TE for the ravens he is a restricted free agent in 2013. It is expected he will have a 2nd round Tender. Would be worth taking a look at? from rotoworld Dennis Pitta - TE - Ravens Dennis Pitta caught four balls for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII win over the 49ers. Pitta's second-quarter goal-line touchdown gave Baltimore a 14-3 lead. Other than the score and a nine-yard gain down the right sideline, Pitta was a surprisingly small factor on Super Bowl Sunday. A restricted free agent going on age 28, Pitta figures to receive a second-round tender after a breakout regular season. He'll return as a low-end TE1 in 2013 fantasy football.
I don't think he rates that highly vs the guys who would theoretically be available without the use of a draft pick.
Not only that but teams are shying away from the whole restricted tag attempts. I don't believe there was a single bid last year on a restricted.
I still think our biggest issue with TEs is that our oline needs them to block more so they are targets less.
The Ravens won't let him go unless they get strangled by Joe Flacco's contract, which could happen. He was one of my favorite players coming out and I'm glad to see him so successful. I just don't know if it's realistic to pry him out of there even if we are willing to pay the 2nd round pick.
well if we are to improve wont we need to get a pass catching tightend ? I know one draft site has us picking the TE from Noter Dame
They'll most likely resign him, he's been coming on strong and seems to have an evolving "Jason Witten" effect with Joe Flacco.
Hes a nice young player but if youre giving me a choice betweem Keller or Cook for just cash or Pitta for the cash + a 2 its got to be Keller or Cook. Even if you want to argue Pitta is better then Cook or Keller is it so much better that its worth a 2 as well? No way.
I think he's that much better than Keller. Don't know about Cook because Cook brings inconsistent effort to the table. When he's on, no Pitta isn't worth so much more than Cook that he's worth a 2nd rounder on top of the contract. But when Cook is off...
I would flat out take Keller over Pitta irregardless of a 2nd. Id probably take Pitta over Cook because of aforementioned inconsistent effort but if it cost me a second round pick to do it, Id probably just draft a TE.
I also agree that Pitta is much better than Keller. I'm not sure about using our second though. However, I can't say it'd be a horrible idea either. I just generally prefer to draft our own.
i would be cool with it. I would trade a 2nd rounder for any young player at any position who is above average at his position and I feel he is. In terms of salary cap I would have to see the contract. Not sure if you want to overspend for a TE
I agree that Id take Keller over Pitta, even if both were UFA, but with a 2nd rounder attached, no way. We need to get the TE through free agency, then use the pick on another big need. We cant waste it on a position we can improve via other means.
I can't wait to see Dustin Keller away from Mark Sanchez. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people (pending he doesn't go to Arizona)
Exactly. He can produce at least what someone like Aaron Hernandez or Tony Gonzalez did this year if he gets good QB play. 800-900 yards should be easy for a guy that talented. Does his blocking need work, yeah but he does try.
I'd hate to see what not trying looked like if that's trying. He's about as much as a candy-*** as you can call a 250lb. professional football player.
This is all nil if the Ravens put a 1st round tender on him I would be surprised if Pitta recieves more than the league minimum it would only be $630,000 for 2013. He is a resticted free agent and as it has been pointed out there are rarely ever attempts made to get them. If the Ravens do pay him a decent amount I would be surprised if it is this year with Flacco making atleast 20 mil in 2013 they are going to put off paying Pitta. I would love to have Keller or Cook but I honestly dont see us paying for a WR and TE this year. I asked myself would i rather we spend a possible second round pick on a unproven TE or one that is slightly older but is coming into his own. I believe we could get him fairly cheap if he signed contracts for the league minimum it would be less than 2.9 mil for 4 years. Now i doubt he would sign for the minimum but doubling that might make him consider it. The counter would probally be to triple it with a compromise somewhere in between them. So a four year deal with a option for a fifth some where between $6 mil and 10$ mil
