Well you let the cat out of the bag did you not? Vagina feet was hilarious btw, I saw that a few pages back.

Fortunately, I stopped playing video games a while ago. Let me tell you something, now that the weather is on the cusp of being nice, Boston Common will be the place to be with all the chicas sun bathing in bikinis.

I take that back...South Beach and Ultra this weekend ftw.

    Good work Az good work.

this is EXACTLY why we'd sign a guy like Gibson.

Can you see Marlon Moore getting 64 targets? R. Mathews? No.

Maybe Tavon Austin, but thats probably not happening now.

the way i see it, Gibson now makes our wr corp complete. Wallace, Hartline, Bess was definitely better then last year but we still needed another good player. Gibson is a good wr. we've got a strong core now with Keller at TE. Im not sure why everyone thinks we'l move bess now. I think the whole idea is to have 4 good wrs so they can all make plays. We're clearly not putting too much weight on our running game because we have zero proof miller is going to be able to handle it.

Well, I say that and then get to digging around some stats. Brandon Gibson was actually 7th among NFL receivers in WPA this year.

Here is a link to Brian Burke's definition of the WPA stat:

    http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010/01/win-probability-added-wpa-explained.html

I think what really props up Gibson's WPA is the fact that 83% of his receptions went for 1st downs, and something like 10 of his 51 receptions came on 3rd down and 7+ yards to go and converted first downs.

Those are some serious stats to have. Moving the chains, almost as much as scoring TD's wins games. Keeping the Defense fresh!!!

People in here crap on Bess and I still remember that season where he caught 50+ balls and the majority were for 1st down. Back on topic, what I hear about Gibson is that he has good hands and runs great routes. The FO and Philbin are clicking and setting up a GB type receiving corps.

So we basically signed the black Brian Hartline? Now 3 of our 4 receivers aren't big or fast or major red zone threats, great.

Why didn't we just sign Gibson on the cheap instead of giving Hartline 6 mil/yr?

He was actually 3rd in WPA/Game. He's further down the list on EPA and EPA/Game. EPA = Expected Points Added.

Oops. I did the stats including playoffs. In regular season only stats, Brandon Gibson was 6th in WPA. The 5 ahead of him were Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Vincent Jackson, Golden Tate, and Randall Cobb. He's also 6th in WPA/Game behind the same 5 guys.

Lol! You are on to something.

Tbh, I get a little upset with all the Bess hate in here. The guy was double covered quite a bit last year and that is telling. More importantly, he has the ability (as I outlined quite thoroughly in another thread) to perform on a Welker level.

Off topic, Csonka is my favorite Dolphins player and that avatar just cracks me up every time I see you post lolololol

KB, we were not high on Wallace, but we must admit that this receiving corps is shaping up quite well. The one difference I see from GB is Lamar Miller. Going out on a limb to a degree, but he could have a Marshall Faulk type of effect from the RB position with the weapons on the outside.

I'm starting to get a little optimistic about the amount of $$$ we gave him. Usually, agents are leaking that info out by now. The fact that it hasnt leaked yet would lead me to possibly believe that the deal isnt much to brag about?

Hopefully! If you're going to have Wallace you should at least take advantage of what he does for the rest of the team and that's open up the middle of the field. Get someone that can do something when he gets his hands on the ball. Hartline and Gibson aren't that. Austin would destroy teams with all of that open space.

What's glaring with this stat is that omits the running game. With Wallace and Hartline on the light side, adding Gibson may be as simple as adding a beefier player.

In a highlight video I watched, Gibson operated from the outside and seemed quite comfortable with his movement. Perhaps, a lesson Sherman/Philbin learned while transitioning to a fast-paced offense is the need for reliable WR that operate within the offense. I can see how opinions are mixed as doesn't make spectacular plays, but the game does seem to come to him. It would be interesting to find out if he does a lot of little things very effectively that keep the CB from locking-in when he's targeted. Or in other words, all the things you wouldn't/shouldn't expect a rookie WR to do.

It seems that after being stuck with only Hartline and Bess, otherwise left at the mercy of amateurs running routes with the game on the line, Irish is making sure a moment will not come where a competent WR is not on the field next season. It's the only reason I could fathom. This had better not be the end of Bess, who is widely admired by the fans and coaches alike. We got 3 guys who can ball well in their own style with Wallace, Bess, and Hartline, and now we add quality depth and that 4th wideout who frequents the field, who you can maybe trust in one on one on 3rd and 13....

    or so I hope.

I really don't know where we're supposed to get our YAC from with this WR group...out of 105 WRs in average yards after catch this year, we got Bess (ranked 45th), Hartline (76th), and Gibson (102nd). Wallace was tied for 45th with Bess but we all know Mike is an excellent RAC guy, we've seen him do it before, in 2011 he ranked 9th, 2010 he was 6th.

in 2011 Bess was 52nd. Hartline was 104th. Gibson was 92nd.

we're supposed to be the Green Bay offense? they had 2 receivers in the top 25 for avg YAC in 2012 (a banged up Jennings was 38th). in 2011 they had 2 guys ranked in the top 5 and 3 guys ranked in the top 15. in 2010 they had 3 guys ranked in the top 20.

so basically 3 of our top 4 WRs aren't breaking any tackles or juking anybody out of their cleats or doing any damage on a WR screen or running away from defenders. lol that's not good people...this offense needs a Patterson or Austin pretty badly

I have felt these would end up being our biggest needs once draft arrives since the Dolphins signed Wallace on day one of free agency. If Long remains in Miami, I think it will be a DE or CB with the Dolphins first round pick. If Long signs elsewhere, I think the Dolphins will spend their first round selection on an offensive lineman.

I totally agree. Now all the pressure shifts to Tannehill. He is no longer a rookie and he can no longer have the excuse that he doesn't have talent around him on offense. He is now expected to lead the Dolphins to the playoffs, just as Luck, RG3, and Wilson did last year as rookie QB's in the NFL.

Tannehill certainly has the skill set to be a quality QB. He now has the offensive play makers to help him develop into the QB he is expected to be. The coming season should certainly answer a lot of questions in regards to Tannehill's ability as an NFL QB. I believe he has it in him to lead this team to the playoffs. Now he just has to show this ability on the field on a consistent basis in 2013.

This is the first time I have been this excited about a Dolphin team in a long time. As much as I have been negative in regards to Ireland. I have to give him a lot of credit for these signings so far in free agency. Now if he can just have a draft which will provide the Dolphins with some quality starters for the next several years, I will have to consider taking back all the negative comments I have made about Ireland over the past few years.

My view is that the Dolphins still have to make the playoffs in 2013 for Ireland to keep his job, but it appears their chances of being a playoff team continue to improve with every signing they have in free agency. Hopefully Jake will be willing to return for the money the Dolphins offer him. If not, the offensive line looks like it could be a major area of need when the draft comes around next month.

GB made these receives what they are. When drafted none of them were superstar status like Fitzgerald or Megatron or Green. These are just working class type receivers who played good football. None of them were burners, none of them could beat any DB down the field with their blazing speed. I like what our receiving corps is turning out to be. Regular guys that play good football. Put enough of them on the field and one of them will be open most times. It takes corners out of the box, it forces safetys to not come up to the LOS. I like all our recievers and throw in a fast as hell Wallace and decent TE in Keller ? LOL, we keep RT clean this is going to be a fun fun year.

Donald Driver 7th round draft pick 213
Greg Jennings 2nd round draft pick 52
Jordy Nelson 2nd round draft pick 32
Randal Cobb 2nd round draft pick 64
James Jones 3rd round draft pick 78

    Rodgers is great.

The receivers level of play are not solely because of him though. Legedu would not be great there. That means there has to be skill from the WR too, just from a logical standpoint. Plus a case can be made that system is important to the WR & QBs success as well.

I agree and I think Tannehill will do it. Lets face it, how much of a downfield threat was just Hartline and Bess and Fasano ? Thats why teams brought it heavy on the pass rush against us last year and RT still did decent, IMO. No he was not a Joe Montanna or an Andrew Luck in his first year but again, who did he have to throw to ? not much.

Spread the field with even decent receivers and you are right, get the ball to them and its an entirely different ball game. Who ever thought, fans, that Aaron Rodgers would actually turn out to be this good. Rodgers sat on the bench for 3 years behind Farve and Farve gave him not help at all. Farve made it known he wanted nothing to do with his potential replacement.

Mike McCarthy made Rodgers what he is, not Mike Sherman. They fired stone face Sherman and thats when the Packers really started to open up the offense. McCarthy started some sort of QB type school and he MADE Rodgers got to it weekly, Farve refused to go and give any help. Long story short, I pray Philbin remembers that and starts the same type of school for Tannehill because if we wait for Sherman to do anything hell will freeze over.

We'll have to see how this signing turns out but I think its pretty obvious that we are putting together a deep group of WRs so that we can run a uptempo style of offense with 3-4wr sets which I think is a good thing and will help Tannehill.

I agree the Packers WR's are a good group and the Packers system is important. I just think having one of the best QB's in the NFL certainly makes the system and the receivers a lot more potent. Just as Legedu might not work in that system. If the Packers had one of the bottom ten QB starters in the NFL as their QB, I doubt the system or the receivers would be as successful as they are with Rodgers as their QB.

I think for a lot of us who want Austin and Bailey, it decreases the chances of that happening.

However, I've been thinking that we basically have 2 extra picks in the top 3 rounds, so even if we went crazy and drafted both, we'd still have the amount of picks in the top 3 rounds that a normal team would have.
