My buddy trained MMA.....and from what I knew of his training....it had alot to do with Grappling....much more then say....kicking and punching. If this is how Egnew is training...I think its really to improve his blocking skills....

Oh ok. You meant Dan Campbell when you typed Dan Carpenter. Honest mistake.

Not to me. He looks much faster than Fasano to me. I'd bet a half a tenth faster in the forty at least. It's going to be interesting to see how the TEs all run this weekend. Of the top 5, I'm wagering Escobar smokes them all.

I'll have to watch him again b/c I was thinking 4.8'ish type speed. Fasano ran a 4.72 and was a 2nd rounder so I don't see it as a bad thing being compared to him. I just don't view Kelce as an ideal fit for us, hence much of my lack of excitement. If I had to pick between the two I'd lean toward calling Fasano the more athletic TBH. I wouldn't put Kelse on the level of Martellus Bennett & Marcedes Lewis.

Fasano must have lost some speed since his combine then. No way he looks like a 4.72 guy to me now.

edit: 4.72 was his pro day 40 time. I think that may have been a fluke. His on campus workouts previously showed a 4.88 forty, which seems to me more what he runs now.

Fasano of last year seems of comparable speed to Kelce to me.

With that leg of his, Carpenter would probably have a deadly wheel kick.

Back on topic, I'm glad Egnew is being proactive. If he doesn't pan out, it won't be from lack of trying.

Oh, Finley had his issues. They were a little different than Egnew's issues, but his issues definitely riled up his head coach.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/co...-UT-ex-Jermichael-Finley-s-emergence-1577.ece

He pulled a Brandon Marshall, only the quarterback he was throwing under the bus was Aaron Rodgers.

Here's a link with a quote from Joe Philbin:

    http://lombardiave.com/2008/11/06/jermichael-finley-shut-up/

Everything I've read about Finley during his rookie season states that he showed his athleticism in training camp and in practices but was immature and didn't really understand his role. He was also like most young players at receiving positions in that he wasn't ready for some of the situations he would be placed in where he would have to read the coverage and adjust his route based on the coverage.

With Egnew, I've heard some similar things. I've read where the guy probably had the three most impressive receptions of anyone in training camp and showed his athleticism through practices during the season, but he wasn't quite ready to make the transition to the NFL from a fundamental standpoint.

I'm not saying that Egnew will be the answer long term. What I am saying is that it is entirely too early to declare him a bust, particularly when a guy who he is very similar to from a physical and likely mental standpoint didn't have much more playing time or production as a rookie.

I thought he'd run better. I was wrong. Watching the gauntlet I still think he has the best hands.

he should rather study that playbook, study it and then study it again, after that he should spend some time in the gym and bring his upper body into form and then we´ll see what happens

No reason he can't do both at the same time though!

We've heard he's doing the MMA training, and to me that's a encouraging sign that he's identified weaknesses and is doing something to address them. Following on from that, it's not impossible to imagine that he's also realised he needs to know his playbook better and is falling asleep every night with it in his hands.

Certainly beats hearing about a player spending an offseason non-stop partying and drag-racing supercars.

Seems every year there's some underperforming Dolphin who does some crazy training regiment and us fans get all excited. Remember John Beck throwing a zillion passes? My guess is if Egnew had anything to show the NFL we would have seen a little of it by now. But here's hoping...

Was Finley INACTIVE for all but the last game of that season ? Did he play in more than one game ?

After seeing some of those guys yesterday in the Underwear Olympics, Ireland better make sure Egnew turns out if he passes on them in the draft. He'll have even more questions about his evaluation process and ability to answer too.

Claymore, any interest in Rugby ? Big fan here - Leinster in Pro12, Harlequins in Premiership, Castres in Top 14 and Highlanders in Super Rugby. Not much into league rugby, but prefer union. It was nice to see Scotland beat up on Italy a couple of weeks ago at Murrayfield. Any chance for Scotland today against Ireland ? Murrayfield should be a wild scene today.

Favorite players are Mike Brown (Harlequins & England), Brian O'Driscoll (Leinster & Ireland), Jamie MacIntosh (Southland & Highlanders) and Quade Cooper (Reds and Australia).

Pro Days are notorious for setting the 40 at like 38½ or 39 yards.......helps their players out.

Yes, big rugby fan and used to play it in my younger days. I'm an Edinburgh fan in the Pro12, surprise, surprise! They're having a very poor season this year though, after looking like they were on the up last season. Not a big fan of League either, which is strange because it's probably closer to Football than Union is, but I just can't get into it much.

I wouldn't have given Scotland much chance against Ireland today but, even though Ireland dominated the game, Scotland somehow came away with a 12-8 win. Not the prettiest game to watch, but enthralling never the less. First time Scotland have won two games in a row in the Six Nations since 2001...brutal record for the last decade.

Brian O'Driscoll is a phenomenal player, probably the best that Ireland have ever produced. He's getting older now though, so will be interesting to see how they replace him.

No. Notice I ended the post, "here's hoping." I'm just not getting my hopes up and I think odds are well against him. Most of the time players that are going to make it in the NFL show something in their rookie year. And most of the time their teammates don't anonymously refer to them as "huge *******" to the media. But there are exceptions to everything so once again, here's hoping Egnew can make something happen.

Eggy is like 23, I was a dipsh*t at 23. I am going to reserve judgement until after this year. He may be the next 3rd rd bust but he also could surprise. I am hoping he is a different dude in training camp and proves critics wrong.

Pretty much agree with that with one caveat. Egnew is coming from a system in college that translates slowly. Jared Cook (9 catches 74 yards) wasn't doing much either. Although, it was better than 0 for 0 lol. With Egnew's physical ability, he should of done something (like you said) but it doesn't necessarily make or break his career. As you said, the odds are long considering all that we know about him (hard knocks, media, production, etc...) but those physical tools... They give me some (false?) hope...

Dennis Pitta came out of a pretty prolific passing offense and had 1 catch for 1 yard as a rookie and played 86 snaps.
