This is actually a pleasant surprised. However, i wonder if we're gonna get people again this year wondering how far in the playoffs we would have gotten with Moore as our starter...........
Since we probably don't pay Long, we may need Moore this season. If you are taking a bit more risk at left and right tackle, you are Inherently taking more risk at QB.
I'm happy.... and shocked... at this point in his career, I would have thought that he'd want to start somewhere. I do believe he has starter ability in this league. And we know this year is a bad year for quarterbacks (draft and free agency). I mean if Alex Smith can get KC to give up a 2nd and future 2nd/3rd you know things are bad in the market. I reckon he could have got much more money in the open market. Kudos to the Dolphins for getting him back at the price they did. You always need a backup quarterback that you can rely on. With more and more teams going to read options, and we've seen this with Tannehill last year, the chances for injury are higher. I believe the general consensus on Matt was that he didn't have the ideal skill sit for a Joe Philbin offense. I'm pretty sure we can throw that theory out the window. Two years.... Gives us more time to see what we have with Devlin, is he #2 worthy? Of course, Matt Moore will always be synonymous with trade bait now.
Wait. We're paying our backup QB (Who I love, I love the guy) $4 mil per? GTFOH man. I love Moore but that's too much. Unless it incentive based with "If he has to start" kind of language.
I would love to know the breakdown between the two years. I would be surprised if his 2013 cap charge was over $2.5m to $3m. I would expect there to be some type of roster bonus / option bonus kicking in after the 2013 season... around March of 2014.
His cap number this year will be less than 4M. Next year, they can very well trade him for picks to a team starved of QB.
You guys realize we basically gave him a 1.5 million dollar raise to keep the Jets from being competitive, right? I'm okay with that. Enjoy the Jason Campbell bidding war, Jests.
I don't think trust has anything to do with it. We have the best backup QB in the league. We saw how much that meant when he came in and helped beat the Jets.
the estimate as far as cap room left after the Starks/Hartline/Moore resignings is projected at around $30m.
I've been saying that since the day the traded the draft for Dirty Natcho. Many actually scorned me for pointing out that was a HUGE mistake.....
On the bright side, it's got to be awesome knowing we have 2 QBs better than any QB starting for the Jets.
This is the best quote of the day regarding our QBs... Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP +1 RT @henrykazoo: @BenVolinPBP feels good to know we once again have two qbs better than any that will start for the jets
But signing the best backup in the league that has proven it and works well with your young franchise QB is.
Is he really the best backup in the league when he seemed to be soundly defeated in camp by both David Garrard and Ryan Tannehill? I know he had a good game against the Jets when called upon, but still.
I am surprised he ended up resigning here. Perhaps trade bait if a teams starter goes down. Either way, I am glad he stayed.
I am happy Moore stayed on our squad, but at the same time would have loved to see him compete for a starting job in this league. He definitely could easily have challenged the starting QB for the job on several teams last season.
MM: PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST RT: What? MM: I make more money than you.
I can't think of any, maybe last year you could say Smith with the 49ers, but he is gone. Charlie Batch? No, Hasselback? Maybe, I really can't think of one.
I think you could put Kyle Orton in the discussion, but then again, he is actually getting paid more than Moore. Don't think you can count Smith, and actually, not sure he is better than Matt Moore. I think that had Moore been in that offense, he would have flourished and Koepernick would still be riding the pine......
Everyone ripping this move would be the first in line with pitchforks and torches if Tannehill got hurt and we had no backup quarterback. Yes, he is making a little too much money. I'd rather be safe than have a season wrecked by an injury to Tannehill.
I think this is a very very very cheap insurance policy myself. If only the things he can teach Tannyhill if nothing else. Consider it a paycheck bump to be a part time coach if you will.
