You don't pay that much for just speed though. You can get speed in the draft very easily. Look at Mike Wallace. Pitt took him in the 3rd round. We could have taken Markus Wheaton in the 3rd round this year or Chris Givens/ TY Hilton last year. You don't have to spend $13 million a season to get someone that can take the top of a defense.

And if that is their thought process, they are going to be very disappointed.

I think he's more than just a 9 route guy. He also brings the threat of a slant going the distance. We desperately missed that last year. Besides I think they clearly wanted a proven commodity as opposed to waiting on a rookie. As for the 13 million per, I'd look more at the 30 million guaranteed. I bet a lot of the remaining contract is heavily back-loaded.

F-----g Wow!! This is amazing! I didn't see the Ellerbe signing coming, but I thought it would be great to have him. The Ravens are having a f-----g fire sale of talent. I honestly think these contracts are scary, but.... I hope this pays off. It is a bit of a gamble. Man, but what chips to play with, huh? I guess players not wanting to come to Miami because of Ireland was a bunch of BS. Now Jeffy, go get us one of the FA DBs and I'll crown you and then you can call it a day. :)

It would be interesting to say the least, no?

I'm heavily intrigued to know who our plan B is if Cook was plan A. Any ideas Keith?

I agree and as much grief as i have expressed I feel better knowing I am wrong instead of being right about Jeff Ireland . I think i was ticked off becuase we went 7 -9 and we looked bad on offense and to see attendance like it was last year was very painful as a dolphin fan.

So I will man up and say I am sorry i was hard on our gm .

If we somehow do manage to make the playoffs your talking about the front runner for exec of the year perhaps. Remember... This is a contract year for Ireland himself. Its a huge effort to put the phins back on the map, and the critics better appreciate it atleast a little.

    Phillip Wheeler.

The LB unit is getting an enema. I question the priorities but I like it nonetheless.

I'm thinking James Casey, but they have the draft ammo to make a move to get both Tavon Austin and Tyler Eifert, IMO.

Watching NFL Network is maddening. "Deep Pockets in Miami". "New ATM machines in Miami" "Where are they getting all this money" Pioli's jaw dropping at the money we gave Ellerbe

    Give me a ****ing break

Dansby was making 10+ million per year. Ellerbe will make 7. We save money there.

Phillip Wheeler at 5 million per year is cheaper than Kevin Burnett. Another savings.

And oh wait......they're both like 5 years younger too!

We spent big on Mike Wallace. THAT'S IT!

If I had to guess, we still have 20+ million in cap space.

Jeff Ireland, you're doing a good job getting younger, stronger, and faster while not overspending

Who is to say we do not already have him in Lamar Miller? :tongue2: Same measurables and explosiveness at least!

Best quote of the day that I read today is as follows:

"The Ravens were hammered at the start of free agency, picked apart like a large pizza left in a college dorm."

Yeah, if you look at it on paper, Miami has spent a lot of money. If you really look at the moves they made, they spent a lot of money on Wallace and moved around money smartly.

    This is some smart maneuvering.

    I question one thing though.

Besides Starks..we don;t have a "vocal" leader on defense. Would like to see some older "leader" types for the defensive lockeroom.

We need to get a vet TE in. The position is too important these days. Going into the season with a rookie, no matter how good he is, and Egnew, is not good enough. Even if its<vomit> Dustin Keller.

Missed that one. He is gonna have to step up. Communication is key on defense. Still would like to see some old people at backup spots. Vonnie Holliday grey beard types on 1 year deals.
