I don't mean to single you out, but you don't know any of that. This kind of just flat out assumption accepted as fact is baffling to me.

    LOL.

The Reason Wallace doesn't have a high RAC is because he is always catching the ball 60 yards down the field. The Guy has a career 10.0 YPT. He is highly productive.

Compared to Ariens' offense it is.

IMO, Warmack is taken before we pick at 12. I'd be fine with taking him if he's there though. Tennessee seems like the most likely landing spot for Chance.

The media needs something to talk about before March 12th. Same as many of us do.

I don't know that it is inherently disastrous as much as rather perilous. I think it is possible that you would get a good outcome, but it would require particularly good management from both personnel and coaching staffs.

You need to recruit both, you need both to be happy with their roles, you need to pay them reasonable salaries. You need to structure those salaries in a way you can address other needs, and not subject yourself ****ty cap situations down the line.

I don't agree you've got to completely throw out your offense with Mike Wallace, but you're making significant concessions which have trade-offs that I don't think you can be sure are worth it, and they might be difficult to balance with all the other moving parts.

Between Fisher, Warmack, and Lane Johnson, I think it is likely only one makes it to the 12th pick. Fisher being the least likely.

Don't agree, Jennings is older, and truly this happens all the time in sports.

I agree, their history has shown their respective workloads they've been productive with are pretty well something you can manage together and in an overall reasonably equitable offense.

Jennings was in Green Bay with James Jones who caught 10+ last year...don't agree. Different receiver skillset too.

I don't know, how about you as Joe who is probably telling Ireland to go sign Wallace?

Ever think you can modify an offense you know that works? Who said anything about scrapping?

I get saying that about a first ballot hall of famer, but a really good flavor of the week player? Wallace isn't Rice or Moss or Megatron or anything.

Considering that Roethlisberger before last season had one of the highest YPAs of any QB in NFL history, no, it really doesn't.

Yes, considering that the point still stands. The fact he was less vertical does not mean he was dink and dunk. Roethlisberger's YPA was still 11th highest in the league.

I think if Todd Haley came out and said his offense was dink and dunk you'd still stick to your position and blame it on alcohol or something. :D

    Admit it, you were wrong.

Average pass travelled 5 yards for a whole game, 30+ throws!

Wallace has had 4 very solid to excellent seasons. His down season was 800 yards and 8 TDs. He's not a flavor of the week. Yes he's not a hall of famer but that's a very high standard. Neither was Gronkowski and Hernandez as rookies but a good coach recognizes a weapon and will use it. Keep in mind the past 3 years everyone knew he was going to run deep and he still killed them. If he can learn to run moderate routes a little better (indications were he progressed a bit last year) he can be really really good.

YPA can be misleading. Such as throwing a short pass to Wallace who takes it 80 yards. How far does the pass travel is a better indicator. I don't know how to look that up but as of 10/25 Rothy was 25th in the league. The year before he was 7th.

    back to the OP

Although this is unlikely to happen I would love to see it. You may wind up with one of them having a meltdown eventually but it would be a calculated risk one that could heavily benefit this team. Jennings could slide into a mentoring role and you would not have to change your offense if on of them got injured

You make it seem like Wallace isn't a 1000 yard, 8 TD per year receiver who probably leads the NFL is average yards per target at 10.0.

??? It "works"? Are you referring to the Bess & Hartline tailored offense that ranked 27th in points/game, 30th in receiving TDs per game, and 22nd in net yards per attempt?

So you believe it's ok to initially tailor the offense to accommodate Bess & Hartline (which Philbin & Sherman did) but it's not ok to re-tailor it for a better player like Wallace? That makes no sense. You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, right. I don't understand why you think an offense ranked 27th in points would remain Philbin's offense by choice if allowed an opportunity to change it up. I could understand if we were a top 5 offense, but it's just silly IMO to think Philbin would prefer to stick to one that clearly doesn't maximize production potential and is easier for defenses to defend against.

Not it's not. That doesn't make sense to me. You have the best vertical threat in football and a big-arm QB who can throw a great deep ball. How does this say more about Ben than Haley?

Roethlisberger has made his money hanging around the backfield avoiding sacks and using that extra time to let receivers make it downfield. Going to anything that has any type of timing element - or isn't allowing him to take the most sacks in the league - is going to seem like dink and dunk when in reality it just isn't as extreme.

He's flavor of the week and will be forgotten when he retires.

The Pats are a poor example. They have no set system, so they are not an example of a rigid system changing to accommodate different types of players.

    Here and there
Given that LT is more of a premium position I wouldn't disagree with you, but given the choice if there at 12 Fisher would be the choice if Long isn't signed. I wouldn't be upset with any of the three.

I highly doubt that Joe Philbin is telling Jeff Ireland to go after Mike Wallace. If there is an order to do that, then it is coming from Stephen Ross, who wants the flashy plays that Wallace will bring without regard to what it will do to the offense.

What you are asking Joe Philbin to do is two fold. First, you are asking him to accept a player that will be paid like an elite receiver and also likely placate to said player with targets. Second, you are asking him to take his passing concepts which are based upon each receiver position being capable of running a full route tree and being interchangeable and alter it to fit a guy who is nothing more than a vertical receiving threat. Basically, you are asking him to play Jordy Nelson's position in this offense but not do the things that Jordy Nelson does in this offense. You are also asking him to put a below average route runner overall into a passing offense that is based upon timing.

It's easy for fans to think that it is just as simple as altering the offense to utilize a player's ability, but in reality, it isn't that simple. Particularly with these West Coast Offense guys who believe in their system probably more than they do the players within the system.

If Wallace is signed I refuse to believe it's not with Philbin's wholehearted approval, just as the trade of Marshall had his full approval.

So you think Joe and Mike will be on board with bringing in a guy for major money that is going to effectively limit their ability to call and set up plays with his limited route tree?
