According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins "would be fine" leaning on 2012 fourth-round pick Lamar Miller as their lead runner in 2013.

The Dolphins haven't ruled out re-signing Reggie Bush, but they'd only entertain it if his asking price dropped dramatically. The Herald's Barry Jackson suspects the Fins might make a "cheap addition" to battle Daniel Thomas for the backup role. Jonas Gray, a power back out of Notre Dame who spent 2012 on PUP, is another interesting prospect, potentially capable of upgrading on Thomas as a short-yardage specialist. Miller's fantasy stock is looking up for 2013.

Could be a ploy, to get Reggie Bush at a cheaper price. Or they could be ready to run with Lamar Miller fulltime?

Thankfully they're not thinking of using Daniel Thomas in that capacity.

I believe it's the right call...been really looking back into millers career a lot, man was he regarded coming out of high school,he really has a size/ speed ratio that could be special if his vision and feet get connected like I know they can..I think being not used to the speed at this level, that vision and feet harmony was a bit out of sync, I'm hoping when he stops thinking so much, that beautiful harmony he has will take over..

He has an uncanny ability to sift thru traffic and change slight directions without losing speed, it's really cool...we just didn't get to see it this year but I know it's there..

I think we really missed some traditional, downhill, aggressive traits in Reggie last year..it's disappointing, but it's reality.

I think this is the correct call, but I still want them to bring in another back to split with Miller. Have Thomas compete with Gray for the 3rd spot.

I think they'd still like to have Bush back at the right price, but they should be fine with giving the starter's carries to Miller. He has the ability to be a fantastic back in the NFL. Especially in his role in this offense.

I can't imagine they don't supplement Lamar Miller with someone. Ireland is very much a two-back guy, they've got to find someone who can do the stuff Miller can't(power and pass blocking)

Starting a 2nd year back is rebuilding? Not sure about that one. Backs can be found in lots of ways and come in and produce. Seems like an asset management move to me. Why spend a good chunk of change on a guy nearing the downside of his career at a replacable position when you have alternatives that you like?

I know people won't want to hear this, but I think that player's name is Daniel Thomas. I don't see them giving up on him just yet. They seem to like him.

Yep, who is he replacing? Has he shown he can stay healthy, or produce when dinged?

Nope, which creates a hole, losing your leading rusher and replacing him with a ??? is exactly this.

Same problem, he was not exactly a 4 yr guy at ND.

Could buy into Thigpen being insurance moreso than Gray simply b/c he has shown he can contribute at least in the CFL.

Are we talking about Lamar Miller? He showed he could produce when dinged in college when he played the second half of his last year at Miami with an injured shoulder. The coaching staff sees him every day. If they feel confident he can be the guy that's not much of a question mark. You make it seem like Bush is an All-Pro. He didn't even crack 1000 yards this year. Letting a guy with that level of production walk because you don't think he deserves the money he wants doesn't mean you are rebuilding.

I'll put this simply, when you subtract a productive playmaking starter, you replace them with a question mark

One can think, feel, believe, all anyone cares to after watching this league for a long time I know this song really well.

Maybe Miller can do the job, maybe he can't, either way that is one more question mark heading into 2013.

Every team every offseason is forced to create a hole losing a starter to FA and replacing them with a young player that hasn't proved much. Yet every team isn't rebuilding. Further more, if you put a list together of every starting position.. RB would be near the bottom in terms of it signaling "rebuilding" due to replacing the incumbent with a young player. It's one of the easiest to plug and play...

Further more on top of that... Bush has only had one 1,000 yard season in his career, and he barely cracked it. We aren't talking about a rare type of player who's production is hard to find.

I like Miller. Daniel Thomas? Please cut him and bring in another RB. He will probably stay around but he has zero value. Zero. They could find any number of RB's (draft or free agency) who could do what he does. I think Gray would be a good addition but they also need another RB or two and I'd like to see someone besides Thomas on the team.

I think he was a good stone to turn over but I'm not sure he is someone you can hang a hat on, one man fan club aside.

I think they keep him on the roster but I can't imagine he's splitting carries with Miller, more along the lines he's given a chance to turn it around and is a pass protection guy.

Hmm, with Daniel Thomas in tow, now dolfans are confident that Ireland got the Miller pick right?

If Rb is the easiest role to fill, the track record on that is not looking so good.

It creates one more question mark going into the OFF-season. If we spend the money that we would've spent on Reggie on a free-agent wide receiver like Jennings, Bowe, or Wallace... that would solve a "question mark". We can't sign all of our free agents as well as solve additional question marks via FA. It's just not possible. So what choice do you have?

Also, calling Reggie "productive" is stretching it a little. He has only cracked 1,000 yards once in his career... and just barely squeaked by it. He has neverr finished in the top 10 in rushing... making his production hardly rare and not hard to find someone who can replace that level of production.

Nearly had it this year as well.

And once again, and you of all people should know this by now, there are -0- guarantees in FA..none..as for 'yds rushing" old thinking FN, Td's and YPA are far more important, with new style offenses a Rb basically works off of the pass, not the way we had done it with passing to set up the run.

Racking up yds is arguably not as efficient as throwing the ball, it means you may not be throwing the ball enough.

Also, Reggie wasn't in the top 10 this year in YPA or TDs either for RBs with at least as many carries as Bush did (and if you include RBs with less workload than Reggie... it pushes him even further down the list)... so there's that.

Daniel Thomas getting quite a bit of hate. Certainly an injury prone Mofo but not fit to be a backup now?

He has made some plays for us. I wouldnt say he's useless.

I like the idea of miller and Thomas personally.

He has his fair share of issues with the injuries, fumble problems and lack of vision.

I think he has one more chance to turn it around.

The problem with Thomas is - he is not powerful. He doesn't have vision. And, he's not a versatile guy who can make plays. He's just a body, imo.

I'd rather have a RB who can really hammer the line or a guy who can catch a lot of passes. Frankly, it amazes me how GB, and to a lesser degree the Pats, are able to consistently land guys who are late round picks or free agents and turn them into solid players. I think we can do that if we get the right kind of player.

I also don't see Thomas as a fit in this offense (GB style).

I'm in the same boat. He has more to prove. However, I thought he really made strides this year in the amount of power he ran with this season. I thought he ran hard in the 2nd half if the season, and his decisiveness was a pleasent welcome at times from Reggie's dancing.

I have to disagree with the power statement, especially in the 2nd half of the season. He has plenty of question marks (fumbles, injuries, etc)... but I liked how he ran the 2nd half of last year.

He actually does have vision but he seems to have some infatuation with being a power back which he isnt. Hes a cutback runner whose trying too hard to be a bulldozer. If you watch his tape in college thats exactly how he ran.

He did improve his power running, evidenced by his increase in Yards after contact, but he's still not a power runner, IMO. I think he has to play to his strengths, which is a great burst and quickness for a player of his size. I think if he wants to survive, his vision needs to improve. I'm not worried about the fumbles because that's an area I think can improve with better technique.

I remember reading his scouting reports coming out of college, and one of his strengths was vision. Hell, I even remember reading comparisons to Arian Foster. But, I haven't seen good vision with him in the NFL.
