There is one pet peeve that i have since the patriots became such a dynasty and that is they always have draft picks and they always seem to be given the wide open path to the super bowl. I have come to the conclusion that if teams wold stop trading with the Pats they wouldn't always be crowned afc east champs before the season even starts. We cant do anything about that but I think its a shame that so many teams are willing to help them with trades its almost a given for the media to crown them. Miami wasted 12 years of using cheap labor to build a team to compete with the pats and the result was zilch so now it looks like we might be doing something positive about getting to the point of being a play off team. Regardless of King Bill and his greatness I think his throne is about to taken away. but back to passing the patriots we need to keep adding talent even at runningback , tightend , and at all the positions and make the compitition really tough and only the best survives. This was why I have been disapointed in wrs Bess and Hartline and the fans settle for players like that . A Steeler fan said it once before if teams would stp dealing with them New England would not be the media darlings and Miami might be able to pass them but it has been our downfall that Wanny , Cam Cameron and Tony Sparano would take the worst available plyers instead of the talented players.
I think Aquafin is actually sober tonite..lol Jk man..I actually agree with you about adding a high level amount of talent to the tight end and running back position. I say that because conceptually I envision the perfect offense that I want, with the parts that we have, and I'm missing three important pieces, basically those three missing skillsets are summed up by the players in this draft that we could attack and get two...Tavon..Tyler..Eddie.. Stretching the field vertically and horizontally oozes for a talented big power back who can catch and has good feet, this, Eddie freakin Lacy will pound people if given any space to work with, in the open field with his signature spin move, his ability to jump cut outside requires a lot of talent..If we're gonna run spread and some zone read, the combination of Miller and Lacy with the speed of Wallace shrinking the box, could be hardcore, not just finess, not with Lacy, this is an aggressive back with a lot of talent, I just want to keep that element in the identity that we got someone that will run you the fu&$ over, and your going to have to sacrifice how you want to get pummeled, quick death with Wallace, or stay back and let us pound you into submission. Next piece, Tyler Eifert and how he would fit perfectly in the middle of the field, this is not something we have at the moment, nothing except some Publix eggnog..The middle of the field is now open with the Wallace/Lacy power stretch concept, who better to dominate that area then the skillset that Eifert brings to the table..un matched in this draft, and imo if you don't get him, go elsewhere later, not the others, your just settling for 2nd best. Tavon Austin's talent needs no explanation in this type of offense, the perfect compliment to a Wallace skillset, if the game is all about winning space, then this is the player of the decade to do it..this dudes vision, with his speed and movement, is rare! he can run our screen game from the running back position, the draws, think Lamike James a bit in the backfield, but with sooooo much more..
Could always just copy them and go with two TEs that stretch the seams, replace Welker with the faster Hartline, and add Wallace instead of their rethread "burners". If you've got a big OL like that I'd want a much faster RB than Lacy.
the patriots are not a dynasty because of the multitude of picks, although that doesn't hurt. They are a dynasty because they have one of the greatest QBs of all time.
Greatest coach all time maybe he made Matt Cassel look good. I still think its a huge hit to his legacy never to win a sb after spy gate even though they have made 2 since. I mean I swear when the pats beat you down you feel like your losing to a bunch of scrub players. Hell even Welker had 100 catches and 1000 yards the year Brady was hurt.
We used to beat the Pats somewhat regularly................when we could rush the passer consistently. Hit Brady early and often and he gets rattled. So passrushers is the way to go.
This. If you let him get comfortable in the pocket he will pick you apart. I am pretty sure they know this and that is why we got a pair of LB's that can rush the passer as well as cover a TE.
Funny that the Giants did this 2x to win a SB and the Ravens did it in the AFC CG on the way to winning the SB. You get that pass rush up the middle and he is human.
The effect of that is overrated on a few levels, IMO. I remember back in September 2006 when they traded Deion Branch to the Seahawks for a 1st round pick the majority of Dolphin fans went into classic Henny Penny "The Sky is Falling!" mode because the big bad Patriots now had another first round pick, totally skipping by the fact that it made their WR Corp. quite a bit weaker. Flash forward to the AFC Championship game that year between the Colts and the Patriots, and there's Reche Caldwell dropping two probable TD passes that might have put that game out of reach and put the Patriots in the Super Bowl and a possible 4th championship. Think they were happy with their WR corp? The next year they went out and got Welker and Moss. That first round pick turned out to be Brandon Merriweather, who was little more than solid for them for a couple of years. All that dealing hasn't always paid dividends. Some of their drafts at the latter part of the past decade were pretty poor, and that's with having a dozen or so draft picks for some of those years. Some of the dealings that have turned out well did so because Bellichick has what many GM's don't: Balls. There's 30 other teams in the NFL that could have traded more than a 4th round pick for Randy Moss. Only Bill took that chance. Same goes for Aqib Talib. They've won because they have Tom Brady coupled with a coach that has vision and guts. Not everything has worked, but at the same time they're not bundled up in some risk-adverse cocoon, either. The problem isn't teams dealing with New England. The problem is that many of them don't play the game as well.
DJ that's an insult to Publix Eggnog which is pretty damn amazing, something that player is nothing close too.
Well, we whiffed on Avril and Michael Bennet, and overpaid Starks. Now we have to draft Austin to score.
How did we overpay for Starks? He hasn't been signed to a long-term contract yet. He was franchised for the purpose of keeping him away from free agency. He's stated that he's willing to give us a discount; it's up to us to lock him up.
We can't score without Austin? Lol...we signed a guy who averages 8-10 td a year without requiring a lot of targets like say a Marshall would require. We brought in Gibson who had 5 last year. How many tds would you expect Austin to score his rookie year? I'd say 3-6 so we ll only score when Austin gets in the redzone? Ridiculous post bro.
This. He also relies on his wrs to pick up yac yards more than any qb. He's the master Dink n dunk. I'm not saying Brady isn't a great qb but I have a tough time saying one of the greatest when he's in a system that made Cassell look like a pro Bowler. You out cassell on the pats and Brady on the chiefs and I think their numbers would be a lot more similiar than you'd expect when one qb stinks and the other is sooo great.
no arguing about that. I think some misinterpret part of what i was saying I am not drunk and Iwas only trying have a discusion on when and how the Pats could be passed by and have a freefall . I know Big Bill Belicheck is the top guru andyes Brady is a great player but I am saying is why trade with them For Instance if we had traded Welker to San Fran or to Green Bay that would not have hurt us as much as trading him to a division rivial. another point is , instead of Wes putting up great numbers there in NewEngland why couldn't we build our offense around him and have miami with a superstar instead of having two wrs that nobody with a good Mind would be scared to play every sunday ? I rather see Greenbay or even the Broncosin the super bowl then any afc east rivials.
Best way to beat Brady/NE is pressure... All the times we've beaten NE, that's always been the one constant. We hit Brady and sack him, we give ourselves a chance to win. We let him stand back there all day, we always lose. And lose big. For all the talk about WR's, TE's, etc... Maybe the most important sleeper position is DE. With Cam Wake, Odrick (inside), Starks, and a real RDE, I think our front four nickle package could really lay the lumber on opposing QB's. Which is why I would be happy to draft any very good DE/PR. I would even be willing to take Tank Carradine at #12 if the organization feels he won't fall into the 20's where a trade up from 2a could be made.
That was actually a courtesy on the Patriots part. Welker had a 2nd round tag on him. The Patriots were going to offer him a contract that the Dolphins wouldn't be able to match, but since Kraft and Huizenga were good friends they added in a 7th round pick. Perhaps the question you should be asking is why didn't Mueller spend a few bucks more and tender Welker at a higher compensatory level?
How do we pass the patriots? Well, father time is kind of getting the job done slowly. Brady's getting older every day and Im not convinced Amendola just steps in and does what Welker did for them 4 years straight (100+ rec, 1000yds). Their offense is now primarily dependent on an oft-injured Gronkowski. They'll still be good next year, great even, but I'm not convinced we won't have a shot at them. Course...it all really depends on tannehill...
And go where ? to London and start a new division ? Sure and we can call it the BRITISH Dolphins and when we play the patriots Brady can yell the dolphins are coming , the Dolphins are coming .
I agree that time is catching up to Brady and his body is not what it used to be. He is still very good and if he can adapt to the physical limitations that come with age he can continue to play at a high level for years to come. 1. As many as have already spoke on extensivily: Pass rush- Keeping Brady under pressure forces him to make mistakes and throw picks. This one area we have not really adressed yet but we are decent in this area. 2. Linebackers whith good good coverage skills to shut down his TEs.- IMO Wheeler and Elerbee are a step in that direction. I like both Burnet and Dansby but they got beat too often to not either replace or add help. TBH Im sort of hoping Dansby comes back at a much lower price. So far he hasnt gotten any nibbles in FA. 3. Aggresive CBs. who play for the ball. If you are smashing Brady in the mouth and shutting down his TEs then the ball is coming out fast and loose. We want guys playing for the Int. 4. Safetys to contain the damage when Brady gets a good pass off and our guys miss the tackle. PLaying aggressivily it is going to happen and there are times the Defense if going to get burned. If they can hold Brady in the low 20's then he is beatable. 5. Players like Woodhead is why I say I would like to see Dansby back. I think Dansby is a big part of our run stoppping. I think we will be OK without him but he was an asset on the field and one that I think will be missed. 6. Philbin vrs Belicheat: Im not saying Philbin is better coach overall but I think he is better at the Xs and Os part of it. I do not know why but I have this gut feeling that he isnt turning us into greenbay south as many think. I think he is going to put a new an unpredictable face on the team. JMO 7. The offense made so many changes its unpredictable to say how its going to turn out. I think we live or die on Tanny. Hopefully he makes a big improvement. 8. Miller hopefully lives up to the expectations they have for him. I think we have a very realistic chance of winning our division if we can split with the pats and one of the other two and sweep the other (if not both). as tough as the schedule is, they are making so many changes that teams are going to have a difficult time game planning around us and that could turn out to be the edge that puts us in 1st and the Pats looking for a wildcard birth.
