Amendola is nowhere close to the quality of Welker. And he's gets hurt a LOT.

LOL there's no way Amendola gets $30 million if Ireland doesnt give Hartline the deal he did.

Long is reportedly still in the physical w/ the Rams. NFL Network reported that he took a break and then went back to continue the physical. They joked it may be the longest physical in history. It can't be a good sign (health wise) for a physical to take that long.

They may be seeing lot concerns , while it may not happen , I can see Jake as being a guy that breaks down really soon age wise , and that indeed may have started a couple of years ago.

I wouldn't be so dismissive about Welker. He had 111 catches with 1200 yards when Cassel was throwing him the ball. Welker is a great WR.

I do not understand this Amendola love.

He had only 3 TDs and 2 fumbles. He had only 666 yards on 63 completions. That's good for a paltry 10.6 yards a completion. Even his first downs were low at 38.

These are not impressive numbers....these aren't even good numbers.

That was in 10 1/2 games Holmes.

He was on pace for almost 100 catches and 1000 yards. He's a quick twitch, smart WR who knows how to destroy a zone.

Health is the only cause for concern for that guy, not skill.

    So what?

666 yrds, 3 Tds, 2 fumbles, on 63 catches is horrible whether it was in 10 games or 16.

He does even less with the ball than Hartline did.

Multiply those numbers by 35% then tell me he isn't impressive. And his style doesn't dictate a high YPC.

That's not horrible for 10 games. That's pretty good, actually.

He's going from Bradford to Brady. Something tells me his numbers could go up.

Focus on 63 catches not games.

    Some examples:
Mike Wallace had 64 catches all of last year. In virtually the same amount of catches, Wallace got 5 more TDs, 200-ish more yards for 3 more yards a catch....and he had an off year.
Miles Austin had 66 catches. In virtually the same amount of catches, Austin got 3 more TDs, 300-ish more yards for 4 more yards a catch.
Boldin had 65 catches. In virtually the same amount of catches, Boldin got 1 more TD, 300-ish more yards for 4 more yards a catch.

Your argument is Amendola didn't score enough TDs per catch?? The dude is an intermediate slot WR, and he still found the end zone 3x more than Hartline.

If Amendola plays 16 games I fear you will find out first hand how good he is.

I don't think Hartline is a #1 either. Amendola is a piece of your WR corp, he is not what Welker was, which was the total WR corp.

No one is arguing he's a dynamic threat. His YPC is low at 10.6, we get that. He's still an impressive player who could be a threat for them.

The more he's targeted the more those averages go down. If he's replacing Welker, those targets will skyrocket and those averages will plummet.

Unless, the Pats switch up their offense again and get WRs...which is entirely possible.

We'll see. I think in that system with Brady, he'll be effective. My only issue with this move is his health.

Why? Catches per game is an important stat for a slot receiver. 66 catches in 10 games = 105 catches in 16. Just better hope Amendola doesn't suddenly become durable.

Amendola missed 20 games in 2 years. Pats have downgraded by getting a more expensive younger less durable receiver who isn't on the same level in football awareness as Welker. The arrogance of Bellicheck is he can go add anybody to his system, but the truth is NE has only bullied the weak AFC East that's it! They haven't won since they had a dominant defense, that's where BB became the beast we remember, but when he placated to Brady his teams have been good enough to win a few playoff games but falter because BB forgot what made HIM great!

Derek Cox signed with the Chargers. Still plenty of available CB's out there, but they are slowly starting to get snapped up. Would be nice to see us get one today...

That 10.6 ypc + Brady = lots of first downs against us. I'd rather they didn't get him.

Again, he isn't really doing anything with those catches. He is basically a basket that you throw the ball into. His average is going to go down with more catches. Almost all the #1s last year had higher yardage per catch totals and only Hartline had less TDs. Welker had almost double those catches last year and had an average of over 11 yards per catch.

Again, my point was I don't understand the love for Amendola. Virtually every team has a better WR.

I'm not sure why you'd be looking for a high YPC to replace Welker as a slot receiver to begin with. Seasonally for the Pats, Welker has ranged from 9.9 yards per catch to an astounding 12.9 yards per catch.

Coincidentally, look at Welker's and Amendola's 4th year. It's their last year with Dolphins and Rams, respectively.

    Welker: 67 catches, 687 yards (10.3 YPC), 1 TD, 33 FD
    Amendola: 63 catches, 666 yards(10.6 YPC), 3 TD, 38 FD

I like Amendola and think he'll do pretty well there, but he's just not Welker. Welker has a special short area quickness that's been used to full advantage by Brady. I'm not sure how well Amendola will be able to replicate that.

Sean Smith's numbers have to be coming down to the $6-7 million range, and at those numbers I'd resign him.

The way these numbers are coming in for corners like Chris Houston, Derek Cox and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie...all of them about $5 million a year...it's got to be tempting to try and upgrade. I'd grab two at those prices. Sean Smith, Captain Munnerlyn, Keenan Lewis, E.J. Biggers...

The Dolphins are probably handcuffed by Jake Long's adventure out in St. Louis. They have a standing offer out on him and they need him to decide so they can move on with other plans.
