Thought this was interesting; it definitely shows the importance of this draft to our team. It also shows the Ross is willing to pay and do whatever he thinks is necessary to help this franchise win. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/cfb/131875/lane-johnson
Why is there still lingering doubt about this? Ross made Brandon Marshall the highest paid receiver in the NFL.
To me that sends a strong message to the rookies, the agents and the rest of the NFL, that Miami is on a mission.
I would guesstimate between 10-20. You would obviously have the coach, GM, psychiatrist, and a couple scouts.
He always goes. He's always in town for Shrine practices too, usually at the hotel grilling prospects on their past. I assume he does the same at the Senior Bowl.
I think this screams that we are going in the direction of adding a majority of our new players via the draft this year.
Sounds like Ross is giving Jeff no room for making excuses on missed draft picks. He is giving him every possible input that he can.
Found the others: BTW we should change the name of the thread to Dolphins bringing the Circus to the Combine
I wasnt being sarcastic and its not a hate post against Ireland. All I meant was that it sounded like Ross is paying for every possible mind to be involved in the predraft evaluation. That looks to me as if they are putting extra effort into getting an accurate feel for all the rookies. If you put that much effort into the process and you miss on a pic how does that look. It will fall on Ireland if he misses on his picks and he cant say he did not have enough people to create an accurate draft board. He has 54 guys grading players.
Hey, guys, people who look at the team's record since Ireland came aboard and count how hany of his draft picks are still on the team, and how they are performing, are entitled to have a negative opinion of Ireland. You may not agree, but it's not as if there's no factual support at all for it.
Ireland brings everybody to the combine - He Sucks Ireland goes to the combine by himself - We are going to suck because he sucks and only cares about prostitution. Ireland doesn't go and only the scouts and Philbin go - Ireland sucks because he didn't even find it necessary to go to the combine Ireland and Jesus go to the combine - Ireland sucks because he needs Jesus to go to the combine with him Ireland goes to combine and drafts 3 future HOFers - Ireland Sucks because clearly it was Joe Philbin who made the picks. This is the WORST "choose your own adventure" book ever. You can read it five times and they all lead to the same ending. I keep falling into the pit of doom no matter if I choose to save the space lizards or not!!
That's certainly true, but also not the problem. The problem is the people who use every post to rant about how horrible Ireland is over and over and over. Let's be realistic here, one side has started protests and hired plane signs while the other side has said we need more info. Its not hard to see which side are being emotional nut jobs.
I find myself contributing less b/c that's all some threads are. If the extent of a poster's contribution is to claim we're doomed b/c of the GM over and over then I don't think much of their intelligence. It's not like people are starting a ton of threads saying Ireland is great. It's primarily a one sided thing from the negative side.
This could be one of the biggest drafts of all times for the Dolphins if everything falls in place. It makes perfect sense for the Dolphins to leave no stone unturned. Ireland knows this is a make or break draft and season for him and he knows he needs all of the help he can get. This doesn't have to be a perfect draft and preseason for Ireland but a successful draft and free agency can go a long way toward restoring faith in him and his management. A less than "successful" draft and free agency will more than likely cost Ireland a lot of the fans support who still have faith in him.
I won't imply it, I'll say it. When, as a consultant, companies called us into assess whether to fire an employee first we radically upped the monitoring of every detail of his performance. If Ireland is in a prove it year, this will give Ross the certainty and information to make a call on Ireland. PLUS it helps us actually do Better at the combine and evals. Heck, this may have been Ireland's idea since he needs a strong draft. Maybe he knows he needs to har a great offseason and is making dang sure of it. Regardless of the intentions, this creates greater transparency within the organization, greater accountability and hopefully better evaluations. It's also a nice experience for staff so we can develop our scouts and coaches internally and prepare them to move up. This is a win for fans. That's what matters.
I hear one of the 55 is a Make-A-Wish kid who will be hand-timing the 40 yard dashes... For the kickers.
