Audibles. What the scouts are saying

I picked up a copy of Pro Football Weekly's Draft magazine last night. Inside there are some random quotes from various anonymous scouts on some of the players. I found them interesting. Some are pretty scathing and damning, some are positive. I do not know how they chose which players to include quotes about, but here they all are. None left out whether I agreed or not with them. I typed them into a word doc manually, and copied and pasted them all here. There is about 5 from each position.

Mike Glennon is a backup to me. He can't avoid anything back there. Someone is going to give him a chance to start. I think he is more of a career backup. Put on the Virginia and Vanderbilt games – he has some bad tape.”

“I am not sold on Ryan Nassib's arm strength. He has some really short arms. He's not a great runner, but he's one of the better pure passers I've seen. He's better than Kirk Cousins.”

Geno Smith holds the ball way too long. He doesn't step up in the pocket and takes a lot of sacks... I understand everyone is talking about him in the first round. It's very rare that you see any quarterback that is a first-round pick take a safety during his (college) career. I put on their bowl game – this guy had two in one game. I cannot get it out of my head. He's not as advertised.”

Tyler Bray is built like an Ethiopian distance runner – he's tall and very lean. He's very careless with the ball. He has a wind-up. He's not a very good football player.”

Zac Dysert is a good athlete, but he's not going to beat you with his feet. He throws a nice ball. I'm not sure how passionate he is about the game. He might become a starter, but I just get that feeling that he's a guy you'll be looking to replace.”

Giovani Bernard is china doll soft. I wanted to like the guy, but he plays like the Carolina blue he wears. He pulls himself out of games for no reason, and he always has some injury. He'll never be able to carry it.”

Montee Ball is better than Ronnie Brown. I'd put him right up there with the best backs I have seen the past ten years.”

Christine Michael stood out at the (Shrine) game, but he is the type of guy who is going to look great in an all-star game where (the coaches) keep it very simple and let you play. He's a high rep guy and has a lot of issues. We wouldn't talk about him until the 5th round.”

Marcus Lattimore is tall and a little narrow-hipped. He is tough and the kind of kid you root for, but I thought he was a third-rounder before the injury. Now I don't know if he gets drafted.”

“When you see Le'Veon Bell in practice, he is one big good-looking, athletic dude. He has been very productive in the Big Ten with a lot of touches – they fed him. He has soft, soft receiver hands. There were three games where he leaped over guys. He looks like a full-grown man. What bothered me – you see him run out of bounds. He should be a bruising back for how big he is, and there are times he punks out.”

Lonnie Pryor grades out as a PFA to me, but if there is no one else, maybe he'll get drafted late. He'll put his hat on people, but he just doesn't have much of a stinger. He ended up having a good game vs. NIU in the (Orange) Bowl, because their other two backs were hurt. He'll be a special teams (contributor).”

"Tommy Bohanon had two games where he caught two TD passes – Duke and Virginia. He's more of a finesse, athletic fullback. They kind of misused him – he didn't have any carries in any of the games I saw. He's smart and tough enough. They even line him up at tight end – it's kind of ridiculous. He does not get embarrassed, but he's just a wall-off, position-sustain blocker.”

“For never having played linebacker, Zach Boren looked pretty good there the last six games. Obviously he is going to struggle in the pass game, but he looked good vs. the run. He showed natural instincts and leverage and did some positive things.”

Richard Samuel is a china doll. He's always hurt. He's a camp body. He got beat out after getting hurt by Alec Ogletree's twin brother.”

Mike James is a big heavy running back – not a fullback. He played fullback as a courtesy to the kid. He's not big or strong enough. He started at tailback but moved to fullback to keep on the field. He's too small for a fullback.”

Tavon Austin is a smurf with speed. He's skinny-waisted and thin-ankled. He's a little guy. He is fast as (expletive) and explosive. I just don't know how much of a pounding his body can take. He gets lost in the shuffle as a punt returner and squirts through the line. He won't turn the corner in the NFL like he does in the Big East.”

Aaron Dobson might by a No. 3 receiver. I thought Brian Quick was bigger and better. They both have that basketball player build. I don't see the speed to go vertical.”

Quinton Patton does not make enough plays. He looks good on the hoof, and I gave him a third-round grade, but I felt like it was too early.”

“Oklahoma could not stop Stedman Bailey and they have a good defense. You have to take into consideration he is going to need some route work coming from that spread offense. Look around the country and tell me where the playmakers are. He makes plays.”

Robert Woods seemed to get all the hype at USC. The other kid (sophomore Marqise Lee) is the one with all the talent. He's the real deal. You could live with Woods in the slot. He's not special.”

“I was down on Gavin Escobar as a blocker after watching the Boise game – he flashed and didn't work his feet. Then I ended up watching three more and thought he did a lot better. He's an interesting guy, especially with the way the league is trending.”

“Because they use 11 and 87 in-line, Zach Ertz was not even in the game much as a blocker. He struggles when he tries to block power. He gets pulled and jerked and knocked off his block attempts.”

Travis Kelce is a trainwreck character-wise. He looks tight-hipped and straight-linish to me. I could see him eventually starting, but we wouldn't talk about a guy with his baggage until at least the third (round).”

Jordan Reed is really just a big receiver. He's not as fast as the last kid to come out of there (Aaron Hernandez), but he's pretty athletic and catches well.”

“I though Dion Sims was soft as a blocker for as big as he is. He gets downfield and catches well. He was a little dinged up this year. It was still disappointing to watch. I expected to see more from him.”

Menelik Watson is overaged, not a U.S. citizen, and plays very tall. He is going to work out like a phenom and has all the ability. The question is whether you can get it out of him.”

Luke Joeckel has to get a lot stronger. He's the safest pick in the draft, but the system helps him out a lot there. They get the ball out so fast, and when they do have pressure, the guy (Johnny Manziel) just runs all over. When you factor (Joeckel's) movement and intangibles, though, it does not get much better.”

"Oday Aboushi does not have left tackle movement. Someone might keep him there out of necessity, but he'll struggle.”

Lane Johnson is not very strong. He's really a developmental guy that you'd like to let spend a year in the weight room. He has feet – he just hasn't filled out yet. He can bend. He started as a tight end. He has a lot of upside.”

Justin Pugh's feet are so good that you don't want to waste him at guard. Will his short arms force him inside? They could, but we have a lot of insight into that program and the coaches swear he can play the angles well enough to stay outside. You can be prepared to move him in, but you have to at least try him (at left tackle) to start.”

Brian Winters holds his own at left tackle in the MAC, but bullets fly a lot faster in the league. He can't do it, but he can be a damn good guard. I could see the mushroom heads (O-Line coaches) falling in love with him.”

“I didn't like the way Kyle Long was messing around at practice. He looked like a knucklehead. I think he's more of a guard than a tackle. He was just always talking and (screwing) off. – there was something missing from that look.”

"Alvin Bailey has a big ol' body and he has a punch, but I don't know how powerful he is for as big as he is. He'll go somewhere in the third-round. There are not many guards.”

“If Hugh Thornton checks out medically, he's a plug-and-play starter. He is tough and nasty. He's had a rough background. I've done a lot of digging – he's not going to be for everyone and his card will get pulled off some boards, but I'd like to have him.”

Larry Warford was a lot better as a junior than he was as a senior. He put on weight and didn't move around as well. I always get nervous about guys who might eat themselves out of the league. He could be one of them.”

Khaled Holmes has very good size like Peter Konz did last year. It wouldn't surprise me if he were drafted to play guard. (Holmes) uses a lot of finesse. I thought he had some trouble snapping the ball in the games I saw. He didn't get it back very quick and some (defensive linemen) got on top of him.”

“I didn't think Travis Frederick was a center. I think he is a better guard. He is effective. I put him at the bottom of (Round) Two. With the coaching change and no centers in the draft, he picked a good year to come out and maybe he'll go a little higher.”

“I was not a fan of Braxston Cave and I went through there a few times wanting to like him. I kept him alive in the sixth (round).”

“I know other (evaluators) who love Barrett Jones. I don't understand it. If he played at Auburn instead of Alabama, no one would be talking about him. He's smart, tough, and a captain, but he's a bad athlete and weak. I don't understand the infatuation.”

“All of the linemen at LSU were bad this year, but the center (P.J. Longeran) was a little better than the rest.”

“Everyone has been talking about Ziggy Ansah, and throwing around comparisons. If a guy has length, some twitch and a motor, people think it's Jason Pierre-Paul. He ain't. Otherwise they wouldn't align him inside so much. He's a one-year wonder and a tweener...Put on the bowl game. He was getting pushed down the field and a ball gets thrown at his chest and he intercepts it. He fell into it – he didn't create it. That's how he produced this year.”

Damontre Moore is explosively talented, but he's a mess off the field. There's no structure in his life. He beats to his own drum.”

Tank Carradine is one of the stiffest guys I have seen this year. He cannot redirect. It's almost like he has Ricketts – he can't change direction. He is a power rusher, not a pass rusher. He has no plan. He's coming off the knee now and he's a rep guy. There's a lot of miss (factors) there.”

Bjoern Warner is Ryan Kerrigan. That's who he is.”

William Gholston will go higher than he should because of how he looks and measures out. Someone will probably take him in the second. He plays like a fifth (rounder). He makes some flash plays but then disappears and allows himself to be blocked by lesser players.”

Sharrif Floyd played end to help the team and get the best players on the field, but that's not what he is. He's a penetrator. … He didn't start playing football 'til later in life. He didn't have a lot of structure. It was not easy for him when Urban Meyer left. He wanted to follow him to Ohio State, but he stuck it out, … He's a workout fiend. He's going to test out extremely well.”

Star Lotulelei has a 30-plus (inch) vertical at 320 pounds. He's athletic and can run. He can rush the passer. I think he will get better with coaching at our level. They line him up as more of a nose, but he is athletic enough to be a three-technique. As strong as he is working half a man, he is going to create pressure.”

“I'm not sure I would take the Purdue guy (Kawann Short) in the first (round). He scares me even though he had a lot of sack production (during) his career. He reminds me a lot of Jerel Worthy, but he's more of a mama's boy. He was raised by the women in his life.”

“I liked Johnathan Hankins. I didn't love him. He's productive flushing production and causing pressure more than actually making plays.”

“LSU gives the 18 jersey to their hardest worker every year. They gave it to Bennie Logan this year. He is a very strong plugger with a thick, athletic build. He looks every bit the part.”

Steve Beauharnais is more of a backup player than a starter, but he's a good football player who will find a way to play. I really liked his instincts.”

Kevin Minter gets to the spot fast and has some pop. He is a tackling machine. His reads are a little off, but I'm not so sure it's the way they are coaching him. I think he's better than the kid from Cal (Mychal Kendricks) that went in the second (round) last year.”

"Mike Mauti looks like Captain America in practice. I liked him there more than I did on tape. He makes a lot of under-the-radar plays. I'm just not sure where to play him. He plays “Will” for them. I think he'll wind up being a “Mike” (in the league).”

"Manti Te'o is a very religious, religious, religious kid. I haven't gotten a vibe for bull – from him. When this came out and the way it came out – it wreaks of someone trying to see him fall. I will tell you this – Baltimore is losing their leader (Ray Lewis). They always seem to land the guy with 'issues' and then they go on to play in Pro Bowls the next 10 years. It could fall into their hands again.”

"Kevin Reddick is intense. He's everything you want in a leader. He's smart and instinctive. He just can't run. His speed is average.”

Arthur Brown is too small for us. He's got to be a run-around guy that's always protected. If you get a body on him, he's done. He is active and makes a lot of plays.”

"Khaseem Greene is not instinctive. All the plays he makes are schemed. He is not as good as his stats say. I charted his production and it wasn't what they said it was. Syracuse was bugging him so bad he got a personal foul in the first quarter because he punched the guy. They have to show him where to line up. He digests everything. He's not tough. … I know a lot of (scouts) who love him. He has bust written all over him.”

“(Dion) Jordan scares me. I'm not sold on the tall drink of water. Is he a “Sam” in a 4-3? Is he a Von Miller type in terms of how he plays? He doesn't have his explosiveness or power. I like the athleticism in his drops, but his pass rush is pretty ordinary. He's leggy and has trouble powering through people and doesn't get off blocks real well. From being at practice, he scares the (crap) out of me.”

Alec Ogletree moves like a DB playing linebacker. He's fast, quick and athletic – he moves like a gazelle. He has run into some trouble off the field and is going to need things kept simple, but I would like to have him.”

“I do like (Johnthan) Banks. He reminds me of the type of corners they have playing in Seattle. He's a lot like Richard Sherman. He can play off or on and is not bad off, but that's not his deal. He is a press cover guy. Everyone wants a big man corner. He does not get too out of whack shadowing in the four games I watched. For a long guy, he can come out of breaks.”

Desmond Trufant was an impressive interview. He is ready for the pros. He is honest and realistic and knows what to expect. He knows how to prepare. He has been around it first hand with brothers in the league.”

B.W. Webb stepped up against (Baylor WR) Terrance Williams at the Senior Bowl and shut him down. I was impressed with the way he competed.”

Tharald Simon has some length to him. He's more quick than fast with better short area burst than long speed and recovery speed. He peeks back and tries to catch up and can't recover. He's good underneath, but he's not a top cover guy.”

“Corners in the SEC play in the boundary because they throw into the boundary a lot in the southeast. Most of the quarterbacks are not big-armed guys. Patrick Peterson had straight-line speed. Xavier Rhodes has better hips than Peterson for a big guy.”

D.J. Swearinger will drop down in the box and hit you. He looks to take your head off. I love his intensity and approach. Every secondary needs a lightning rod like him. When you think of a lot of the great ones – the Ed Reeds and Brian Dawkins – they had that spark. … He'll miss some tackles that he should make, but he's a big time hitter.”

T.J. McDonald was played all over the field this year. He rarely stayed on top. He's a better athletic tester than football player.”

Tony Jefferson can't run. He got exposed vs. West Virginia and Texas A&M. He didn't look good at the end of the year. He took a lot of bad angles. He's fine when he is rolled up, but I don't even know if he'll run a 4.6. He's a box guy. I put him in the fifth (round).”

“All (Bacarri) Rambo's interceptions come underneath, but he's not a hitter. He's never been the same since he got put on a backboard early in his career. He's not a true free or an ideal strong. Factor in the background issues and you're talking about a backup.”

“I hear the talk about Matt Elam being one of the top safeties, but I was not overly enamored with him. He would start looking attractive to me in the fourth round. That's where I think he belongs. He plays the ball well, but he's more of a box guy to me.”

Can you imagine being one of those players, referred to as a china doll, picking up a copy of the mag at your local newsstand and seeing that written about you? :)

I'm sorry but did I read this right in the list of negatives about Menelik Watson:

"Menelik Watson is overaged, not a U.S. citizen, and plays very tall"

FLMAO. So not being a US citizen is a detriment to his draft stock? That's GENIUS. Remarkable xenophobia.

I got the impression the comments were from several scouts.

Nobody was calling Gio Bernard a china doll when he put himself back in the game against nc state to return a punt for the game winning touchdown on a bum ankle.

First of all, can I just say I love you for putting in this much effort to share these with us, Mr. ? By the way, what's your actual name?

Okay, as I read through them I'm gonna put my thoughts on each right below the quote.

This has to be the potential top five pick with the most questionmarks of any recent top five QB I can recall. First half of the season on fire.. then the wheels fell off, and the engine exploded, and he went into a ditch.

Tyler Bray is built like an Ethiopian distance runner – he's tall and very lean. He's very careless with the ball. He has a wind-up. He's not a very good football player.”
I actually give Bray's WRs an extra notch of credit for dealing with him. I felt his accuracy was brutally scattershot.

Zac Dysert is a good athlete, but he's not going to beat you with his feet. He throws a nice ball. I'm not sure how passionate he is about the game. He might become a starter, but I just get that feeling that he's a guy you'll be looking to replace.”
This may be the single worst thing to have any organization think about you as a prospect. Then again, Curtis Martin said he only played football because it was something he was good at and he promised God to make use of his opportunities.

Giovani Bernard is china doll soft. I wanted to like the guy, but he plays like the Carolina blue he wears. He pulls himself out of games for no reason, and he always has some injury. He'll never be able to carry it.”
Reminds me of Donald Thomas, hearing that.

Montee Ball is better than Ronnie Brown. I'd put him right up there with the best backs I have seen the past ten years.”
Wow. I need to watch this kid.

Christine Michael stood out at the (Shrine) game, but he is the type of guy who is going to look great in an all-star game where (the coaches) keep it very simple and let you play. He's a high rep guy and has a lot of issues. We wouldn't talk about him until the 5th round.”
I've liked what I've seen of Christine. Granted, much of it is based, as they say, on the Shrine stuff. Still, I'd have him on my list of late possibilities.

I love how uncensored these are. Saying he won't turn the corner in the NFL is interesting. Again, the vision for this kid to contribute in the NFL includes his punt return and kick return ability, and his behind the LOS running ability. To me, that is not a guy you take at 12th overall because I don;t think you can expect him to do running plays, learn to play WR, and be a returner for an ENTIRE CAREER. Who does that for ten years? I mean, after a couple years you have to reduce his exposure and settle him into a role, I would think as a WR. No way he stands up to the poiunding of all three roles. This is a guy that in his FIRST year all his supporters will be thumping their chests saying "See?!? I TOLD you so!" but by year five they'll be dead quiet, like Tavon.

Aaron Dobson might by a No. 3 receiver. I thought Brian Quick was bigger and better. They both have that basketball player build. I don't see the speed to go vertical.”
    Agreed.

Quinton Patton does not make enough plays. He looks good on the hoof, and I gave him a third-round grade, but I felt like it was too early.”
Hm. I have to say, Quinton did not have me leaping out of my chair like many people around here. I watched him and said, almost like a concession, "Yeah. Okay, he's pretty good." but I did not see anything special there. Anything particularly dangerous. A great fit for the system? Sure. Something to get super excited about? No. It sounds like he will go in the second round, but to be honest, I feel like he is a late second, early third guy like Robert Woods.

“Oklahoma could not stop Stedman Bailey and they have a good defense. You have to take into consideration he is going to need some route work coming from that spread offense. Look around the country and tell me where the playmakers are. He makes plays.”
BINGO. My favorite receiver in this draft. A few inches taller with the same skills and production and this guy is a top ten pick.

Robert Woods seemed to get all the hype at USC. The other kid (sophomore Marqise Lee) is the one with all the talent. He's the real deal. You could live with Woods in the slot. He's not special.”
Agreed. But he IS consistent, dependable, polished (for a college kid) and will be one of the 'readiest' to play in the NFL.

“I was down on Gavin Escobar as a blocker after watching the Boise game – he flashed and didn't work his feet. Then I ended up watching three more and thought he did a lot better. He's an interesting guy, especially with the way the league is trending.”
Hm. I felt Escobar was off-balance in his blocking, and just tried his best to get between the defender and ballcarrier, while not really locking on too well, and not driving anyone back at all. I mean, he's not a bad blocker, but he is not a good one. In the end, I didn't come away excited about Escobar. he's a guy I look at in the 4th if he's there, due to his length and passing game contributions while not hurting you too bad in the run game and pass pro. I liked that he DID show aggression in his attempts to block.

“Because they use 11 and 87 in-line, Zach Ertz was not even in the game much as a blocker. He struggles when he tries to block power. He gets pulled and jerked and knocked off his block attempts.”
    Meh.

Travis Kelce is a trainwreck character-wise. He looks tight-hipped and straight-linish to me. I could see him eventually starting, but we wouldn't talk about a guy with his baggage until at least the third (round).”
My Kelce notes: Good blocker: some strength, good arm extension and hand fighting, mirrors well to keep his man engaged, slides well with him, knows when to release to next block. Equally good in pass pro and run blocking. Not much in the way of RAC yards if defenders are around him, but can get some yardage when open. Not elusive, not a tackle breaker. Does always fall forwards though. A slightly lankier-looking Anthony Fasano.
How big an upgrade is he from Fasano, really? Are we going from a B+ tight end to an A- tight end?

Jordan Reed is really just a big receiver. He's not as fast as the last kid to come out of there (Aaron Hernandez), but he's pretty athletic and catches well.”
I had hoped for an even faster time from Reed at the combine, but clearly he is the MOST dynamic of the TEs in this draft with the ball in his hands. It's fair to say, though, that he is borderline between being a WR and not a tight end. His frame is smallish, and he's just under 6'2". He has great feet in Pass Protection, actually, but loses in blocks at the POA due to size and strength. Lunges, gets off balance. Honestly, I loved him before the combine and hoped to see him in the mid 240's weight range and good strength and explosion numbers, but I just have to admit to myself, after the combine, that this guy is not powerful or big enough to be a viable tight end. He's a tweener... but a tweener with GREAT ability to make people miss, get yards, create mismatches and get in the endzone. I don't know. If he drops to the 4th round I have a tough time passing on him. I don;t think he fits Joe Philbin's TE mold anyways.

Menelik Watson is overaged, not a U.S. citizen, and plays very tall. He is going to work out like a phenom and has all the ability. The question is whether you can get it out of him.”
loo @ not a US citizen. they say it like it's a negative for ****'s sake. wtf. this scout clearly is also curious which prospects are "too gay" to play. dumbass. What's next, "Not sure he projects well to the next level, as he is a Democrat".

Safe = Ireland likee. Too bad he'll be gone by 12.

Lance Johnson is not very strong. He's really a developmental guy that you'd like to let spend a year in the weight room. He has feet – he just hasn't filled out yet. He can bend. He started as a tight end. He has a lot of upside.”
I think you meant "Lane" ntot "Lance" Mr. C. A lot of upside is very true. I wonder when these notes were taken? 28 reps on bench press is one more than Joeckel. He also had better explosive power numbers with a better broad jump (by a foot) and vertical compared to Joeckel. Lane has to be top ten at this point.

Interesting. To me, this means you value and draft him as a GUARD (his floor) and then hope for him to prve himself at tackle (his upside). From all I have heard, I am not eager to sit down and scout Pugh.

Brian Winters holds his own at left tackle in the MAC, but bullets fly a lot faster in the league. He can't do it, but he can be a damn good guard. I could see the mushroom heads (O-Line coaches) falling in love with him.”
Have heard great things about Winters, consistenly, as a future Guard. So the question is, why do I always see him as a 4th or 5th rounder? highest I saw him was the 3rd in one mock.

“If Hugh Thornton checks out medically, he's a plug-and-play starter. He is tough and nasty. He's had a rough background. I've done a lot of digging – he's not going to be for everyone and his card will get pulled off some boards, but I'd like to have him.”
    This intrigues.

Wow. Very damning. I don't disagree that it's hard to see WHY Ziggy is so good and able to make impact plays, but I still think ziggy has amazing instincts for the game and will make a massive impact in the NFL. That said, he is NOT JPP. He is different.

Damontre Moore is explosively talented, but he's a mess off the field. There's no structure in his life. He beats to his own drum.”
Wow, given that I don't love Damontre ON the field, this makes me even less interested in him. I wonder what they mean by a mess off the field, no structure, his own drum, etc?

Tank Carradine is one of the stiffest guys I have seen this year. He cannot redirect. It's almost like he has Ricketts – he can't change direction. He is a power rusher, not a pass rusher. He has no plan. He's coming off the knee now and he's a rep guy. There's a lot of miss (factors) there.”
Wow. I think this scout is s ****ing moron. Dead wrong. I don;t give a **** if he 'does this for a living'. The world is fully of ****ty cooks, bad mechanics, and apparently, a few blind scouts. Clearly a Jacksonville Jags scout.

Bjoern Warner is Ryan Kerrigan. That's who he is.”
This would help me if I knew who Ryan Kerrigan is. lol.

William Gholston will go higher than he should because of how he looks and measures out. Someone will probably take him in the second. He plays like a fifth (rounder). He makes some flash plays but then disappears and allows himself to be blocked by lesser players.”
Good points and ones that have been discussed here.

Great great player. If Starks leaves, I'd rather get Floyd than move Odrick inside.

A lot of people, including me, kind of hope he can be the next Haloti Ngata.

“I'm not sure I would take the Purdue guy (Kawann Short) in the first (round). He scares me even though he had a lot of sack production (during) his career. He reminds me a lot of Jerel Worthy, but he's more of a mama's boy. He was raised by the women in his life.”
So let me get this straight, he is very productive, but because he is in touch with his sensitive feminine side he scares you. Someone needs a little therapy himself, and it's not Kawann. lol.

“I liked Johnathan Hankins. I didn't love him. He's productive flushing production and causing pressure more than actually making plays.”
Could say the same of Mingo.

“LSU gives the 18 jersey to their hardest worker every year. They gave it to Bennie Logan this year. He is a very strong plugger with a thick, athletic build. He looks every bit the part.”
don't know him, but that sounds like a great late round candidate there.

So, not the Ravens scout. And btw, 'bull****' and 'crazy' smell different. I think Manti is messed in the head. The guy says, "I wasn;t affected at all by the stress of this for the bowl game." then says "I ran a 4.82 because of the stress of this." His brain is wired like a bird's nest. Imagine a few concussions thrown in there too. No thankee.

"Kevin Reddick is intense. He's everything you want in a leader. He's smart and instinctive. He just can't run. His speed is average.”
Lol. I feel bad laughing at this one. Why do the guys with all the heart lack the tangibles? Poor kid.

“(Dion) Jordan scares me. I'm not sold on the tall drink of water. Is he a “Sam” in a 4-3?Is he a Von Miller type in terms of how he plays? He doesn't have his explosiveness or power. I like the athleticism in his drops, but his pass rush is pretty ordinary. He's leggy and has trouble powering through people and doesn't get off blocks real well. From being at practice, he scares the (crap) out of me.”
I agree with not being confident in taking Dion, but not in how he is wording it.

Alec Ogletree moves like a DB playing linebacker. He's fast, quick and athletic – he moves like a gazelle. He has run into some trouble off the field and is going to need things kept simple, but I would like to have him.”
Why is this guy never talked about as a top ten pick? I'm curious.

The Seattle comparisons continue so don;t be surprised when he ends up in Seattle. lol.

B.W. Webb stepped up against (Baylor WR) Terrance Williams at the Senior Bowl and shut him down. I was impressed with the way he competed.”
I've heard good things about Webb. And I like Terrance, though I want to watch his Senior Bowl snaps. Anyone know where to find those?

“Corners in the SEC play in the boundary because they throw into the boundary a lot in the southeast. Most of the quarterbacks are not big-armed guys. Patrick Peterson had straight-line speed. Xavier Rhodes has better hips than Peterson for a big guy.”
    Another bump for XR.

If we didn't have Rashad this would be ideal.

“I hear the talk about Matt Elam being one of the top safeties, but I was not overly enamored with him. He would start looking attractive to me in the fourth round. That's where I think he belongs. He plays the ball well, but he's more of a box guy to me.”[/QUOTE]
Thank you. I totally don't get the Elam love either.

That was a huge WTF moment for me too.

This is how pro scouts help billion-dollar organizations assess players who can win football games.

Mindblowingly obtuse and prejudiced.. not to mention totally absurd.

By the way, Chris' Draft Winds column was great. Are you going to do one, despite, you know, being afflicted with non-US citizenship?

That was one that really stood out for me. You're not going to draft a guy because he's not a US citizen...lol, hope to **** he's not a Miami scout.

Some brutal comments in there, but if they're going to make it in the NFL they'll need thick skins.

Have to laugh a bit as it reminds of middle school girls gossiping about other girls...

I'm not seeing Warner as Kerrigan, not at all.

That scouting report, imo, makes Dion Jordan sound a bit like Karlos Dansby, rangy, athletic, but a natural passrusher per se.

I think he will be better then they think.

And to follow the xenophobia, we have a touch a misogyny.

Obviously scouts try to talk about things beyond the football field, and they quickly get out of their element extremely fast. Stick to rotating hips and bench reps.

I did like the mushroom heads reference though.

Very well could be true, he could very well be a mama's boy.

As for the citizenship issue, a club is going to have to determine whether it is likely he could get into a problem that would prevent him from entering the US, a longshot to be sure, but these guys and the NFL in general is so anal it is not even funny.

Like Pioli bugging the offices in KC or Saban thrashing some secretary who dared to talk with him, some of those people are bat **** crazy imo.

@Bpk, LOL at Lance instead of Lane. It was late last night when I typed all that and I was trying so hard to get every detail verbatim. Then to mess up that name. Actually, the scout who commented on Bailey, spelled his name as Steadman and I changed it to the correct Stedman. I have not seen Apocalypse Now in a year or so, so not sure why the name Lance Johnson was in my head. :)

If anything Dion Jordan just went up in my opinion, if his downside is Karlos Dansby his upside could be who knows?

  23. MrClean

I see little similarity between Jordan and Dansby. I'm sticking to Jordan most closely resembling Jason Taylor circa 1997, only a little stronger and faster. As I recall, JT ran a 4.6 forty at his combine in '97. Maybe I'll try to find my old Kiper books. :) I am curious now to what JT ran back then. BRB. Ok, Jason ran a 4.64, did 18 reps @ 225 and had a 32" vertical. Kiper ranked him with the OLBs too.

That is probably his upside, what I'm seeing is more passrushing ability than they acknowledge along with great range in coverage ala Dansby.

We more than likely have no shot at him anyway.

Agree on that. Eagles will take him or a LT if they don't think Peters can come back at the same level.

Heck, he'd make sense to pair with Williams in Buffalo.

Nah, we sold them to the Chinese for some knockoff Ipads and some Pho.

What bothers me about those Scouts stuff is they are to much "right now", no mention of a prospect's game growing.

Did think it funny that Tank Carradine, some Gurus draft crushes, was not exactly showered with praise, which dovetails nicely with my dim view of FSU Dline prospects..do..not..want.

Not I, the Draft is something of a scam to begin with, how many #1 picks just are crappy or mediocre yr after yr?

And yet, when the Draft draws near every player who is chosen with a #1 pick is of course a future All Pro/Hofer. In that light negatives about prospects are simply reality.

The comments that stuck out to me from watching players were the Barrett Jones one (agree completely though I absolutely love the kid; he was average and had studs around him) and the Kelce comment (He looks stiff when he runs - not athletic as a pass receiver as Eifert is).

Thought Bank's assessment was interesting. With his 40 time being 4.6, what are the odds he's still available 2a or 2b for us? Even regardless of his time, I still like him a lot.

I'm guessing he's no better than the 4th corner taken. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he's on the board at 42. I agree. Screw the time. Back in 1997, Sam Madison fell into the 2nd round off a mediocre 40 time, and we got one of our best corners ever. His official time back then was 4.56 and he did only 8 reps on the bench. Nice vert of 36.5" though.
