I posted this in another thread, but I want people to be ready so we don't have the frustration and hatred from last year after every story about us proved to be false or mostly false. I'd like to remind everybody of the media hell that was last season before they start feeling sure about Wallace or any other FA, trade target or draftee. The press is wrong more than 50% this time of year. Partly because they need stories and partly because they are lied to by teams and agents in off season subterfuge. They were 100% wrong about Manning, Fisher, McCoy, Flynn, Smith until after they didn't end up here then we learned the truth. Be especially wary of tweets. Real sports writers are using Twitter to seed rumors because the format doesn't require the same source standard a newspaper does. Also look for code words like: - sources say (too nebulous) - according to a person close to the organization/the deal/the player (misinformation from the agent) - rumblings (misinformation from local sportswriters) Stay vigilant and don't buy into any hype or stories unless names are signed on the dotted line.
Anyone who experienced the Harbaugh fiasco knows this. We reportedly signed him to be our HC atleast twice.
By now I'm well aware that if we're in the lead to sign a free agent, it's not gonna happen. We're just being lead on, because we're the joke of the NFL. Sucks because I really wanted Wallace.
No, not even close. We are not the JESTS. If you want to see a team that has overpaid for MANY players (Via draft as well as Free Agency) just see exactly where they are at. They just had to release 3 of their best defensive players, they have NOBODY behind those guys in depth, they are asking their only remaining offensive weapon to cut his Prima-dona salary (Which there is ZERO chance he does) and they are stuck with a 2nd string QB for several years. We are not the laughing stock of the league. We are a few good breaks away from being competitive....
Why should we believe you?!?!? I'm always warned by the key words "Be Warned". Also, Omar assured me his tweets are always the truth, and nothing but the truth, so help him god. I believe Omar.
Most will be on the cliff ready to jump off. Others will be on the the sidewalk with signs that say fire Ireland. Remember that firing your GM one month before the draft is idiotic and clueless folks.
I'm fine if we don't sign mike Wallace for 6 years 72 million dollars, I would think that y'all would feel the same.. Just remember, offensive skillset players must and will be approved by Sherman and Philbin, no GM in the league would overrule that kind of knowledge over their own.
Appreciate the warning, but at the same time, we did have interest in all of the "Manning, Fisher, McCoy, Flynn, Smith" So the reports saying we were interested were correct. The reports saying a deal was final (which were few and far between) were obviously not correct. Final, or imminent, or 90% done, or he's leaning this way... It's up to each of us to understand the differences. Nothing is truly final or official until the team announces it. The problem with that is that it takes them too long. So we get this media circus. I'm not saying it's all the teams fault, but they could certainly help or hurt the situation. There are two people that I don't trust anymore. Jason La Confora. And Chris Mortensen. On the other hand, Alex Marvez and Jay Glazer are 100% boss when it comes to this stuff. Jeff Darlington has been solid lately, but he's not perfect. I won't even mention the local guys.
Flawless pre-emptive strike ! We're all amped up with a scent for blood right now. They could be using Wallace as a means to get hartline and Jennings cheaper, or to just price him out. Prepare for anything. One thing I did promise early on, is that most the free $ will go to retaining our own. We're on a good pace for that.
Yeah, good points here...I thought of this in the last few days with the bantering back and forth of whether we should try for Wallace or Jennings or whoever.... All the info out there right now is simply there to "cloud" what may or may not really be going on behind closed doors in every NFL facility... I remember distinctly getting caught up in the Harbaugh stuff a few years ago...I was convinced, via press reports, twitter, forums, etc that he'd be our next coach.... As my Daddy would say " How'd that work out ?" So, lets all just take a breath and see what really transpires for this team and maybe save the bashing and/or praising for sometime after the draft....hehehe
Indeed, but the argument has always been about which players and not necessarily contracts ! This staff while have input on Jennings worth, that's for sure.
I was so caught up in the Harbaugh thing, I thought he was so our coach I believe I posted something like.."I'am king of the world'!!!.. I loved that man..will never quite recover..would of taken him over manning.
How long have we been saying this? And I HATE to defend the Jests, but even they have won a few playoff games this decade. I know i'm coming off as really negative, but it just seems like every big name we've been wanting the last few years just uses us for leverage.
Yeah, no. Sure we had interest, but these reports and tweets were saying we were forerunners, or that were more or less done deals, etc.
I think we can "thank" Twitter for this, it's a race to claim you got the news out first. Kinda like the childish first posts you used to see on comments all the time.
Just a friendly reminder That at by this point Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Matt Hasselbeck, Barry Sanders, Ryan Clark and Jim Harbuagh were all supposed to be "done deals". Dont believe everything you hear, because this team always finds a way to dissapoint.
Didn't Fin D start this exact same thread yesterday? We know nothing is a sure thing. Media gon' media.
The difference is, those guys had other suitors. Mike Wallace doesn't. Miami is bidding against themselves here.
