Miami Dolphins New logo/uniforms Thread

I do everything.

I have an autocad design business.

I am an assistant producer on TV.

Those uni's as you described them, sound like ****.

 

Somehow I find that second one very tolerable.

The Orange stripe gives off a Buffalo Bills-y feel though.

 

I really like their look, but I know I'm just one man with an opinion. Who knows.

 

The product on the field dictates the culture first and foremost.

 

I'm with you on this.

 

That'a my opinion too. We could have the best looking uniforms in the league, which IMO we've had since 1966, and they do not help or hinder the team's onfield success. We could have uniforms as plain as Penn State, with just the primary color changed to aqua, and if the team has enough talent they'll win.

All this talk of a uniform change bringing a new aura or culture, whatever, means zip without good players.

 

It also can be said that it does not have to be modernized. You father and grandfather can also agree. That does not mean we would hate the team if it is done right...

Love those whites. They look so damn classy.

But a blue may be interesting. We know they are not going back so might as well try to be positive on something. Blue... Interesting... Who knows.

 

I'm in agreement on just going back to the 72 Uni's. but of these 2 the logo on the right is the best of the new logo I've seen. But there is no navy on it so that's probably not it, I wouldn't mind going back to grey facemasks for our helmets either.

 

I like it too, though I'd like it more if they got rid of the eye, made the belly a light gray and return the facemasks to the same gray.

The color on the right is sweet. But yeah, I think the angle is for a new color (navy) with the intention of marketing a very distinct scheme fans must have for the future of of the new franchise. No more getting away with oldies but Goldies.

 

Most shops are still on Autocad 2007 - 2011. So no.

Don't want to even bother learning a new interface.

I know this is a dead horse but

IMO, it's completely stupid not to have gray in the logo and unis.

It's the color of the animal and his perfectly with the existing color scheme

I would guess that involves tons of cleanup with annotation and stuff.
I charge 23 dollars an hour. I probably can't compete in short term... but I can save money ultimately.

Yeah feel ya. Most, if not all of my stuff is on CAD, but I am getting more and more requests for BIM, especially on commercial type projects. I see the appeal and the advantages for the subs, but it looks challenging as hell.

Interesting. I wonder why they'd still be tweaking the logo when they put it on a helmet and a jersey for a photoshoot, amongst other things...

I love listening to it, have no fu&$in clue what y'all are talking about, but I wish I had some of it.

 

I'm a graphic designer. If they are unveiling this in ~3 weeks now, there is no way this isn't finalized. in fact, this was probably finalized before the season was over. You can't still be tweaking, especially with the chain of command it must go through to get approval. After clearing all the Dolphins brass, it has to make it to the NFL for their marketing people and such as well. Anyone not thinking it's final is wishful thinking. As many people here have already said, old school vs new school is pretty much how the dolphins organization has been looking at this since day 1.

Also, anyone that likes the logo with the off kilter, two colored sun, that's one of the worst logos I've seen so far. It would be a nightmare to print, especially in small sizes. Imagine that thing at the top of NFL.com, it would look like a blurry paint swatch or something shrunk to that size. When creating a logo, especially for something like the NFL, it has to look good gigantic on billboards, and good microscopic on the top of web pages. it has to look good in black and white for newspapers. it has to have few colors so it's easy to screen print on clothing. it has to have large chunks of color so that it can be embroidered on polos.

 

Maybe they're trying to print several different ones to see which looks better. ???????

The NBA actually has a larger branding, licensing and sales arm than the NFL, and twice have the Miami Heat had to redo and scrap alternate uniforms a month out and re-design.

In 2006, they proposed to the League a "White Hot" uniform, that got rejected for the playoffs, but allowed for the regular season if they changed the trim to black instead of silver.

They mothballed it, scrapped it, and released them this year with the black trim.


The NBA re-designed their christmas day uniforms to change the trim on the numbers and name 21 days before gameday. You can still find the "un-released" ones on ebay.

 

you are talking about one day special event jerseys and alternate jerseys. I'm sure these have a little more wiggle room. How embarrassing would it be if during the draft, nfl network was forced to use old dolphin logos in their commercial bumps or in their on screen scrollers because their graphic design team wasn't given the updated logo in enough time?

"Hey we changed the jersey colors from white to grey, last minute decision"
"okay, give the players the new jerseys and put the old ones on ebay as RARE so they fetch more money"

"Hey we changed logos, we are still the heat, but our colors and logo are different"
"okay get us the updated logos to change in all the in game graphics, get the new colors for the scoreboard overlay, change the logo on all the scoreboards and signage outside the stadium, make sure the press kits are updated with the new logo, make sure we have a template to paint the field... etc."

logos are much further reaching than an alternate one time jersey.

 

Hey everybody in this thread, I stopped paying attention about 100 pages ago. Can someone summarize where we are with this new logo?

 

Everyone hates or loves it. But we aren't sure of what we hate or love about it.

And no one knows for sure if "it" is real or fake.

I think the "embarrassment" you speak of could be less a factor then enraging a fan base that is finally in a better place. Point being, depending on the client's goals its certainly possible that the logo is not finalized yet. I'm also a graphic designer, btw.

Besides, if they are at the point where they are just tweaking colors or minor details, then 99.9% of the people won't know the difference between the tweaked or a pre-tweaked logo, especially if its color, since as you know, color is dependent on the media used and the environmental lighting relative to where its viewed.

For those that don't know:
All color on a TV or computer screen is built off of RGB (Red, Green, Blue). Meaning every color you see on those is made up of varying levels of red, blue and green.

Virtually all color printing is built off of CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black) There are what are known as spot colors and various specific colors like Pantone. For example, the red Coke uses belongs to them and his unique.

There are other color recipes HSB, etc. But the two above are the majority. Anyway, many colors created in RGB cannot be reproduced exactly in CMYK and vice versa. Also, individual monitor/tv settings change how we see color and the lighting in the space we are in changes it to. If you view a color on a piece of paper inside it will be a different shade outside. You don't realize it, but if you could view them at the same time the colors would be noticeably different.
