I think Vontae's grandma hacked his twitter account. It's the only logical explanation.

Let Smith test the market. My thought is his agent has out priced him.
Madison told him making plays would get the cheddar.
My guess is he will be back. Sometime.

Didnt see it referenced but ss24 tweeter flat out that vontae panicked and made up the hacked excuse and explained that he talked to al Harris who was recently hired by the chiefs and that vontae misunderstood him.

Smith ain't gonna let Davis get in the way of him becoming a millionaire

let him walk. not a good corner anyway. they can draft a kid who can't cover and drop INT's for a lot less money

Allowing some of these people instant access to the Internet with their phones has done more to prove the dumb athlete stereotype than the last 200 years of print media.

Boy, I feel like if the team in question tried to excuse it this way, that is stretching things REAL far...it's like as bad as the "my twitter was hacked" excuse. I think we all know what he was asking. But I agree with you it's an inappropriate question and whoever did it, I hope the NFL does find what they need to find. They need to send a message.

I just think this tampering thing is nothing more than a useless distraction. The Dolphins CAN'T pursue it. If the NFL picks it up and decides to independently pursue it that's one thing. But otherwise, no way. The Dolphins spent all weekend talking to agents of players about to be free agents, and everyone knows everyone else's dirty laundry. Hell there's a fair possibility the Chiefs can turn around and accuse the Dolphins of tampering with Dwayne Bowe. And it's probably true.

To be honest I think the whole thing was a naked attempt by Armando to curry favor for the Dolphins.

By creating the appearance of proof of tampering to where the NFL might investigate independently, the Dolphins wouldn't end up looking like the bad guy pushing charges of tampering even though everyone in the league knows everyone else in the league is already doing it. It would be media-driven so they wouldn't necessarily be retaliated against.

Well, to be fair. all Armando did was report what was said on Twitter and just took it to it's logical conclusion.

yeah how does the supposed rule go... a team can talk to agents, but not the player directly right?

As a team, I'd only ever care about in-season tampering. Every GM has ample time to talk to their own pending free agents, that by this time of the offseason they have moved on to talking to other team's pending free agents.

Actually I don't think they're allowed to talk to agents about players.

They can talk to agents about their own players. But there's no way to verify that the conversation didn't include the agent's players on other teams. Thus the loophole and the general inability to enforce tampering rules.

I'd be OK with that. Thanks for taking one for the team, Mando

Seriously, though, I don't even think it was that. It was just reporting. It was obviously newsworthy, and covering the Dolphins, it would've been irresponsible for him to ignore it.

There's a difference between a loophole and something that's hard to prove. It's equally hard to prove that a team actually reached out to and talked to a player directly. That doesn't make it a loophole in the tampering rules. Either one is a clear violation of the rules, it's just difficult to prove.

So why didn't he report all the rumors of the Dolphins having talked to various free agent wide receivers during the Combine?

Because none of those players or their freinds were stupid enough to tweet about it.

It really doesn't matter if he has talked to the Chiefs or not. The reality is that he isn't going to be in a Dolphin uniform next season. The Dolphins aren't going to pay him the money he wants and I don't see them tagging him. Right now it appears that the Dolphins are going to have trouble signing any of their free agents. Their best chance of retaining any of these players is for the Dolphins to franchise Starks, because he is the only free agent they have who is worth the money it would cost to franchise him.

Long, Smith, Clemons, Bush, and Moore will all be playing elsewhere when the new season starts, IMO. Fasano might end up signing with the Dolphins, because he is very average and I don't see any other NFL team offering him a big contract in free agency

My question is, does this create talk in KC about not signing Sean so it doesn't add fuel to this fire.

Which may have cost Sean money, and given the Dolphins more leverage.
