Also included is a conditional draft pick in 2014. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...g-up-a-2013-second-and-change-for-alex-smith/ I'd say the 49ers won this deal. New regime in KC, same results. That 2nd round pick is the top pick in the round. 49ers now have 15 picks in the draft. Good thing they're not in the AFC.
I like this move for KC, they retain the #1 overall and pick up a starting Qb who has won playoff games and is on the uptick For all the talk of CKap, Smith was having a fine year before being benched. 49ers though, are loaded with draft choices, maybe enough to push for Revis if they feel they need him.
I suspect G Smith is a Qb who has been beaten down a bit to much and to often, he is what any other young Qb is a prospect never a sure thing Also wonder if KC would move off the #1 overall to replace the #2's they just used?
Maybe Percy Harvin? Lots of options for the 49ers. Already a good team and an opportunity to make them much better.
I think they got hosed. The 34th pick plus for a career game manager that doesn't allow you to threaten down field. I'm okay with them getting Smith to hold down the fort for a few years while you rebuild and groom a young QB but at the cost of the 34th pick plus a conditional pick in 2014? They got robbed
The Niners are stacked to begin with, wouldn't surprise me to see them use their extra picks to move up and get someone they covet. If they stay, I'd bet one of those top 2 picks is on Zach Ertz
San Fran now has 12 picks and are expected to get 3 compensatory picks. 15 picks for a team that has 19 starters under contract and not many holes. Expect them to be doing a lot of wheeling and dealing come draft day
No way, Smith was 20-5 w/a 95.3 QBR the last two years and is clearly on the upswing. Draft picks can turn out to dog ****, normally they do, how is Marshall for Egnew and a 3rd in 2013 look atm? Anyone else find it funny Reid did not move for a fmr Philly Qb like Foles or whomever he jobbed off onto AZ?
I would agree with you, if there was a better QB option at their first or second pick in this draft. There isn't. They have to have QB change this year. So while they lost their 2nd, they still have the top pick and their others to stock up on. Personally, if I were them, I would have traded their 3rd or 4th for Moore instead. But I get where they were coming form with the Smith deal.
As much as I like MMoore, Alex Smith is just a better Qb, more athletic, more accurate, has won playoff games etc As a general rule, when you can trade a draft choice(s) for a above avg starter, especially at Qb, you should make the move if you need a Qb.
MMoore is much better than Cassel, who is a turnover machine and plays scared in the pocket, all day MMoore over Cassel
Chiefs apparently learned nothing from the Matt Cassell experiment. Alex Smith will be the epitome of mediocre / not good enough without QB whisperer Jim Harbaugh to milk productivity out of him.
Lol alex smith for a 3rd is reaching. No one can actually take QBR seriously on a QB who hardly ever puts the team on his back. He;s 1-5 when throwing 40 passes or more. He can not take over and put a team on the next level. His accuracy dips once you throw past mid range. He's only played 1 full season in all his years in the NFL and he has never thrown for 20 touch downs or thrown more yards than tannehill threw this year LOL! A 2nd rounder and more for a decent SYSTEM game managing QB on a stacked teams is crazy.
How funny, same could have been said of Chad Pennington, yet he just won ballgames At some point, believe it or not, you do have to take a solid starting Qb as the draft just does not continually crap out so called "franchise' Qb's year after year. Smith was 20-5 the last two years and on his way to his best season until being benched after his concussion. Watch KC win games this year and then we shall revisit this thread.
It's my opinion Harbaugh gets the most out of his QBs. Kinda like Andy Reid once did. Then those QBs go to other teams and tend to have their weaknesses exposed under lesser coaching. I honestly don't even remember who KC hired as coach, so maybe it will work out. But I don't think so. I think they'll be only slightly better off than they were with Cassell. I admit it's just an uninformed gut opinion on how it will play out, but I just don't see Alex Smith lighting it up in KC or even winning many games.
The 49ers contributed tothe record, don't act like he ever took over and was the sole reason that he got those wins because he was far from it. He was on his way to his best season yet before kap ever saw the field, they still had a **** load of QB threads on the debate if he is the answer to their QB position. Which is to be expected if you watch the games and not just look at the W/L column. Lol even sanchez has had as much good season as smith in less years and a weaker supporting cast.
They had more pro bowlers then they had wins last yr. As for "thread on Qb's..." Suspect Mr Dolphin 12 should realize Smith was largely a bust for 4 of his 5 yrs in SF prior to Harbaugh showing up, fans being fans recall the bad moreso than the good esp when they have an ax to grind. Do know, Reid does have a good eye for Qb's.
I do, people tend to forget how long SF was in the wilderness, they wound up stockpiling talent, which Harbaugh made the best use of, KC is in a similar situation, Pioli was a tool, he did add lots of talent to that roster.
Or the fact that the fans know he has never shown he can lead his stacked team to the promise land. The guy is 27 with absolutely no upside and has a horrid track record prior to his 2 good years where all he was asked to do was SAFEGUARD the team against turnovers and rely on the run/defense to win games. All-22 and scouting reports to ascertain that Alex Smith had multiple opportunities to prove himself in the league, and didn't (save for 1.5 seasons in which he had a world class defense at his disposal). And let's not act like Reid has been a messiah for QBs, there is a reason he got fired and he did draft Kevin Kolb and gave Michael Vick $100 million after all.
Which how Fa works, add in Ireland does not have the best rep in the league at paying FA's and this idea that somehow we will load up on playmakers in FA just seems laughable to me.
No it was the 49ers and it was a win against a weak defensive team. What a weak argument to my post hardly worth taking seriously. Was it sanchez leading them back to back to AFC champion games? Is a franchise QB? Smith has worse QB play in the playoffs than sanchez lol. He completed 52% of his passes in his only year i the playoffs and won ONE GAME in which the DEFENSE THAT CARRIED THEM TO THE PLAYOFFS forced 5 TURNOVERS. Then he was exposed as a QB that will never lead a team to the promise land the game right after against the giants (which leads to the threads of QBs on their message board this season). 7 years as a QB, 3100 yards a season. has been his limit along with never getting more than 18 turnovers and only 1-1 with 52% cmp rating in the playoffs after 7 years. 2nd round pick! Lol
No because his team was 1-1 hardly "winning"but glad you actually think that warrants a 2nd round pick. With your flawed logic Sanchez must be worth near a 1st round pick since he's done more with less. Agree to disagree when you provide an actual argument for him being worth a 2nd round pick and more.
Butt Fumble is declining, Smith is ascending, why screw up the cha-cha? Why overcomplicate adding Smith, it took him 5 yrs to develop, which in the old days was not that unusual, his last two years have been outstanding, which makes him worth a #2 pick at least, they aren't paying for 05-10, they are paying for 2011 and 2012.
Lebetard said a stat that kind of put Alex Smith into perspective. When his defense let up more than 28 pts or so, Smith won like 2 games. I think he was a product of Harbaugh's system and that defense, where he didn't have to do much.
Not sure, but by the way he asked the question I think it was all time. But would have to look it up to know for sure.
Some of you don't realize that Alex Smith is a PERFECT match for Andy Reid's system. Is pick 34 too much?? Debatable. Bowe will be tagged for sure now IMO, and KC will be contending for a playoff spot.
