I remember when I got Chris Harris for McKnight, and Marcus Dixon last year. If only we got to keep our players.
I strongly disagree. Even when Brady's team is either lacking or injured around him, he can still carry them to 2 near SB wins (lost both due to a single insane catch that extended a drive IIRC). On the other hand, Elway's first 3 SBs featured a 49.5 QBR, 45.5%, 2 TD, 6 INT. Brady's first 3 SBs: 99.9 QBR, 65.7%, 6 TD, 1 INT. (and Brady did it with a surrounding offensive cast that was no better in talent) In Elway's 2nd SB (5th year in league): Denver jumped to a quick 10-0 lead, then Elway went on an incompletion spree (completing just 2 of 13 for 18 yards and an INT) and allowed Washington to pull ahead with a nice halftime lead. Finished with a 36.8 QBR. 37% completions. In Elway's 3rd SB (7th year in the league): 19.4 QBR (38%, 108 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT). Started the game 2 for 11 (both to running backs) and 6 for 20 with 64 yards in the first half. Elway was 0-5 on 1st half 3rd down conversions. Then he opened the 2nd half with two INTS on back to back drives and never gave Denver's top ranked scoring D a chance to get off the field as San Fran ran 45 plays in the first half, racking up a 27-3 lead. Plus, the back to back INTs resulted in immediate Montana TDs on each subsequent play. Meanwhile, Brady won SB MVP honors during his 2nd & 4th year. If Brady had the healthy, potent offense around him that Elway had for his 2 wins, and with the #6 & #8 ranked scoring defense, he'd win the SB every year. Elway is NOT on top, not even close. Elway didn't become a HOFer until surrounded by elite talent, whereas Brady won 3 SBs before the elite talent even showed up. .... and Brady won those MVP honors with Antoine Smith at running back, not the greatest post season running back of all time- Terrell Davis...... with Jermaine Wiggins & Daniel Graham at TE, not HOFer Shannon Sharpe..... with a mix of Troy Brown, David Patten, and Deion Branch at WR, not Rod Smith & Ed McCaffrey (combined 18,000 yards and 123 TDs).
Good points. Brady has never been that bad in Super Bowl, although he certainly has had two mediocre performances the past two SB losses. I'm saying that if you flipped his SBs, we'd be saying for a few years that he couldn't come through in the final 2 minutes and didn't play his best on the biggest stage. Obviously not the case, but the perception would have been different for a long time. Also, just some interesting reading while we're on the subject. http://www.footballperspective.com/are-the-super-bowl-winning-qbs-getting-worse/
but we're not saying that, b/c it didn't happen, b/c Brady did actually come through early in his career.... and then later in his career when the defense behind him was a shell of its former self and his offense couldn't stay healthy in the post season, he still carried his team to SB appearances that he really shouldn't have had any business being in from the start. I get your point, but we can't flip the situations to make Brady's post season appear different. If you're gonna do something like that then you need to sub in a healthy dose of Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, McCaffrey, Rod Smith, and a top 8 ranked scoring D just as Elway was afforded during his 2 end-of-career SB wins. If not for those 4 guys at RB, TE, and WR at the end of Elway's career, there's a chance he might not be in Canton. Brady won 3 SBs (2 MVPs) without that type of ridiculous surrounding cast. How many more would he have won with that cast and with a top 8 D behind him?
My original argument wasn't that Brady hasn't been great throughout his career. He obviously is one of the all-time greats. I'm just saying that perceptions of people are made early on and then it's hard to break them. The fact that Brady won often early in his career lends us to the conclusion that he's one of the most clutch QBs of all time (fair statement). But if it was flipped and he was average in two Super Bowl losses or lost in a handful of AFC championships before breaking through, we might view him as Peyton Manning...even if Brady had the exact same production he does now, just flipped. Interesting debate on it in BS report podcast from a few weeks ago if you have time...check out 27 minute mark or so: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=8850677 So I guess to my original point: Ryan has a reputation for performing poorly in the playoffs, which isn't necessarily fair. His last two performances against Top 10 defenses were stellar and he's still about to enter the prime of his career at 27-years-old. Who knows what he does in the future, but it's logical to conclude that he's getting better as he gets more experienced.
would appreciate it if teams posted the positions and salaries in the trade thread. This isn't romper room.
I'm not going to say who it is... but one particular GM has impressed me and frankly surprised me this year. He's my front runner for GM of the year.
I hate to lose Elvis, but his 12.45M cap number was too heavy for me to digest, now I'll roll with Kareem Jackson, Vontae Davis, Champ Bailey, Richard Marshall, Aaron Williams in a no fly zone.
Thanks Paul, but I just try and have fun every year and really just do what sets up the most fun for me down the road, FA and drafting and screwing Buckeye anyways I can
Lol, Jackson and Williams are busts, mash all may die in the offseason, Bailey is old and we all know davis
Kareem Jackson is no bust. He was pretty darn solid the past 2/3 years. Davis is my ideal NCB, and Bailey can still cover as well. Troy Polomalu will help them out.
I don't think so. Just have to plan FA accordingly. Well you wont. We don't even run the same schemes!
