I just liked hearing all the great things he had to say about Joe. It puts to rest sore of the concerns about him getting asking with the players. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
I have a huge feeling he is headed to Miami. Loves coach Philbin and has put his house up for sale in GB
Would love to see him in a Dolphins uniform, provided he's 100% back to health and performance what he was 2 years ago. Even if less he's still a serious upgrade over what we have now.
The guy wants to be a Dolphin. Make it happen Ireland. OT, but Jennings sounds almost identical to Kid Cudi in interviews.
That's pretty awesome. The odds would seem pretty good he ends up in a Dolphins uniform. Although I thought Reggie Wayne had a great chance last year.
You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment. Teflon Jeff would rather scrap the bottom of the barrel when it comes to FA WR acquisitions. Just wait and see.
Just remember people, as in Hard Knocks, its Aponte who deals with the contracts for players not Ireland in particular. Remember the scene where he was asking what was going on with Tannehill's contract, and saying just wanted to get it done? Aponte need not screw this up, moreso than Jeff Ireland.
Thats ridiculous. If Dawn Aponte is over ruling our GM, this organization is more f**ked than even I thought.
Me too bro. Can you imagine how much better we'd be with Wayne (had we signed him last year), and Jennings?
I don't think that's how it works. you know, in companies, the executives try to work together. they each have their own responsibilities, but still communicate.
No. I mean the guy that traded the same guy for 2 3rds. Or the guy that thought Legeadu Naanee and Chad Johnson were the answers to our WR problems. I know, I know. None of it was Ireland's fault.
Prove right now he could have got more for Marshall. You can't, because he couldn't. He got the most he could for him. There weren't a whole lot of options out there for WR. Ireland explored all of them. At no point did he say it was fixed. At no point did he stop trying. Stop with the emotional charged assumptions that are simply not true.
Whatever. I'm not getting into the Marshall trade again. Sorry I even brought it up (Actually, I didn't. I should say, sorry for responding to old recycled crap.) The point is, so far his track record has been not to spend on FA WR. Now everyone is just assuming he is going to. I'm just saying we should temper our excitement about getting Jenning or Wallace or whoever it is you covet via FA.
You do realize Aponte was the one trying to put certain language in Tannehill's contract, and that was one of the hold ups right?
And who said she over ruled him? Her doing the contracts has nothing to do with over ruling him, you think Ireland is that well versed to handle
I can't imagine Miami won't entertain Jennings for a visit. The interesting part will be "how much" Jennings will be offered, assuming an offer is made. If reports are true that Miami thinks $10 million or so is too high a price for Long per year being only 28 years old next season will Miami seriously consider offering Jennings top dollar considering he will be 30 years of age and coming off several injuries?
Why would the cost of Long have anything to do with the cost of Jennings? They play different positions, that are valued differently.
Has to do with the philosophy of building the roster. Ireland has espoused his belief the way to build a team is through the draft. I can't see Miami offering top dollar to a 30 year old coming off injuries for a player at any position. You do?
But we drafted Long? I've no idea if he will sign GJ or not. I just don't understand how what they will or won't give Long has anything to do with GJ other than cap reasons. Acting as if not paying Long is indicative of not paying GJ makes less than 0 sense. Hell, its not even guaranteed Long is walking yet.
Yeah, Aponte wanted Tannehill to have the "offset language" applied to his contract. Wasn't he one of, if not the only, top 10 pick who had that included? There might have been one other, I can't remember. However, I don't think the "offset language" applies to free agents. If it does, then I'm unaware of it. So, in the case of signing Greg Jennings, or any other free agent, I think it's more up to Ireland to "make the sale" as opposed to Dawn Aponte including certain language in a contract. Either way, both Aponte, and especially Ireland, have bad PR on their track records.
Jake Grove, Justin Smiley. Its not preferable, but Jennings is the type of player that the team would make an exception for.
That's not intended then. My post was intended to imply that the hold-up with Ryan Tannehill's contract was that Dawn Aponte (who had a ton of experience in the NFL League Office prior to Cleveland and Miami) wanted the "offset language" included in Tannehill's contract. I'm pretty sure "offset language" only applies to rookie contracts; so I don't see how her part of negotiating Greg Jennings potential contract would hold up him signing with Miami. If I recall, that "offset language" was sort of a wink-nod thing the NFL wanted instituted coming in with the new CBA. Given Aponte's background, she tried to include it as a favor to the league office. I thought that was the story around Tannehill's contract.
If you don't understand or are able to make a connection how a philosophy of not offering top dollar for players getting older coming off injuries regardless of position applies to both Long and Jennings...okay. I didn't make any declarations what Miami will or will not do, I used terminology like "interesting," and "assuming" and "if."
That post was in response to this: I read that to mean Ireland would want Jennings, but somehow Aponte would be be the reason we don't sign him. Seems silly to me. Thats all. All you Ireland lovers can call all of the dogs, I wasn't bashing him. You know, it's kinda funny. Ireland lovers always say they are sick of the Ireland bashers, but alot of times it's you guys who try to start a sh*t flinging incident regarding Ireland. It's happened in 2 threads already today. Not every post I make is with the intent to bash Ireland, FYI. In fact, I've already stated I'm gonna try to stop complaining about Ireland until after I see how the offseason unfolds.
#1. You are basing your stance on Ireland saying you build through the draft, which is not all the same thing as not paying older players coming off injuries. #2. You don't know what they're offering Long or where they are in the negations. Because of that, you can't possibly know what Long's situation implies, because you don't know **** abotu Long's status. #3. You have no idea what GJ wants contract-wise. So basically we are left with you arguing with me, even though you don't know what's going on with Long, GJ, Ireland or Philbin or any of the various negation processes. It is silly.
