Hmm, wonder if it's medical. Not that he's not a greasy stain that doesn't deserve a job due to his behavior, but this would be about the time he'd have his physical results back no?
He will play football again. It had to be over contract dispute/threats because there has been no interaction with players yet. They did hire a coach from Detroit. Who knows. Getting back to the Philbin thing about not liking players that have a checkered past. I do not know if thats true or not so cannot comment but do know the Rams hired Spagnuolo away from the Giants as HC and he tried doing just what people are talking about. Not bothering with players with character issues or had some checkered iteams and the Rams were crushed for the 3 years Spagnuolo was there. They got worse each year instead of improving so coaches not wanting players that are considered troublesome not doing well in the NFL has some merit.
That's a possibility, but there's been no whispers of an injury...so, as it's Young, I'd probably go with DePhinistr8's diagnosis!
When someone is picked up off of waivers the player usually has to take a physical within 24 hrs after the transaction is complete. Now, Young may have been on vacation or out of the country and avoided the physical until recently, do not know. Whatever it is the rumor mill will be buzzing. Only player I am interested in from the Rams who will probably be released is Steven Jackson. I think he is a great fit for this offense. Yep, he is aging but he has a few good years of power pound em football left in him
Brandon Marshall on steroids, but without half the talent, right ?? Seriously, you have to wonder about a guy who got picked up 10 days ago and has been cut already and it's in the offseason ?? I'm not too sure, unless they've reached some sort of agreement in principle with Bowe and only picked him up for insurance in case they didn't ??
I think he'd be the perfect guy to pair with Miller. Give him a nice 3 yr deal and 8-12 carries a game. Kinda like Ricky when he came back.
I would still kick the tires on Young. Just because St. Louis claimed him off of waivers that means he wanted to play there ? The young man evidently speaks his mind. Kick his tires. Can't be any worse then kicking the tires on a worn out Olineman like they did last summer or a WR that nobody else wanted in the NFL. You do not get ahead in the NFL without taking some risks now and then. If he gets out of control have Incognito and Pouncey take him behind the practice bubble and make him realize how ultra bad of a weapon he could be on this team.
I don't like bringing in old vets but if SJax would be reasonable I'd love to have him and spend more of our resources elsewhere. I'd prefer a 1-2 year deal though.
if he becomes a FA its because HE is voiding the final year of his deal which would pay him 7 million, so you think you could have him for reasonable $$$ ?
Depends why he's voiding it. If it's bc he just wants out of STL then yes. You really think someone would give him 7 mil a year or anywhere near that on the open market?
I wouldn't give him more than say 3.5 unless we've already locked up big priorities and have a little dough to throw around.
Not really. Young is still on waivers after being released by the Rams. Since he has less then 4 years acrued service/time in the NFL he must go on the waiver wire. From late July until December a player that is released, that has less then 4 years acrued in the NFL, is on the waiver wire for 24 hrs. That means the teams that picked first in the draft of that year, in this case 2012 have the first right to claim him. In this case the Rams picked second and Indy did not put in a waiver claim so he went to the Rams. If two teams put in a waiver claim on him the team that had the higher pick in the 2012 draft gets him. Now. During the offseason or outside of the span I mentioned above. If a player is released with less then 4 years acrued time in the NFL he is on the waiver wire for 10 full days. During that time he can be picked up, or claimed, by any team. In the case of more then one team putting a claim in for the player, the team with the higher draft pick from the 2012 draft wins the claim. If he was released yesterday by the Rams Feb 15th, he is on the wire until Feb 25th. During that time he may be claimed by any team but the draft pick scenario controls who he goes to. If he passes the 10 days and nobody claims him , he then becomes an unrestricted free agent capable of signing anywhere of HIS choice. I believe this young man is looking to become unrestricted and will pull more douchery on any team that claims him. Unless of course its a team he actually wants to be at which is anybodys guess. If another team claims him and then releases him he is then on the waiver wire an additional 10 day period and so on. Its possible every team claims him, keeps him for 5 days and releases him LOL, if THAT goes on until the middle of October he becomes an unrestricted free agent anyway. Somebody is going to pick this kid up whether it be on the wire or as a FA.
A risk is a risk my friend. Its no different then playing the market. Want to play it safe ? No problem, there is plenty available but you will not make much money quickly. On the other hand if you have enough capitol to take a chance, there is a myriad of opportunities available to make a fortune by the end of the business day. Or, you can lose your shirt. Thats risk, this player is risk but no one knows what kind of pay out you will get or not get until you throw your hat into the arena. Right now it costs nothing, nada because players outside of a small diem payment for OTAs and a tiny check for pre season games, get paid nothing until the second week of the season. Until that ime, it costs us or anyone else almost nothing to kick the tires. This locker room has survived Brandon Marshal, it has survived Chad big mouth Ocho Cinco. It would survive this kid with no problem. I would still go ahead with plans already in the fire on WRs but if the kid worked out ? Sheeesh, like I said, he is going to play somewhere.
I'm sorry, did Marshall and Chad ever lined up improperly on purpose? Because last time I checked, they didn't.
Chad never lined up anywhere and as far as Marshal goes, dude, he magically dropped the easiest of passes to catch sometimes and in good weather. In Chicago now he catches anything thrown within a half mile of him so year, Marshal did not want to be here IMO.
I'm bumping this thread in light of Young's 3rd arrest in 1 week. I'm curious if after our offseason and draft, if people are still willing to consider passing on him a mistake?
I never considered it a mistake to begin with to pass on this guy. There's clearly something very wrong here. He's a danger to himself and others. Omar says he's manic/depressive.
Guy is making a run for Maurice Clarett's title. All he needs is a witness, a bullet proof vest and a bunch of ammo.
There have been several. Remember Dimitrius Underwood? JJ was gonna straighten him out. No such luck. Later in his career, Alonzo Spellman had some issues. Could be bi-polar. Could be manic depressive. I'm no Sigmund Freud, but I don't think the two conditions are the same.
When we did pass on him, none of us really had enough info on his background to say whether or not it was a mistake IMO. Teams like Miami did though, so ya had to figure they knew what they were doing when they passed. On the surface, it would appear to the casual observer, that there was a solid NFL WR available. There was so much more to it, as most of suspected then, and know for sure now.
In hindsight. I never professed myself back then to be an authority on the inner workings of Titus Young's mind. That 30 teams passed on him indicated something was amiss though. More than just his well documented issues in Detroit. So, I just figured they all knew more than we did.
I do agree that the probably knew more, however I do feel I knew enough at the time to be glad Miami did not sign him.
