Wow this sure reminds me of 2010 when the dolphins had a so called up and coming QB and signed a stud mlbs and traded for a stud wr.I was thinking playoffs. 3 years later he are we are again in almost the same exact place.I was pumped then and I am pumped now.Hopefully we will find some studs in this draft so history does not repeat itself. I guess the real question is will tanny become the qb that henne never could be.
IMO this team's core is in better shape than that one's was, so hopefully these additions and the ones still to come will help push us into playoff contention mode.
we didn't have the picks back then. In fact due to marshall, we only had 1 pick in the firs two rounds. this year we have 3. also the signing of dansby and trading for marshall were not the problems of those teams, as you hinted at with henne.
I had a dozen variations of this thread running through my head. It's a good point you raise. We've been here before. Young QB coming off an eye opening first year as a starter, but poor TD/INT ratio. Give him a top 5 WR to help his game. Big defensive signing as well. Same results. In Henne's case, things only got worse. You can give a QB tools, but better decision making only comes with experience. I really hope Tannehill is different. I think he can be. He's still learning how to be a QB. He has eye opening talent. He displayed it at times last year. Wallace could make this offense go. Everyone should enjoy today. But I think it's also good to keep in mind just how infrequently march winners = January winners. In the end, it will have so much more to do with Tannehill than any free agents added today.
Took the words right out of me CS. Difference is the draft picks and possibly the age of our team. We should still be cognizant of the fact that playoff teams build through the draft and NOT free agency.
100% true, but you have to admit its nice seeing the FA moves presumably improving positions for sameish or less cost. Thats a big difference compared to years past. (Yeah I guess Wallace is a big spend, but not much more than marshall would have been due had we kept him around, in many ways).
We had Sparano. And that up and coming QB never improved. The LB corps and even the receiver weren't the problem.
Sparano and Henning were two square wheels, few acknowledge that, especially when judging the gms tenure.
Def, I concur. I have been wondering how we could get rid of Dansby and his contract. The Ellerbe move was a surprise+fantastic+great value all things considered if we release Dansby. Still not sold on the Wallace move tbh, but time will tell. You do make a good point considering the money would have been given to Marshall regardless.
