So it is the ever reliable 'they' who said it?

Why would Denver give him a choice and not simply take the best offer compensation wise?

To be fair to Hodge, he's always been consistent in regards to Tim Tebow and his belief that he isn't a NFL caliber Qb, even when Denver was winning games he was very critical of Tebow. You know he is an ex player and does talk to a lot of players and coaches, I wouldn't just dismiss what he says as untrue, he might really know somethings about Tebow.....

I do think its kind of weird that people will defend Tebow to a dying breath when they really don't know who he is or what he does, I can honestly say I don't know anything about Tebow other than the person he is in the media and on TV, which as anyone that lives in reality can say is very possibly not the real person. For all I know he's the greatest most genuine human being on the earth but I don't know the guy so really I don't care if Hodge hates him or not. I find the over the top defenders just as silly as the over the top haters, none of them know the guy.

Did you read the title of this thread? This has little to do with his play at QB - which is terrible - but Hoge attacking his character

I know what you mean! For instance I remember you defending a certain non-athlete a bunch of years back with your dying over the top breath. How about that?

You can try to forget your history, but you can't run away from it.

Who's trying to run away from anything? I just think the idea that any of you know Tebow is absurd. Defending him to the dying breath seems silly to me just because he's religious, the world is full of religious people who are selfish and greedy just as much as its full of good religious people, it doesn't reflect the content of your character. Neither does being good at football as we have all seen over the years. And again, you don't know more than Hodge about Tebow so he's entitled to his opinion as well.

Who here says they know him? And why do you have such an issue with people defending him from a pompous jerk off?

And I suggest you go to my post at #48 where I show how much of a fraud and phoney Hoge is, but keep defending him, which I have to say is ironic considering how pissy you're getting over those defending Tebow, but I guess you must personally know Hoge.

I'm not defending Hoge or attacking anyone that feels compelled to defend Tebow, I think the its just ironic how mad and irate people get defending Tebow, I mean he's a marginal football player with very little to offer a team. Who cares, hes nothing special in the NFL. Yet people feel compelled to attack anyone saying anything negative about him, its silly. What a waste of time, the guy isn't even going to be in the NFL in a year or two.

Tebow stands for an ideology. That's why he's so staunchly defended. It's also why he's hated. His performance is a small part of that.

    Well thats not a shock.

The funny thing is the Tebow supporters will never call him a bust or a failure, even though that is exactly what he is.
They'll say something along the lines of "He was never used to his full potential"

Which is an argument you can make for every failed draft prospect.

Talk about a made up argument.

I'm a Seminole. Alum and fan. I should hate Tebow. But I respect the guy. You're clearly pushing an agenda when you say things like this, or use any type of absolute when describing a discussion. I don't read this thread and see people defending Tebow because of his on the field play. I see people seeing a guy attack Tim Tebow out of some weird "too good to be true so Im going to expose it" persona that to me, simply does not make sense.

You're using a strawman argument before a discussion even begins! Ad hominem attacks on people that haven't even entered the argument yet

Tim Tebow, for all his flaws as a football player, does a lot of good in the community. What does he do for publicity, exactly? He shows off kids that love him to death because he makes them feel like rockstars.

What sold me on Tim Tebow was after the Denver Pittsburgh playoff game, he was being interviewed right after the game winning throw. THE VERY FIRST THING he did was say how happy he was to share this moment with a great little girl, some girl who was 14 and dying of cancer (IIRC) and he kept talking about how running over to her, seeing her smile and hug him so tight, made him realize just how blessed he is.

Yes, he threw in the words Jesus Christ, lord and savior, etc... and to be honest, that stuff makes me slightly uncomfortable, but the sincerity was there. He's a good guy trying to do his very west in this cynical world and if anything, Tebow helps us expose people that have nothing but venom to spew. People so jaded that it's simply impossible for them to realize that yes, there are guys out there in this world that are as genuine as Tebow.

There are a few posters in this thread that threw up some serious red flags, but it's not my place to point them out directly. That's a journey they have to take on their own. Unsurprisingly, they are typically in their early 20s. Who woulda thought :)

Also, to the guy pointing out that Tebow does commercials and is a publicity hound... do you know what commercials he does? Everything he does is what he views as wholesome and good enough for his fans to watch. Little kids. Do you know what he does with the proceeds of these advertisements? He himself doesn't get paid, his foundation is the one who receive the funding.

And his foundation does a ****load of actual good. Not just spreading crap like religion, but taking sick kids on vacations, feeding hungry families, and giving living assistance to those who need it.

I have an anecdotal story about Tebow that certainly wouldn't change anybodies minds but I had the opportunity to meet him, and let me say, after spending some time with various athletes (I'm close friends with an NFL veteran who has started on multiple teams) I can tell you, he's the furthest thing from ego as you can get. The guy remembered a conversation we had over a year ago and wished me well with my endeavor. Tim Tebow, huge sports star at the time, remembered who I was and what we had talked about, and thought enough to seek me out and say hello, and wish me well on my goals. That's good people skills, the type you can't fake.

What really ticks me off about this whole situation is Rex Ryan for his decision.

Look, I get it. Tebow's not exactly the best quarterback in the NFL. Putting my respect for him as a man and for what he did on the college level aside, I think he was WAAAAAY over-drafted.

With that said, Rex Ryan made him the second string quarterback. When Tebow was made the second string quarterback, he, like any and every other second string quarterback, expects to be the one starting when the usual starting QB goes down. I'm sorry, but Rex starting McElroy over Tebow was nothing short of flipping Tebow the bird.

So, no, I don't disagree with Tebow for being upset. Not one bit.

In all fairness, ex Jets GM Tannenbaum took full responsibility for Tebow. And it's likely Rex used him as the number 2 QB just like we used Pat White as the #2 QB despite the fact he was really #3 behind Penny and Henne.

I think he's a ****ty qb who is way overrated. Having said that, as a person, I can't really hate the guy. If anything he should be blown up way more then the **** ups that are in the league.

  18. I agree, Tebow is listed as #2 on gamedas so that he can be played in games and still allow your #1 QB back into the game afterward. If he was listed as #3 and entered the game then he would have to stay in the game until the end.

He was made a poster boy for evangelism. That's quite a load to put on the guy. People need to figure out that his living a Christian life and his having success as an NFL quarterback have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

While agree with your statement overall, I do want to point out that he wasn't "made out" to be a poster boy for evangelism, he purposely cultivated that persona.
