Besides craving a receiver with the speed to beat defenses deep, Miami will target players that also have the elusiveness to create more yards after catch on intermediate routes. Anthony Fasano’s 2.2 YAC average was worst among starting tight ends, 60th of 62 overall. Brian Hartline is a keeper, but his 3.4 YAC average was better than only four receivers that played even nearly as much. Incidentally, the Colts’ T.Y. Hilton, whom Miami passed up to take Michael Egnew, had a 7.7 YAC average – fifth in the league – mostly from the long TD passes that were missing from Miami’s offense. Good to see that they are quite aware of issues with short yardage and the ability to break tackles. Wonder if this might bring someone like Eddie Lacy into play if he's around in round 2 or maybe even a Shonn Greene if the contract fits.
Daniel Thomas' short-yardage performance wasn't awful this year. He wasn't top 20 in 3rd and short conversions, but he had overall a high 3rd down % and was one of the least frequently stuffed backs in the NFL.
It is both imo , you need to have wide receivers and tight ends that make a difference , not just provide ok or mediocre production. Which is what we have , again imo.
If only Brian Hartline could actually take more than two steps without falling over from the gentle ocean breeze.
Thomas had a better yac than bush.. Miller/lacy combo looks very attractive to me, sign Jennings, sign Jake, sigh Randy, concentrate on Lacy and Eifert, still have 3 high draft picks left and some money to spend.
this is all the more reason I want the idiot Ireland fired . in years past I could comfort myself with some hope but I just dont see any rebounding until Ireland is gone. Now if Miami should sign some really good Players I shall retract my comments and for our sake I hope to be able to take back these comments but knowing the sorry *** gm I have a bad ,bad feling we will be saying the same things next year.
