Drew Rosenhaus said on Sports Extra that the Dolphins will in fact sign Mike Wallace on Tuesday afternoon.
Thank you sir. I wonder what he thinks of one of his peers making bold public proclamations like Drew did?
All I was told is that the interest was mutual, and that Omar Kelly's report was 100% correct. I don't know anybody that makes any decisions for the Miami Dolphins.
Never mind. I don't think you really have a good working concept of what is or is not meant by "statistically significant". No big deal.
If this is true, this is huge. I never expected Ireland to have the balls to sign a Mike Wallace straight out of FA considering what happened the last time we acquired a big time receiver. I don't agree with this move, but I'll defer to the professionals.
I'm personally not sure why everyone is so sure Eric Winston would be signed here. Last time he was a free agent he made the rounds through Miami and Jeff Ireland totally low balled him based on health. They never even officially made an "offer" because they were all so far apart from one another. I'm not sure his medical conditions would have gotten better over the last two years. I buy that this front office thinks it can get away with Jon Martin at left tackle. I'm not sure I agree with them but I buy that they might be thinking that way. But I don't see them offering Eric Winston what he wants considering they could've already had him and they chose not to even come close.
At the time it made sense to low ball him. He was cut by Houston after he failed a physical. His health was in question. Since then, he played 1,000 snaps again, so he answered the questions about his health. I think we offer him a deal soon after one last attempt at signing Long.
You spent a 2 on Martin you have to believe he can play left in this system. Winston makes a lot of sense for this team.
I like Eric Winston. I've always liked him. I just don't trust Jon Martin to play the offensive line's most important position. I barely trust him to play right tackle as is.
This morning Joe Rose is reporting on WQAM that Mike Wallace will be signed tomorrow by your Miami Dolphins. Take it for what its worth.
NFL.COM :Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported Monday morning that the Dolphins "didn't have much, if any, competition for a big-money deal" for Wallace during the start of the NFL's free agent negotiating period. Big money in this case is around the $11 million per season, Dwayne Bowe/Vincent Jackson type-deals.
If there's no competition, why pay him $12.5 million? At that point his asking price should come down. He has no #leverage.
Is that a general Jeff Ireland malaise thing, or what? This front office doesn't have a habit of doubling down on inadequate younger players. Martin might be the only example of a younger player being put in a position to start where they've been allowed to flounder a bit, and they've got a pretty consistent track record of finding insurance in these circumstances.
This is the way I feel. If they sign Winston then my hope is they get lucky and have Lane Johnson fall to them at #12. They can kick Martin inside to OG in that scenario. Taking another O-Lineman in the first round won't sit well with many but I wouldn't complain with a starting 5 of Johnson/Cognito/Pouncy/Martin/Winston.
Agreed. I'm prepared to comfort my concern with the assumption that Philbin ok'ed the move. However, I refuse to believe or worry about anything until there's an official release from the team.
This is the kind of move a front office on its last leg makes. It is desperation. Well, I guess we can start talking about how the coaching staff is going to alter a system that was perfectly fine and proven to fit in an overpaid limited vertical threat that doesn't focus when the ball isn't coming his way.
It will sit well with me because if you are bringing in targets for Tanny then you'd better find a way to give him time to find those targets.
In Green Bay when Joe was the OC there, there was a point a few years ago (2009 I'm thinking), where their line was horrific. Philbin's response to the pass blocking issues was to spread the field and put the quarterback in the shot gun. I think in the short term, that's what we will probably see in Miami.
Ben Volin also saying that "someone we trust" is saying that Wallace is a done deal. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...nt-to-miami-dolphins-landing-wr-mike-wallace/
Me too, i'll admit I had a bit more of an interest in grandpa jennings or double dwainbows coming here, but i'm going to be stoked for this team if we sign MW anyway. Make it happen, please
