http://www.twitter.com/BenVolinPBP/status/311589302729576448 Ireland getting after it. Volin hearing it's between us and St. Louis, though Omar rightfully speculating that Chud and the Browns could get into it. He's a TE guy and they've got nobody.
If I had to pick one TE out of this FA class to sign, I'd go with Cook just based on talent alone. He's a less well-known Jermicheal Finley, right down to the lapses in concentration. Still though, if he can put it all together he could be a very good TE in the NFL. This is the sort of move that makes 100% sense given Philbin's offensive philosophy. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Volin: Jared Cook in Miami Funny. I still have no idea who Brandon Gibson or Captain Whatshisname are. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well we did pretty well with the last young talented player from the Titans who hadn't quite put it all together yet.
lol I only know Capt. because he was in Deon Sanders CB camp on NFL network with Darieus Butler back before he got drafted.
Yeah I like Cook quite a bit. I live in TN and i've seen many Titan games. Doesn't make me an expert or anything (I hate when people think that about themselves) but I like what Cook was able to do in TN. They haven't really had a QB that has been able to get him the ball so I think he'd do much better working with a pure thrower like Tannehill. To be nice about it I think Jake Locker sucks, Matt Hasslebeck is decaying at this point, and their third stringer was Rusty Smith (who has seem limited action). I think Jared Cook makes perfect sense here in my opinion. We lacked athleticsm last season on offense, and we lacked play makers. Jared Cook is both of those. BTW I like the Jermichael Finley comparison.
Yes. He was a product of South Carolina's pass first offense, so you can guarantee he knows how to get open. I don't expect even with 100% effort he'll be anywhere near the blocker the Fasano was, but I don't think it will matter if the opposing defense will have to account for him with a linebacker and/or safety. As for his lack of effort, he did play in Tennessee.
Cook has a ton of talent. He's very fast and athletic (4.49 at the Combine, 41 inch vertical jump), but he's not much of a blocker, has played largely in the slot and is very inconsistent. He has been reasonably productive the last two years, averaging 641 receiving yards per season.
Dude, tight ends as inline blockers are a thing of the past. You can't run Philbin's offense to its max if your TE isn't a constant threat to shred the seam.
I'm glad someone else remembers that. Cap, Darius Butler, and 3-4 others. Seems like one was Major Wright, and Lydell Sargeant were two of the others. They were kidding around about there being a Sargeant, a Captain, and a Major all in attendance.
Fantasy football is the reason I know Cook's name. And probably the reason I have never heard of some of the defensive names being discussed...
Stop grabbing all the spotlight. http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?74462-Free-Agency-Thread-Free-Agency-Thread/page111
Id like to see this one get done, especially with Fasano gone now. We have nobody at TE. However, we also have no body at CB right now either.
The nice thing about the new CBA is we're only going to need about $8 million to sign them all, although I can see Ireland making some moves in the draft. I'm starting to get the feeling he's tired of being patient.
Needs are becoming more obvious going into draft now. OL and CB, and depending on Cook, that could include tight end. If Burnett and Dansby are cut to make up for the money on Ellerbe, then linebacker becomes a need. I agree with CK. Long memories in Miami regarding Dansby and his comments.
