I don't know why kids wanna get out of Miami. Doesn't make sense. 2014 is already considered one of the deepest classes ever in SoFla history. With Coley and Cristobal on board, there is no excuse not to hit big.
I just don't understand having so few south Florida recruits. Yes, it's a really small class but you have to stick with your backyard and especially if its a hotbed for talent. Dan Sileo is totally ripping the program once again. He is right in a way but I cannot stand his constant bashing of his own school!
I don't get it. And it isn't for a lack of effort either. They kept a lot of kids home last year, but it's the total opposite this year.
In stunning move, Alex Collins wavering on Arkansas signing In a National Signing Day surprise, South Plantation star running back Alex Collins did not sign with the University of Arkansas as planned Wednesday morning and was absent from the school’s signing ceremony. South Plantation athletic director Mike Collins was vague about Alex Collins’ absence, but noted “more due diligence needs to be done on the family’s side of things,” and confirmed that the running back had not signed a national letter-of-intent with any college. “We’re going to give the family as much time as they need to make the right decision,” Mike Collins told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “At this time there’s no indication of anything other than the original plan. The family just wants more time.” http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-on-arkansas-signing-20130206,0,7478430.story
I think they totally screwed up with the Booker T duo which could have landed them two more from here. Yes, it is a small class so you want it to be special but I'm betting they either learned a leason from all this or they totally screwed themselves for future recruits from here.
Keep in mind from a recruit's pov, the NCAA investigation is a huge negative. Bowl bans, loss of scholarships no TV etc etc Why risk it?
Everyone knew he was only gonna be there for a year or two when he signed. Well, except for Brissett, somehow.
So what did I miss with all of this BTW Ice Harris vs Golden over a pulled scholly ridiculousness? Looks like Golden self imposed a a scholly limit hence the tiny class. Wasn't the best class by any means but a good job considering the ****ty situation. Still a pretty good class if you care about star averages, which I don't. Hate that we didn't land any stud DT's, but love the signings of Muhammad and Bond at DE/Rush LB. Losing Thomas to FSU sucks but Grace is a very good consolation prize. Got 2 very good TE's which we've needed badly. Coley is an absolute stud. Made a great effort at fixing our safety issues with Burns and Carter. And obviously the biggest get in the entire class being Kevin Olsen.
No one knows 100% sure, but the gist of it is out there. However, since they were under a tight limit for schollies, Golden asked DK to commit last Thursday. DK said not yet because he wasn't sure yet. This is where it gets interesting. Kirkland and his family has already said that he would decide on Feb 1st and then let all the coaches know where he was going, but he still wouldn't commit on the night of Jan 31st? So Golden pulled the scholly knowing they didn't have many spots to work with (which we found out in his presser) and obviously didn't think of DK as a Thomas, Bryant, Bostwick, or Coley type of player because, as far we know, he never did that to any other recruit. Enter Ice Harris. He reacts like a child and goes immediately to Manny Navarro and puts the staff on blast. Unsurprisingly, Ice was not aware of the deadline DK and his family already set (Feb 1st), so he was spouting off nonsense without knowing what happened exactly. He goes on to say, "I won't ever steer a kid away from Miami, but I'm never gonna help them again." or something along those lines. All in all, it had to do a lot with communication with everyone involved. And regarding Thomas....I don't think we lost him due to this. Miami had apparently been recruiting him the hardest forever, but still took a BS mid week OV. I don't believe he was ever coming here.
According to Barry Jackson, they thought they were getting Thomas. He also said they were told at one point that Coley was going to FSU, but Golden flipped him. As for the Kirkland thing, I find it hard to believe he was set to go to Miami. Golden seems like a very calculated guy and if they felt there was a good chance he was coming I doubt they would have pulled the sholarship. I honestly feel they would have only pulled it if they felt there was something fishy going on.
http://www6.miami.edu/alumni/eblasts/newsrelease20130208.htm Let's hope he knows what he is doing. I was actually a fan of Eichorst who brought in Golden and Coach L.
But I didn't say it because of NC. They deserve to, at the very least, get plenty of first place votes. I'm guessing they get the number three ranking behind Zona, and Zaga...
I don't see UM being #1, yet. Beat Duke in Cameron Indoor and then you're #1. Let's be honest, when you look at all the bracketology going around, Duke is still #1 in a regional. Plus, I think there are some people with votes who haven't bought into UM, yet. This week, Top 5 for sure.
Some interesting news I've seen posted about this team over the past two days... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8932315/miami-hurricanes-show-title-potential-win-north-carolina-tar-heels-college-basketball http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/75698/why-miami-should-be-no-1 I've said it before, as a long suffering UM basketball fan, I could not be more proud of this team and its spunk. They're confident but not cocky. Hoping to take my five year old to the last game at home vs Clemson. He's never been to a basketball game. What a way to get him started.
UM lands another football signee.... CORAL GABLES — Signing day was six sunsets ago, but Miami wasn't done. UM adds another two-sport commit for fall..... CORAL GABLES — And they're not done yet. Miami picked up a surprise commitment for the 2013 recruiting class when a Nashville athlete took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. "Just committed to the university of Miami been my favorite school since I was little #blessed glad this over with," Elder posted. According to the Tennessean, Elder rushed for 2,618 yards and 39 touchdowns last season. On the basketball floor, he's scoring 21.2 points a game. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...hurricanes-news-0214-20130213,0,7495057.story Our class keeps growing!
