RT @AdamSchefter: Chiefs gave former Dolphins CB Sean Smith a three-year deal.

The players left from the 2008-09 drafts are dwindling. Only ones currently on team: Bess (08 UDFA), Hartline (09 4th rd), Clemons (09, 5th)

Curious to see the contract details of this one. I'm guessing it won't be what he had in mind initially ... but after all his talk he probably didn't feel like he could viably return to Miami.

I think he burned every bridge on the way out of town. I seriously doubt that Ireland ever considered bringing him back.

Keenan Lewis, E.J. Biggers, Captain Munnerlyn still on the board.

Brent Grimes still on the board as well. He may be getting to the point where he has to take a 1 year, "prove it" deal, which I'd be all over.

No, this was mis-report. They were negotiating but never agreed. He's still a FA

He will be the most targeted in that secondary as well. Between him and Dunta they will combine for the most missed tackles in the league.

And we see how well Andy Ried did with talented secondaries in Philly. Haha

Which is what I said from day 1. Grimes needs to be our #1 on a 1 year deal.

Just a continuation of bad drafting, starting with the latter years of Don Shula. It's been 20+ years since this franchise has has "one of those" drafts that makes everyone go wow, even 2 or 3 years later.

Per Breer, Smith deal is 3 for $18, $11 million guaranteed.

I probably would have matched that deal. Pretty reasonable.

3yr 18 mil. This is a bad blow for us imo. A big, young, healthy, starting caliber CB at that price? Bad job and we are worse for it.

I would have as well. But apparently we want to run more zone and he doesn't fit.

The Chiefs are going to look good next season, I think.

Chiefs actually have a lot of good players but their QB situation was so bad and they got hit with a ton of injuries. If Alex Smith can at least stabilize things (which he will since he's a low turnover QB) they have a chance to win 8-10 games.

To be fair, they didn't really seem interested in keeping him, and the FA market is littered with starting caliber CBs which will likely cost less.

I agree. I don't see them as a divison winner, but they'll compete for the WC.

Chiefs might want to be concerned that Dolphins wouldn't match three years, $18 million for Sean Smith. That's not big money for a CB

I mentioned Grimes earlier, but over the enxtd ay or two several of these corners are going to have to start looking at modest 1-2 year deals.

I would love to get Grimes and Talib, or Munnerlyn on 1 year deals, draft two corners and see what happens

And we need several of them. 6'3" corners don't grow on trees either. Our CB situation has become dire.

Say what?, fans gave him to much credit..never liked his game, never respected his swagger, Im a defensive guy, I love it, would build a team around a dominant defense if it was up to me..I would never sign a corner like Smith, never draft a corner like smith, a corner who does not engage himself into a tackle with aggressiveness is a red flag, one who plays the ball poorly in the air, and one who can't catch are others, for a brief stint I saw in training camp a complete transformation of focus and body, that lasted about a month, and looking back, was obvious there were alterior motives to the changes..

Soft player, over confident, glad he departed.

I don't really agree that the CB situation is dire, or that they need to bring in multiple guys. Its very likely they bring in one CB and go with what they have. When you consider the WRs in the division, I can see why they wouldn't put a premium on the position right now.
