The damn Giants signed Cullen Jenkins for $8 mil/3 yrs, 3 mil guaranteed. Why can't the Dolphins make deals like this???

We're not in the habit of signing 32 year-olds?

We're interested in Woodson though, reportedly. Starks just turned 29. Is the difference between a 29 yr old DT and a 32 yr old DT of comparable ability, 5-6 mil a season? Perhaps you do not consider Jenkins comparable to Starks. If so the discussion becomes moot. It just seems like a heck of a good deal for the Giants to me. Ireland should have been all over him for that kind of money. We need a 3rd DT anyway.

I don't consider he and Starks similar. But if I did you wouldn't be asking that question when we re-sign him, which seems likely, imo. And sure he'll prob go for more money.

You could do the research it takes to figure out that the contract Randy Starks signed in 2008 was a better deal,

    MOD EDIT.

Jenkins' forte is pass rushing from the DT spot. He'd have been ideal as a 3rd DT to rotate with Starks and Soliai. At 8 mil for 3 yrs, it's highway robbery IMO.

I missed this...bad move IMO. Yah, it's a depth thing but Stanford was absolutely torched everytime he saw the field and McCann was alright.

Jeez...more corners for the corner market.

Will be interesting to see which one(s) Miami has targeted for fitting what they do.

I still can't understand why they didn't tender Bryan McCann.

More weaponry at your disposal, better athlete, faster, offers more scheme diversity..just basing it on skillset alone, none of the other baggage..

Marshall is a big possession receiver..throw him a bunch a balls, get a lot a catches, minimal yac yardage, stymies your offense, runs specific routes well, others notsomuch, no speed at all, can be single covered..

Harvin was a first round pick, and just got traded for a first round pick +..

You build your offense one way, I would build another way, starting with a Brandon Marshall over a percy harvin skillset, would not be my ideal, but to each his own..

Harvin can take direct snaps in the ZOMBGXCAT though. In all seriousness while I think Harvin will do well in Seattle, I just can't figure out at what level of performance he'll be living up to that pricetag.

    **EDIT**

Ah, I misread it, I thought it was a mid-round pick this year as well. That makes it much better than what I was originally thinking.

Lets not forget that Percy Harvin is 4 years younger and comes with a lot less personal baggage than Marshall when comparing the two trades.

At the time we traded Marshall to Chicago he was 27 years old going on 28. Percy Harvin is now 24 years old going on 25. That's 3 years older, not 4 years older.

And I strongly disagree with "less personal baggage". Strongly.

I would estimate Marshall averages about 25 catches a year more than Harvin, Harvin makes up for that by being the most dangerous returner in the league and housing them..also has over a hundred carries, 6.5 average..

I don't think Ireland was refusing any first rounds picks last year.

Yes, Marshall is the best possession receiver in the game..but what else.

What else? How about 11 touchdowns this year and 1500+ yards to Percy's 5 touchdowns and almost 800 yards. What else? Twice the production, that's what else.

I'm not sure how much you can fault someone for what they get in a trade. If you believe what Stephen Ross said, Marshall was on the market for a few weeks, and that was the best offer they got. The fact that Seattle has a higher opinion of Harvin than the NFL had of Marshall isn't really something that the team can control.

yeah I see the numbers, I see the targets, I see no playoffs, I see what he did in our offense, I've studied his game in isolation, he doesn't demand respect from the safeties, not nearly the double teams that may be perceived, and certainly doesnt offer you much after the catch..he's got about 60 carries for about a 0 average which shows what kind of elusiveness he lacks.

These trades don't happen in a vacuum or in the Madden world where other issues don't come into play. The reason we were getting rid of Marshall was the same reason there was no market for him.

I think Seattle overpaid but I think that may have been the market for Harvin this year. If the Marshall trade was such a screw up in comparison then why didn't Seattle cough up three picks (including a first) for Marshall last year?
