that there were separate scouts for high school, college, and the NFL. If you think that Miami Dolphins scouts are checking out defensive ends at a high school in Dallas to replace Wake, I think we're just about done.
He arrived at the conclusion that I'm in no position to define scouting based on the fact that I do not participate in that forum. My second point, regarding yourself, was based upon a previous encounter. You wouldn't remember. You do too much of "this" to recall particular instances.
You started the high horse crap right from the get-go. hahaha. You mean other than Ireland scouting WVU 3 times this year, sending 3 scouts to watch his pro day, and then us having Austin scheduled for a personal workout? You're right, other than that we've had no connection.
Nope. I don't need to hold your hand. Can you show a source that: - Shows anyone here saying highlight video is shows more than game tape? - That Phinsational said that because you don't go into the draft forum, that highlight video is better than game tape? - That pro scouts don't follow kids in high school. - That you know anything at all.
Yup, we've seen them, we enjoy them for what they are, some watch the games to scout, some don't have that kind of time, we don't have to be a douche when someone wants to talk about a prospect with a highlight video, obviously you haven't learned that about this board.. The OP was not posting a video because he was crowing about how he was breaking down the player, he just wanted to talk about the player, and is excited about the chance of drafting him. Wth is your problem, like really, what is it?
What's with you and that smiley? Why are you happy all the time? Anyway, why don't you get off Fin D and help him with the source I requested.
I've told you what my problem is. There are highlight videos for every player, and they're all equally impressive. How many times and ways do I need to explain it? If you don't get that, then my problem is with you.
Well there's the problem....you think highlights are just all exactly the same. No wonder you don't know dick about any of this.
You took it wrong...I was obviously talking about how cool it would be to have an awesomely produced highlight video as a memory of your college career, and how there might be an angle in production services to capitolize on the draft prospects..as in there are so many bad ones and that one was really cool and well done, the music, the editing, the clarity..I think there could be a market for that..
No, if you've been spending ANY time in the draft forum you'd see we've already spent PLENTY of time discussing and breaking down Austin's game that has NOTHING to do with a highlight film. So basically, you've shown up late to the party but for some reason feel compelled & justified to criticize us for something you're clueless about. Here, notice the date on post #23 in the below link and the attached names who thanked it (Sebo & DJ) who obviously watched the clips. There's more where that came from BTW. Yup, we're just a bunch of highlight-watchin' idiots here. http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?74812-Tavon-Austin-A-Metrics-Breakdown/page2
Then I genuinely apologize. I don't really think that there's a market for it, based on how many people are willing to produce these videos for free, and that I don't really see any value in a perfectly produced montage....but if that's what you meant, then I took it wrong. I'm sorry. It's a good highlight reel, and it showcases what he is capable of in certain situations, but it's not at all representative of him as a player. The internet is a tricky place, and I take responsibility in misunderstand your statement. You're a good guy.
Great. I have no doubt that you have properly scouted Austin. You even have a .gif as your signature. It's nice. I stated off the bat that I'd be ok with taking him #12. Notice what forum it's in, though. Right? I think we agree that highlight videos are for entertainment purposes. Tavon is a good player, and he has areas in which he can excel, as well as his deficiencies. Highlight videos are dangerous, because it's the creme de la creme. They'll give some people a false impression and create a civil war later on. It happens all the time. Let's face it, you and I have both rooted for eventual busts in the past. I just don't see the relevance of this to the main forum. There aren't even highlights for the stars that are actually on our team in the main. I really don't want to discuss it any further with you, because you seem more focused on hurling insults and profanities to attack me, rather than my argument. Maybe I'll head over to the draft forum to talk to you about Tavon Austin one of these days, though. I really want to know where Fin D and yourself heard that Ireland went to three of his games and set up multiple visits. I'm not being facetious here, but I really want to know if the interest is serious. The only related thing I was able to uncover on google was Ireland attending the WVU-Syracuse game, which is hard to connect because it happened 3 months ago, and he could've been scouting any player on any team; to say it was for Austin is a huge stretch. As far as visits, it was all done prior to signing Wallace & Gibson. I want to know if the potential interest is still there, or if the visits are doing due diligence on a 1st round pick.
Logic, do you possess it in this thread? Why would Ireland attend multiple WVU games for any player OTHER than the 1st round regarded Austin? What's the benefit of that? Isn't our 1st round selection the most important of all picks. <that's rhetorical> So then why would Ireland spend his valuable time scouting WVU games other than for Tavon when there's only a finite number of weeks in a college season to scout potential 1st round prospects like he did with Tannehill last year? Why would Ireland choose WVU's bowl game vs Syracuse over Texas-Oregon St when, outside of Tavon Austin, Texas-Oregon St had a greater number of top prospects including Alex Okafor, Kenny Vaccaro, Markus Wheaton, all talented players at positions of need? Riddle me that, smarty pants. Was he just taking in the sights I suppose?
What in the holy hell did I just spend 10 minutes during March Madness reading? I want to take my ball and go home.
Damn, I not even an NFL scout and I watch high school clips to jumpstart my familiarity with college kids so that I better know who to follow. These NFL scouts you speak of must really be lazy then. ridiculous statement that has no point whatsoever. It's a nice straw one I give you that.
BZZZT, wrong. I arrived at the conclusion that you're in no way shape or form entitled to criticize others for allegedly doing nothing but "watching highlight reels" when you in fact spend NO TIME in the draft forum to know what we have or haven't already discussed and based decisions off of in order to qualify your absurd statement.
I'm not smiling; I'm laughing at your ignorance in this thread. The sources have already been stated. We don't have to show them to you for their existence to be validated. You want 'em? Go find them yourself.
and how many times do we have to say that we've already spent time breaking down his tape over and over and discussing him ad nauseam? so then exactly WHAT is your problem with enjoying his highlight film for what it is? Do you also hate All Star games, slam dunk competitions, ESPN's top 10 countdown, and gratuitous sex scenes since they, too, aren't the real thing either?
Damn strait we do mister move this thread to the proper forum, especially when people can't comprehend what is being said and chooses to take shots.. It's about understanding where the poster is coming from and how he's presenting it, before you whine and complain.. The mods here do a great job, why don't you let them take care of what goes where, and just try to focus on the excitement of the original poster.
You're still bent out of shape about me "thanking" a post that recommended this thread be moved yesterday? Good lord, some people take the net far too seriously. And on a related note, look at this knee slapper I got as a rep comment:
Right... but you went on this criticizing rant b/c of us enjoying Tavon's new highlight clip for entertainment purposes. A little hypocritical, no? It's now draft time, that's why...... and b/c Tavon is linked to Miami, so doesn't that make him "Dolphins relevant"? Why would we send 3 scouts to watch WVU's pro day and then have Tavon scheduled for a private workout if the interest isn't legitimate? The WVU-Syracuse game was the LAST WVU game of the year, and it was on the same day as a few other big bowl games. Why would Ireland choose that specific game over Texas-OregonSt, Mich St-TCU, VaTech-Rutgers, Baylor-UCLA? It makes little logical sense for Ireland to pass on watching a plethora of talented players among those games in order to watch WVU-Syracuse for reasons other than Tavon Austin.
I think the problem is, a poster made a harmless thread on a slow news day and it starts getting attacked, not because of the content, but because people feel its silly to have this thread here (its not) and/or stupid to be excited by a highlight video (its not). Then, some of the same people have to get attitudinal and insulting simply because others don't agree with those attacks. Then, the same poster that decided to attack this thread for no reason, sends a long winded and insulting PM some people of the very thing that person did in this thread which is be antagonistic. All of that for why? Because someone had the audacity to post a highlight reel of a potential draft target.
Alright, but I think some of that is quite an overstatement. We have a comment that says "everybody looks good in a highlight videos" another that says "Highlight video is highlight video" and another that reads "This really belongs in the draft forum, no?" The last example was even "liked" by a forum moderator so I doubt he took it as an attack. None of that seems attacking to me - it's not as though OP was bombarded with posts that read in an aggressive manner or were out of line. Seems blown out of proportion to me, but it's an internet forum and I'm letting it go. If OP felt attacked that's all that matters.
spammers gonna spam, Deej. I actually enjoyed the highlight clip. Not often we see 'em filmed that way. Thought it was well done.
Did you skip over the rest where that same poster goes on rant criticizing other posters for supposedly using a highlight clip as a scouting tool as if we've done nothing but watch highlight clips of Austin, or others for that matter?
I thought we were referring to the portion that started this to begin with, that started this line of conversation. The other parts were in response (I believe, I did not read pg 2) to you and the other two, but not directed toward OP (which Fin D mentioned was being attacked). Oh well.
No worries, Jay. I only wanted to know your intention first before jumping to any conclusions. Welcome to the forum BTW.
Welcome. Stick around, man. There is a lot of good information in this forum, and it's not always like this.
This is my last post on it. And I'm only doing it, in an attempt to improve communication on this board in the future. I just don't see the reason of A) saying this isn't the right forum & B) acting like highlight videos are stupid to post. I mean if we are told on one hand that these videos are for entertainment purpose only and not scouting, then why are we told the videos should be in the draft forum only? Its more or less contradictory and needless...to the point I think its fair to question the motives of the people posting it. Then instead of being non douchey, the insult assault has to happen for no damn reason causing this harmless thread to spiral out of control. I challenge you to go back and see where this escalated. I think you'll find the insults started flowing from a source not me, DJ or Phinsational. The insulting begins at post 51.
